Introduction.

Hi!
I used to main Akali back in late season two/early season three. I still play her from time to time, though I feel like there are champions that can do what she can but even better. Anywho, Akali is a bursty-snowball reliant assassin. She's a high risk - high reward champion like Fiora or LeBlanc. If she fails to get fed or well farmed, she'll bring almost nothing to the team. Akali can be built many ways, but this is the way I like to build her.
I'm not too sure what else to say here, but hopefully this guide can help you out somewhat
Hope you like!

Itemization.

If you're getting focused by the enemy team, I would recommened building towards this instead of Deathfire Grasp.

A good item for sticking to targets. Triggers on just about all of your abilities, if not all. Replace Deathfire Grasp if needed.

A good defensive item. If you can't afford sitting through death timers, and you are a "must" for your team, then pick this up over Deathfire Grasp.

Spells

A must. Good for escaping, and chasing if your Shadow Dance is on cooldown.

Great for securing kills, and can also be used as poke. Best for most mid/top laners.

Akali is a decent roamer. If you think it's going to be tought, consider taking TP.

Skills

Twin Disciplines: Akali's auto attacks deal 6% (+ 1% per 6 AP) bonus magic damage while Akali gains 6% (+ 1% per 6 bonus AD) spell vamp.

Mark of the Assassin: Akali throws her kama at a target enemy, dealing magic damage and marking the target for 6 seconds.
Tips
  • Attacking a marked enemy will refund a set amount on energy.
  • Use this as poke during laning phase.

Twilight Shroud: Akali throws down a cover of smoke. While within the cloud, Akali is stealthed and gains bonus armor and magic resistance. Enemies inside the smoke are slowed.

Tips
  • Using this instead of facechecking a bush can be lifesaving.
  • Flashing while in shroud is a good way to escape.
  • Using shroud mitigates damage.

Crescent Slash: Akali flourishes her kamas, dealing physical damage and triggering any Mark of the Assassin on nearby enemies.
Tips
  • Only source of waveclear.

Shadow Dance: Akali uses an Essence of Shadow, dashing to and dealing magic damage to a target enemy. Akali gains an Essence of Shadow periodically, affected by cooldown reduction, up to a maximum of 3. Additionally, gaining a kill or assist will restore an Essence of Shadow.

Tips
  • Jumping to enemy minions can be used as an escape.
  • Good for Chasing.
  • You can only have three stacks of Essence of Shadow.

Matchups

Ahri
Easy.
If you can manage to dodge her Charm, you should easily win the matchup. As any lane, you should play passive until you hit level six, take the time to back and then begin to fight her normally.

Anivia
Medium.
Used to think I could win this matchup but it's actually pretty difficult. She has hard CC with Flash Frost and can spam her Glacial Storm when you go into your Twilight Shroud. Once she gets her Rod of Ages completed, she's pretty hard to burst down. Ask for jungle help, and roam.

Annie
Hard.
ff@20

Brand
Medium.
You'll probably loose this matchup pre6. Brand has annoying poke, so just suck it and farm. Ask for ganks if you need them early. Once you hit six, back and buy. Do as normal.

Cassiopeia
Hard
I hate this lane. When in your Twilight Shroud, she can spam Noxious Blast and Miasma on top of you. Her Petrifying Gaze is more than enough to shut you down. Ask for jungle help.

Cho'Gath
Hard
no.

Diana
Medium.
A skill-based matchup. She'll probably beat you pre6 but you should win later on. Dodge her Crescent Strike so she can't follow up with Lunar Rush. Overall, it's an easy lane. If you have trouble, just roam.

Fizz
Easy.
SO EZ. Remember to use Twilight Shroud when he casts Chum the Waters and you'll be fine. He can't really poke you out of lane, and you can out-trade him at level two.

Gragas
Medium.
Dodge barrels, roam and ask for ganks.

Karthus
Easy.
His poke pre6 is pretty annoying, so just farm until you get your Shadow Dance. Should be an easy lane.

Kassadin
Medium.
This lane is really upsetting for you. I'm pretty sure Akali can outdamage Kassadin early but his Null Sphere is really annoying. If you try to duel him post-six, he can just silence you and Riftwalk away.

Katarina
Medium.
Two of the easiest champions in the game. Skill matchup. You have no CC to stop her Death Lotus but she has no CC to stop you. You should win, but like I said -- It's a skill match up.

LeBlanc
Hard.
She can silence you with sigil of silence and you can't use your Twilight Shroud. She can burst you before you can even react. If I'm correct, you'll outscale but the lane is very annoying overall.

Lissandra
Hard.
oh god.

Lux
Easy.
I never have much trouble with this lane, actually. Just ignore her poke pre6. If you can ult over her Light Binding and Lucent Singularity, you should be fine.

Morgana
Medium.
This is actually a really annoying lane. If you can dodge her Dark Binding and get out of her Soul Shackles, you should be able to burst her. Her Black Shield gets annoying, but you should be able to get past it. This is just my experience with the lane.

Nidalee
Medium.
Just dodge her Javelin Toss and you should win.

Orianna
Medium.
Favors you. If you can time it right and Shadow Dance over her Command: Shockwave, you should be fine.

Swain
Hard.
zzz

Syndra
Hard
Annoying lane. Her poke pre6 is annoying. She has aoe stun with Scatter the Weak + Dark Sphere. She can instagib you at level six, I would just roam and ask for jungle help. Syndra is a really easy target to gank, especially if she blew her flash.

Yasuo
Easy.
Easy matchup. Poke him with Mark of the Assassin pre6. At level six, back and then all in him. He can only Wind Wall your Mark of the Assassin.

Zed
Medium.
More of a skill matchup. If you find yourself losing, just ask for jungle help and roam.

Ziggs
Medium.
Start Boots and 4x Health Potion. His poke is annoying, but you should win that matchup post6.

Zyra
Hard.
I've had really bad experiences with this lane. You just get poked out, and I just hate everything about it. Just roam and ask for jungle help. Zyra is an easy target to camp.

Notes

2/14/14 = The stats are messed up for some reason, and I'm not sure how to fix. This build gives around 600-700 ability power, not 400.
