This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Yasuo is not very difficult at all. You out damage him early on and are tankier then him late game. Always snowball him and he is out of the game. Cutglass will make his passive useless. Just becarful a little more once he gets phantom dancer. Get a randuins and this guy will never stand a chance no matter how many fancy tricks he does. Safe your q after he is done dashing around. Ones you knock him up, hit your e so he has nothing to block with wind wall.
Zed
Squishy like yasuo. You out trade him all the time. When you get your 3 abilities in lane, engage with E. Blood Price should get him scared. After using his shadow to dash away immediatly use dark flight to close the distance. He will have to use flash or die trying to fight back.
Akali
Cant really kill once u get malmortious and spirit visage. Get a pink ward for this one and get a health advantage.
Gangplank
His poke packs a punch but you still beat him in trades. Force him away from farm if you can. If he is ready to use barrels to hurt you try to attack them unexpectingly. Then right after he tries to trigger the barrel with the barrel you last hitted engage fast. He may try to heal with ouranged but right after that you can slow him with E. At level 6 if he uses his ult as global presense then go whole hog and kill him fast.
Diana
Diana always tries to force early trades. Except aatrox wins these trades against her. She is squishy. Get your blood well filled and if she starts the fight you should beat her. Slow her with e if she uses her shield. Your blood price breaks her shield fast and she basically has a weaker 3 hit passive then you at the start of the game. She also doesnt have sustain. You can even start the fight and chunk her health before she can have time to react and it will be too late for her to trade against me with her shield.
Darius
Darius is actually even when we trade. But he is very immobile so most of the time you will be able to hit your E blades of torment on him. This is a situation i would max my E spell first.
Vladimir
He is a mage version of you though u still have a slight advantage. Both of you have high sustain, but vlad is capable of poking you away from cs. It isnt enough still. Get that cs but still pay attention to when his crimson rush is up. When you see his crimson bar on cd (when the bar is refilling) go in for cs. A normal q poke from him doesnt hurt too much. When engaging on vlad try to engage when he is at full health to get him to hurt himself when he uses pool. Or you can engage just like i mentioned against zed. If he doesnt pool he might use e. If he does this walk straight towards him for a split second and clikc back away so it looks like u instantly walked away. It will mostly put you out of range of the ability and he wont turn around a second after you did. What you can also do is just keep hitting him even if he is channeling his E spell. Only do this when his crimson bar is at 0. he may q you a few times. Just whatever you do, as long as you are able to stay on top of him, you should win this easily.
Irelia
Both of you have healing and extremely high burst against each other. One problem is that you have health costs while she doesnt. Play safe though still try to trade with her. Keep up on cs. You have a slightly better early game, but that doesnt last long. Mid game try not to fight her as she will usually out trade you mid game with sheen into triforce. Late game you will be able to stand your ground and beat her toe to toe . Reminder: Always have full blood when engaging late game fights.
Riven
Riven normally will be able to be you and zone you from healing. If you recall, health advantage is important. Health advantage is the most important thing against riven compared to other champs. If you manage to snowball, she will be too squishy for you to handle. However if she ult try not to fight her. If she uses it jump away or wait for her to use her third q then jump. Make sure not to get your jump canceled against riven. Black clever is the safest option because it has cdr and enough damage to chunk rivens health. Make sure not to use blood price when she uses her shield. Play this smart and this shouldnt be a problem.
Kled
The thing with this match up is that overall he has more health then you most of the time. You chunk skarl hard with blood price and it will send him running for the hills. Engage with Q so you dont have to worry about getting it canceled by his own q bear trap on a rope. readying blood price with graps of the undying and u will have kled on his feed and sloooow. Since his health pool is soooo low when unmounted there is no way he should be able to trade with you since you have your revive up, and enough cc to lock him down. Later on, if he tries to ult you then just jump over the closest wall or area you think kled wont continue charging at. You will avoid that ult at least 99% of the time unless he uses it pointblank.
Xin Zhao
xin zhao is broken lel. He is basically a better version of you other than you have better sustain. Your w also does more damage but it costs you health and his is a crit while also not costing him health. Early on you guys are even. When he gets sheen stay away. Late game it is a bit even only if you get enough armor. Randuins and thornmail is good for this match up. Also this is probably the only match up i use phantom dancer against because i need just enough of these states just to barely beat him.
Illaoi
Stay behind minions. Try dodging her E. If she graps you just walk out of the range. Dodge the tentacles and get free healing. Max W and E at the same time for some poke and for some good burst. Dodge her tentacles. Try walking up to here and hitting her with blood price into blades of torment when grasp of undying is up and walk out. She might use her E W Q combo when u try to do this. If she hits u with e just jump out of range quick to avoid any poke damage on your spirit. When engaging on her dodge her tentacles. Use good movement and pay attention to were the tentacles are. At level 6 bait her ultimate. I would recommend going black clever or frozen mallet and armor to avoid unnecessary burst from her. After baiting her go ham and set up a gank for the jungler. She will be forced to flash or die. Late game just avoid her and jump away if she ults. Never engage her with your q unless it is very early in the game or her ult is on cooldown.
Fiora
Easier then xin zhao, but just as hard late game. If you are tanky enough you can beat her. In lane hit her with blood price. Dont engage with q. Walk up to her and auto her a few times. She might try to block your q or blood price. She can only win in small 2 second trades. What you can do is do ctrl 1 2 3 or 4 while going through your attack animation. This can bait her riposte and waste it. This is your chance to engage with q and hit her with blood price if she dashes away She is like riven. Have a health advantage or face the consequences.
Pantheon
Armor is a mandate or you will get bursted. Do not trade with him. Instead just poke him with E. Like darius maxing E here is the best option. Because his burst his high u need health advantage bad so black clever or frozen mallet is needed. You can really beat him until late game. As long as you dont fall behind then he cant beat you later. Keep up with cs and set up a gank for a your jungler.
Teemo
The devil. He will poke you and if he is good he will throw blind at you if you engage with q. If he gets your passive he will put mushrooms on top of you when you revive. You can max E and poke him until he is low to finish him off. Or waste his blind. You could also engage with blood price proc into e and walk out of range. Just make sure to knock him up or you will have problems.
Ekko
Both ap or tank ekko dont really stand up. Tank ekko doesnt have enough damage if i get malmortious or spirit visage. And ap ekko same reason. I can also burst him quickly with my normal q into blood price into ult and then E. He will get away a lot though especially when his ultimate is up. What you can also do is if he is about to stun you in his W you can knock him up and both of you are cc'd. Just outfarm him and there shouldnt be a problem. If u want to kill him u might want to call the jungler for assistance since your lock down for ganks are some of the best in the game.
Ryze
Like vladimir except he has no sustain. The 6.14 ryze rework made him easier to deal with. He will be doing his E W Q combo a lot so u want be able to finish him off much if he is running to go back to base. Knock him up, but also be behind him a little so when he snares you you can still land E easier to slow him down. At level 6 all in him. He is squishy and his range is low. The only time ryze will be a little annoying is if he is saving his spells to kite back and counter your engage. If he does this just out farm him and set up perfect gank for jungler.
Poppy
She can counter ur jump in many ways with her w and e. Her cc is also enough to prevent you from autoing for a good 3 ish secconds. Just out farm her. Always wait out her shield instead of stepping on it because she might pin you. When the shield wheres off then jump on her and then hit her with blood price, and walk away while slowing her with E. You better get the knock up when you jump on her. Get frozen mallet so when ur jungler comes the only why she can get away is using flash or hitting her ult. Go up to her a few timesand use blood price into e never engage with Q unless it is down. Later game there is no way she can duel you.
Jax
Best counter against aatrox. You actually have a slightly better early game then him. Take advantage of this "slightly better" game and you should be good until he completes his first item which is guinsoos or tri force. Once he starts completing items he will outscale you. Never fight alone against him. I can say however aatrox can effectively peel jax off the adc especially with the help of your support. He is better in little skirmshes then you by far and out damages you. He actually cant dodge the bonus damage from blood price but he will still dodge the normal auto attack. So basically just jump away if he gets on you. Your jump can get you over most walls. He will simply dodge attacks so you cant heal urself and can stun u to stop your auto attacks.
Hello! Welcome to my guide. I am ABcmaSter and i am an aatrox main. I am veteran 7 with him and i have all his skins. Currently right now he doesnt really perform well that much. Either way i just like how much sustain and damage he is capable of having and how hard he can snowball in the right circumstances. I am here to teach you about his strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks for taking your time to take a look at my aatrox guide. Aatrox is such an awesome champion. He could definitely have some support or buffing from riot. But in the right hands, he is a beast.
