Introduction

Wukong The Monkey King
Hello and welcome to my build for Wukong The Monkey King. Wukong is a melee bruiser type champion that excels at 1v1 and assassination. Wukong The Monkey King has a really good mid game, and can carry lategame. With this build you will be doing huge burst and sustain damage, and be REALLY beefy.

Lore and Background

Lore and Background
In the Plague Jungles, Kong ruled as king. He could wield a unique, natural form of magic and he was driven by zealous ambition. The Plague Jungles were the ideal setting for fostering his growth - he thrived on challenges and flourished in adversity. However, when he had surmounted every obstacle and defeated every opponent, he grew restless. Worried that there was nothing left to overcome, he sought counsel with the monkey sage who lived behind the Grand Waterfall. The sage told him a tale of hairless monkeys to the north who, with wits and strength, bent the world to their will. Kong was overjoyed at the prospect of such worthy competition, and he immediately set out to the north, hoping that the sage's story was true.

Traveling north, he crossed the Southern Wastes and then the Great Barrier. Unaware of the League, he arrived outside the Institute of War where he found Master Yi in meditation. Kong was eager to test the strength of these northern warriors, so he challenged Yi to a duel. Intrigued by Kong, Yi decided to humor him. Within moments of his first strike, Kong knew he was no match for Yi. To be the best, he would need a mentor. He asked Yi to take him as a pupil and to show him the wonders of the northern lands. In return, he would honor Yi by becoming the greatest warrior Runeterra had ever seen. Admiring his passion, Yi agreed, but only under the condition that Kong would one day teach the lessons of Wuju to a pupil of his own. In the spirit of this agreement, he renamed Kong ''Wukong'', and gave him a weapon suited to his unusual nature - an enchanted staff that the young Doran had crafted. The weapon was an unrivalled masterpiece. After rigorous training, Wukong joined the League of Legends to fulfill his promise and show the world the true power of Wuju.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a concern with the build read this first.

Question: Why get 1 point in extra gold per level then extra 15% time on buffs.

Answer: The reason I don't put 1 point in extra buff duration is because I'm never in need of blue buff to steal it from my jungler. Also generally Red buff goes to the ranged AD carry.

Question: Why would you get frozen mallet over warmogs when you have trinity.

Answer:
If you didn't know a trinity actually doesn't give you permanent slow on attack, but a Frozen Mallet does. Also Frozen Mallet gives more attack damage, and costs less.

Runes

Runes
For runes I personally love to go for that armour pen all melee bruisers need, and for a bit of defense. This allows the monkey king to dish out huge amounts of damage with his Q because it is basically an auto attack. The blue and yellows make him really tough for other champions to kill.

Quintessences: I go for Armour Pen.

Reds: I go for Armour Pen.

Yellows:
I go for Flat Armour.

Blues: I go for Flat Magic Resist.

Masteries

Masteries
I have tried going the defense, utility and offense tree, but in the end the offense tree is always the best for me. I go for 21/0/9 to get that experience and mana regen boost. The offense part of the mastery tree gives a much needed damage boost early game, when farming and getting kills matters.

Havoc: The best mastery to get is Havoc for that extra 4% damage boost.

Sunder: Along with Sunder Wukong will hit like a truck.

Awareness:
Lastly you need Awareness to get more experience which in-turn gets you more damage from higher level abilities.

Greed:
I prefer to get greed because I never steal buffs from my jungler.

Utility: This is ok to get your last mastery point in, if you want buffs. Not recommended.

Items

Items

Trinity Force: Wukong does a ton of burst damage, but is very susceptible to CC. So to negate that he needs some movement speed. He also needs some burst and hp. So the best choice to get all of that in 1 package is to buy a trinity.

Mercury Treads: Like any good bruiser Kong needs mercury treads for the boots. It really helps in team fights and escaping because of that 35% tenacity.

Atmas Impaler:
Next for Wukong I have tried many items but atmas impaler makes his Q and E combo hit even harder.

Frozen Mallet:
Next I personally go for a Frozen mallet, because it gives me 24 attack damage and a lot of hp, which syngerizes well with your atmas.

Youmuus+Banshees: After that You need some more crit and damage, and some magic resist. So to finish I chose a Youmuus and a banshee, Youmuus makes escaping/chasing really easy. Although you can get whatever is needed for the game.

Warmogs: This item is also a good sustitute for Frozen mallet, but you don't need the health with your banshees and trinity. Also Frozen mallet gives more AD and a permaslow on attack.

Skill Choice

Skills
Wukong has a really good skill kit, 1 for big burst, another for an escape or a gank, another for a dash, and an ultimate that is great for ganks or team fights.

Stone Skin: Wukongs Passive is Stone-Skin which gives him really good defense in the early and mid-late stages of the game.

Nimbus Strike:
I like to max out his E which is nimbus strike first, because it not only helps the laning phase immensely but it makes harassing your enemy much more effective.

Crushing Blow: Next I like to max his Q because it is really good to land after an E.

Decoy: Last I max his W because since the stealth duration doesn't increase and your going AD it doesn't really matter as much.

Cyclone: Obviously you want to level your ultimate as soon as possible because it does a good initial burst and a really good knock up.

Summoner Spells

Summoner Spells
For Summoner spells I have tried a combination for Flash, Ghost, Ignite, Exhaust, and many more but I find Flash Ignite makes getting kills really easy!

Ghost, Ignite - good for early kills, but weak too escaping.

Flash, Ignite- good for early kills, and really good at escaping and juking.

Flash/Ghost/Exhaust- Good for solo or mid lane, easy to 1v1 other champions and for chasing.

Cleanse
- Good to negate that powerful CC which Kong is weak against.

Teleport
- If your solo teleport is very good to sustain in lane and farm for that trinity.

Rally- Don't take rally.

Clarity
- Kong is meant to be getting kills and harassing. Clarity can work on him, but I don't recommend it.

How to play/ Summary / Tricks

Early Game
Wukong's early game will generally revolve around a duo or solo lane. His jungling is not that good, but he is a good ganker imo. In the duo lane you want to constantly farm minions with you Nimbus strike or your E.
Also you want to get A LOT of health pots throughout the early-mid stages of the game because it keeps you in lane longer and costs very little.

Harass
In the early stages of the game Wukong has an amazing harass after he hits level 3. Basically his combo is to Nimbus strike onto the more squishy player, then auto attack once and pop your Q crushing blow to do even more damage. If you can get a third hit off go for it, but generally you can't so pop your W Decoy, and run into brush or back to your allie/turret. Another good technique is if your at bot/top and your in the Bush closest to your turret, you can decoy and run to the other without them seeing. I've gotten tons of free kills with this.

Ganking
Ganking with Wukong is very easy because of his skill set. You want to hide in a bush and when your opponent is overextending, you want to cloak (if not needed save it for later) then Nimbus strike onto them, auto attack, Q and Pop your Ultimate. While this is on them you can ignite and if there about to run away Hit R again and cancel it. Repeat the beggining combo by Nimbus, Auto attack, Q and they should die very easily.

Mid to Late Game
Wukongs mid game is really outstanding if you can land combos and get kills. at this stage you should be backdooring turrets with your Q and winning team fights with your Ultimate. In team fights you want to either flash or Nimbus onto a squishy and Ultimate everyone. Then decoy to the back of there team. They should be too overwhelmed to notice that your killing all there squishies and cleaning up the rest.

Late Game
In late game you want to win team fights and backdoor. Once your build is maxed or close you should easily be able to 1v1 anyone on there team and win every team fight.

Tricks to Playing Wukong

Wukong can use his decoy to Juke into bushes, and trick enemies. If your out of range for your E nimbus, you can cloak run up and then nimbus. This trick gets me tons of easy kills on even good players! A cool trick is when your running away from an enemy, you can run into a bush, then dash outward at the enemy and if there not paying attention this will give you the time you need to get your decoy off cooldown!

Video Tutorials

Wukong's Basic Combo
This first video tutorial is an example of Wukong's basic combo attack which is nimbus strike, AA (autoattack), crushing blow, then decoy out.
Wukong's Advanced Gunchico Style Combo
This next video shows how to execute Wukongs advanced combo with his ultimate and ignite, then repeat the first step. Obviously you don't always have a malz ult against an ulted zilean but still you get the idea.
