Introduction

Hello all readers, i'm CriticalShokku, a LAN Wukong and Rumble main. I prefer top lane as my main role, Wukong being my second favorite champ of all time. He has a game changing ultimate, and great damage. He's amazing to play, and i hope that you will enjoy this guy as much as i do after reading this!

Summary

If you enjoy playing divers, teamfighters and assassins all alike then Wukong is the champion for you. He's easy to play, not too hard to master, and you will have some good laughs while playing him! I really hope you enjoy playing Wukong after reading this guide and learning my ways of playing this awesome champion! Wukong is incredible in the right hands, and remember.. Sometimes it's best to be fast and dumb, rather than slow and smart.

The Good, and The Bad.

Pros

+ Amazing late game
+ Synergizes incredibly with a lot of items, and is very flexible in terms of build
+ Amazing outplay potential *cough* Warrior Trickster *cough*
+ Tons of burst and sustained damage with Cyclone
+ Attack speed steroid
+ Armor reduction

Wukong is an amazing solo queue carry. He doesn't need exactly a team comp for him to carry,
he just kind of does his thing magically if the player is good enough. A well done Cyclone in a teamfight can win the match very easily. Also baiting abilities with your Warrior Trickster will effectively they're duel potential against you, giving you the upper hand if you know how to make some outplays. Plus Warrior Trickster and even Cyclone can save you from ganks and sticky situations.
Cons

- Bad early game against certain matchups
- Easy to play, hard to master
- Warrior Trickster does not scale with AD
- No real escape without Warrior Trickster
- Really useless if very behind
- Cyclone at level 6 is very underwhelming

Wukong is a good champion, but like all other champions he does have his set of weaknesses.
First, he's very prone to being ganked once he's wasted his Warrior Trickster since it is his only real escape. Second, his level 6 is not too strong compared to other champions, since the level 6 Cyclone is VERY underwhelming in terms of damage. It leads to easy ganks though.
He's also very easy to play, but it can take a while mastering him and his Warrior Trickster outplay potential. But, all in all, he's a great champion. Worth learning!

Abilities

Code:
PASSIVE
ABILITY
Stone Skin (Passive): Natural extra armor adds to the runes and base armor, giving you a small bit of tankiness from your passive. This is very useful when all 5 enemy champions are nearby, because they give you approximately a Chain Vest with this passive! All in all, great passive.
Spoiler: Click to view

Q
Crushing Blow (Q): Crushing Blow is a G O O D ability!
Most Wukong players ignore this ability and simply use it as an autoattack reset, but the truth is 30% armor reduction combined Cleaver is quite a bit. This, as i've said, resets your autoattack timer, effectively adding more DPS for you. Remember this also gives you extra range, so you can harass melee laners from a safe distance and even break Gangplank barrels without risking yourself!
Spoiler: Click to view

W
Decoy (W): Oh lord, the great decoy.
I absolutely love this ability, and this is what defines good Wukong players from bad ones.
This is so great! From juking, to blocking skillshots, to outplaying, and making your enemy laner want to die, Decoy has MANY MANY uses. The greatest Wukong ability in his kit.
Spoiler: Click to view

E
Nimbus Strike (E): The escape, the engage, the jukes. I don't know what i love about this ability, the damage, the escape/engage potential, the juking, going over walls with it in the jungle, the AS steroid, there's a lot to this ability. Remember it grants an AS steroid, which is the best for clearing the jungle since we're gonna prefer the Machete start as of right now.
Spoiler: Click to view

R
Cyclone (R):
Well, we're finally here, Wukong's ultimate! The gamechanging, teamfight winning, facemelting Cyclone! This ability is like a Garen's E on steroids. It does not crit however, but that won't matter because THE DAMAGE OUTPUT THIS CAN HAVE IS SO SO SO HUGE. I think it's one of the most damaging abilities in the game. It also works as an escape if necessary, since it knocks up and gives MS.

#1. Cyclone
6 / 11 / 16

#2. Nimbus Strike
1 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 9

#3. Crushing Blow
2 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 13

#4. Warrior Trickster
3 / 14 / 15 / 17 / 18
> > >

We want to max Nimbus Strike because it is our best damage ability and gives us a AS steroid for trading. Then Crushing Blow as the AA reset and armor reduction are fantastic. We level up Warrior Trickster last since the stealth time and decoy duration does not have a change, and it is a one point wonder.

Runes

quints

marks
  • Greater Mark of Lethality: The Lethality these runes bring is useful for Wukong, since he loves lethality and bursting people. These are also armor pen, but not too great and not as reliable as armor pen is.

glyphs
  • Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: Magic resist is very good for those AP matchups or people like Gnar it also helps with all the bursty AP mages on mid. Paired with your Stone Skin this will add to your already fair amount of resistances, making laning a lot easier.

seals

Alright, so, mostly we take Lethality reds, because you know. Lethality is B E S T right now, also it adds a ton to the damage Duskblade could possibly bring you. It also works as armor pen. albeit weaker at some points of the game. You could change those for some AD reds, or even Lifesteal, but that's one's personal choice, and i think it should stay Lethality reds for me. Yellows and blues don't change on any build, because i think it is optimal the way it is right there. But, you can get MS or even CDR. I don't think it's a bad idea honestly, but for my personal preference it stays like that for me, since we won't be building really tanky.
Quints do change varying on the build, but it can be AD or Lethality, even Lifesteal if you really want that. You can experiment, and mix and match until you feel comfortable with your runes! It's really personal choice! :D

// Nice last hitting, adds damage to your spells, your first AA does extra damage, Battle Trance for your ult. Nice setup, overall.

Q: What do i take depending on my build?
// Well, for regular Wu, we take Thunderlord's Decree. Wukong is all about bursting people, and 100-0'ing everybody with some Warrior Trickster outplays. Warrior Trickster proccing feels so great. Okay, so, for DPS Wu, we take Fervor because obviously our main damage will be our Autoattacks. For tank Wu, Grasp, our Q will proc it very easily and can harass melee top laners by having more range than them, while Colossus will allow you to dive on the enemy backline with a big shield. Overall, some nice setups are the ones i put in this guide. You can change Sorcery for Fury, but i don't think it's worth losing on the 3% extra dmg on your Cyclone and Nimbus Strike.

Summoner Spells

Always take. No questions, dude! The outplays and mind games you can do with this and your clone will ALWAYS be magnificent. Escapes, engages, FLASH IS EVERYTHING! HAIL FLASH!

Take if you need to get an early lane lead, or if you're not playing against Heimerdinger, simple as that. Early kills are so gud. Take if agressive top or midlane. Level 1 cheese with this is so great. E > AA as needed, then ignite will probably get a easy first blood or leave them low HP.

My other personal favorite. This helps splitpushing, or going bot lane for picking up some free kills with Cyclone take if you're starting with Wu, or if you are the type to roam other lanes with this frequently. Also, take against Heimerdinger, Nunu & Willump and Yorick.

If you're going B A N A N A S (Jungle) you're gonna have to take this. It's necessary for the jungle item which is your only sustain, besides hunter pot, and for securing Baron and Dragon, plus Herald. Necessary if Jungling.

Not bad if against assassins who can delete you faster than you can delete them. Take against Yasuo, Zed, Riven, Pantheon if you're not comfortable with your Wukong skills yet, later on it's not really that necessary to take this.

This is.. not bad, but not good. You can bait tower dives with clone and this, but that's pretty much it.

Core Items

Top

Three Headed Hydra
We want this most of the time. It gives sustain, burst, damage, a amazing active, it is great for any lane, top, mid or jungle. This will help you against sustain

Youmuu's Masterpiece
I think Riot made this item for good Wukong players that know how to use the clone. The active gives you so much flexibility on what to do with your clone, and can be used during your ultimate. Overall, amazing item. It also helps bursting squishies.

The Obscure Cleaver
The extra MS on your ult, the armor shred, and the HP and damage help a lot on skirmishes or teamfights. This is CORE for any Wukong build, and should ALWAYS be in the build. Unless you're going Tank Kong or something crazy like those other builds.

The Nightstalker
The amazing Duskblade. It is so amazing, dude. You only take this if you're super fed, or if you're good with Wukong, but trust me. It is always worth it, and makes you feel like a legit assassin. Even try to pick it up if you're learning and are fed. It's an amazing item, and your Warrior Trickster does proc it.

Jungling

Warrior's Sabre
One of two options for when jungling. It gives the sustain Wukong needs, and some nice CDR and damage, plus dueling potential. It is a very good item.

Warrior's Blade
Same as Skirmisher's Sabre, but this instead gives more burst and allows you to catch up because Smite can be cast during the ultimate. It is great, just like the other, you can take any of these two anytime.

Mobi's
The reason you will be feared every lane. You will be EVERYWHERE with these boots, Deadman's and Youmuu's. Amazing pick, and is pretty much necessary unless you're vs a CC heavy jungler, in that case you should take Mercs.

Dead Man's Pauldron
Amazing item. Movespeed, slowing autoattack, and it's passive shares name with Wukong's Q. It's obviously made for him. Along with Mobi's and Youmuu's, you have global presence on the map.

Youmuu's Masterpiece
The incredible movespeed active when jungling will help you move from camp to camp faster, and thus gank faster. Also remember my Jungle Build is burst and mobility based, and this item has both of those!

Mid

Three Headed Hydra
Already explained why this is so great on Wu! Mid lane Wukong is so amazing once this item's completed.

Youmuu's Masterpiece
This is part of the holy trinity, and if you don't build it when going midlane just don't go midlane with Wu. It's the best item for him midlane, because his roams are so deadly.

The Nightstalker
Midlane you are more an assassin, instead of a bruiser. Get this everytime, experienced with Wu or not if going midlane. Movement speed for ganks, amazing passive when in FOW for enemy. Clone can check wards too.

The Obscure Cleaver
60% armor shred. That is all, my dear friendo. Also, movespeed on ult. I'm repeating myself,
but it's worth it. Please always buy Cleaver.

Situational Items

Mercury's Scimitar
Gets rid of all that pesky CC that can lock you down. Some nice lifesteal.

Gauntlet of Sterak
My favorite item in the game. Gives you a lot of damage, makes you incredibly hard to duel 1v1, and adds A LOT of damage to your ult and Q. Definitely worth. Once you start using it more and more, you'll grow to like it a lot like i did.

The Maw
Like a Sterak, but you should rush when against Heavy AP or Rumble, sometimes it isn't even necessary to get more MR after this. It's a good survivability item.

Solar Cape
Adds some damage to your ult, and gives nice waveclear and splitpushing power. Personally,
i don't like it much, but it is one of the best items with Wu!

Gameplay

Playing Wu is simple! Just juke, have fun and have some laughs! Remember to apply mind games to the enemy laner hehe. :p
Back to Top

FAQ

Q: How can i dodge the Requiem?

A: Easy, you take a look at the animation, and Warrior Trickster just when it is about to hit.

Q: How can i juke?

A: You walk, press S and stand still. Remember clone lasts a second and half, so yeah. You can clone when they realize it's you and Youmuu's out.

Q: How do i use Youmuu's properly?

A: It does have many uses. To engage you W > Youmuu's > E.
For disengage, you press S. Once they realize it's not a clone, you W > Youmuu's > E to a minion that's away or just run. You can activate Youmuu's during ult for catching up.
You can 1v5 with R and Youmuu's, just W > E in and R dude. Easier with Death's Dance for the penta.

Explanation: Crazy Builds

Well. I'm going to explain. Wukong's DPS is GREAT. I know it sounds crazy, but it's awesome, plus the Crushing Blow damage with Sheen is incredible. Plus Trinity and Sterak it's the best thing ever. You burst squishies like there's no tomorrow. Certainly a build worth trying, not in rankeds, though. About the Tank Kong build, well, i HATE Tank Wukong, but i'm going to place it there for people who do care. There are some cases where you have to build tank, because you will have no teamfighting power without a tank, and there's why that build exists. In general, don't use it for 99% of the matches, unless you just wanna have fun. Remember, Wukong is an A S S A S S I N. Not a Tank, sometimes a fighter, but never a tank! If you're the type that plays tanks, then there are other types of champions for that! :P
Back to Top

Jungling

Wukong jungle is a bit fragile, and loses a ton of HP in the jungle. You'll need a good leash, take E first and W second, putting another point in E before Q. Usually go
Blue > Gromp > Wolves > Red > Krugs / Raptors, if you lose a lot of HP you can back and get hunter's potion.
ALWAYS get hunter's potion, it allows you to remain healthy in every clear and heal yourself before ganking. Try to stealth before ganking, but where they have no vision so they can't see the clone. Stealth ganking is much easier when you have Youmuu and Mobis, because of the out of combat MS. You have godlike mobility with DMP, Mobis, and Youmuu altogether, so you should always be looking for tricking the opponent with your Decoy. You can counterjungle and Decoy out, so don't be scared to steal a buff ever, just don't do it against Tryndamere, Xin Zhao and other DPS junglers that can destroy you in duels. Decoy resets jungle aggro, E does damage to more than one objective so wolves should be a breeze.
