Xin Zhao Build
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
For ability skill orders, you should focus on maxing out your Three Talon Strike first following with your Battle Cry.
Get ultimate whenever you can and NEVER EVER max out Audacious Charge before Three Talon Strike and Battle Cry.
You should only get 1 point in Audacious Charge early game for initiating or closing the gap between your opponent. Audacious Charge doesn't do enough damage and the cooldown on it is too long. I've seen Guardsman Bob get 2 points in Audacious Charge around level 5, but that's how he plays Xin Zhao, not me.
How to use Xin Zhao's Abilities
Three Talon Strike - You can use Three Talon Strike to last hit. A simple trick I do during laning sometimes is, I last hit 2 minions and have my last hit (3rd hit will knock up the enemy) on standby, if there is an enemy champion in range, I use Audacious Charge and knock them up. This is a pretty effective way of scaring your opponents away or to initiate a fight.
Battle Cry - Use this ability during a fight and your opponents will not be able to escape. If you can keep hitting them and get the cooldown off your abilities you will be constantly knocking them up in the air every 3-4 seconds.
Audacious Charge - Gap closer. Don't use this ability for damage, it doesn't do too much.
Crescent Sweep - Your ultimate. ALWAYS use it after you charge in with Audacious Charge. It takes half percentage HP from your enemy. It will do the most damage when they are at full HP. When Xin Zhao hits level 6 and has his ultimate, he is potentially the most dangerous level 6 champion in the game. Try to get a kill off your laning opponent the moment you hit 6. Your damage output with your ultimate is immense.
Armor penetration Red x9 (Extra damage for your Three Talon Strike and your ultimate)
Attack Speed Yellow x9 (Extra Attack speed is very effective on Xin Zhao.)
Attack Speed Blue x9 (Extra Attack speed is very effective on Xin Zhao.)
Armor penetration Quints x9 (Extra damage for your Three Talon Strike and your ultimate.)
Armor pen Reds should be a must. Don't really see another alternative other than attack speed red.
For Yellows, you could swap it for other runes. Same goes for Blues
For Quintessences, you could use attack speed, HP, or armor pen. Personal Preference.
Overall Play, Rules and Notes
Xin Zhao still can be seen as a very overpowered champion if played right.
A Xin Zhao relies very heavy on a good early game. If he falls behind during early game you will not be able to properly play the role of secondary AD carry/tank. During early game, you should focus heavily on getting farmed and leveling up. You should avoid fights until you hit level 6. He also relies very heavy on leveling up. You could build Xin Zhao full tank with only a [items/the-brutalizer.png] as an offensive item and he will still prove to be as an effective AD carry. This is because he gains a very high offensive potential from his Three Talon Strike, Crescent Sweep and Battle Cry.
You should also commit to the entire fight during a team fight. As long as Xin Zhao is hitting, the cooldown off your abilities will keep going down.
Xin Zhao is very effective with the Red buff. If it is not necessary for your AD carry to take the Red buff, you should take the red buff.
