Mid and Top Yasuo
Not Updated For Current Season
This is my first ever guide that my friends suggested writing about. I may be wrong in some parts so feel free to criticize me.
Special Thanks to 'Souleater5458' for assisting me with this build.
Yasuo is a man of resolve, an agile swordsman who wields the wind itself to cut down his foes. But this once proud warrior has been disgraced by a false accusation and forced into a desperate fight for survival. With the world turned against him, he will do everything in his power to bring the guilty to justice and restore his honor.
Once a brilliant pupil at a renowned Ionian sword school, Yasuo was the only student in a generation to master the legendary wind technique. Many believed he was destined to become a great hero. However, his fate was changed forever when Noxus invaded. Yasuo was charged with guarding an Ionian Elder, but, foolishly believing his blade alone could make the difference, left his post to join the fray. By the time he returned, the Elder had been slain.
Disgraced, Yasuo willingly turned himself in, prepared to pay for his failure with his life. He was shocked, however, to find himself accused not just of dereliction, but of the murder itself. Though confused and racked with guilt, he knew the assassin would go unpunished if he did not act. Yasuo raised his sword against the school and fought his way free, knowing his treason would turn all of Ionia against him. Now truly alone for the first time in his life, he set out to find the Elder's real killer.
Yasuo spent the next several years wandering the land, seeking any clue that might lead him to the murderer. All the while, he was relentlessly hunted by his former allies, continually forced to fight or die. His mission drove him ever forward, until he was tracked down by the one foe he dreaded most – his own brother, Yone.
Bound by a common code of honor, the two warriors bowed and drew their swords. Silently they circled one another under the moonlight. When they finally charged forward, Yone was no match for Yasuo; with a single flash of steel he cut his brother down. Yasuo dropped his weapon and rushed to Yone's side.
Overcome with emotion, he demanded to know how his own kin could think him guilty. Yone spoke: “The Elder was killed by a wind technique. Who else could it be?” Understanding swept over Yasuo as he suddenly realized why he had been accused. He professed his innocence once more and begged his brother's forgiveness. Tears streamed down Yasuo's face as his brother passed in his arms.
Yasuo buried Yone under the rising sun, but could take no time to mourn. Others would be after him before long. His brother's revelation had given Yasuo newfound purpose; he now had the clue that would lead to the true killer. Swearing an oath, he gathered his belongings and, with one last look at Yone's grave, set out with the wind at his back.
Pros / Cons
+Abilities do not have ANY cost
+Short cooldowns and fair amount of damage
+Neglects all projectiles
-Bad early game
-No escape ability
-No Magic Resistance
-E takes bloody long to dash
-Requires pilot to be skilled
Avarice blade is core item for Yasuo and will assist you in farming and fill up extra golds you are missing out whilst roaming or behind in.
Brutalizer is also another great item for Yasuo. As Yasuo needs cooldowns and armor penetration for damage, this makes a great item for Yasuo to build at early game for boost.
Furor upgrade is VERY important. You may be able to charge up Way of the Wanderer with homeguard or walking back home, but the movement speed buff allows you to move swifter when poking and gain more flow as you attack while moving around your target. And because of Yasuo's short cooldowns, Yasuo is able to spam his abilities whilst Furor charging his passive up. If you have played ADC and are good at it, strafing skill from it could help you in 1vs1 situations where you need your shield up.
WARDS NO NEED FOR EXPLANATION, JUST GET SOME WARDS.
As Yasuo is great damage trader, poking the enemy early game decides the flow of the late game. It is best to go charging in when your passive is full for the shield.
Basic Poke Sequence
Charge up 1 Q first -> E to the creep in a safe distance from your opponent -> W for safety (Right in front of the enemy is a great spot to place your wall -> Q at the enemy (Make sure you're in close for your Q since the range of it is smaller than it's description) -> E back to a creep for escape -> Q again to send out the tornado
1. For Damage, charge up 1 Q -> Ping your jungler to charge in on them, E to the closest creep and Q again (Doesn't matter if its dash Q or just Q) -> If they have not successfully escaped or is low enough for a (confident) dive, Q again to make them airborne
2. Charge up 2 Qs, send down your twister -> E to a creep and link it up (Keep using E to catch up)
3. Charge up 1 Q -> E in for distance -> 2nd Q for extra damage and knock up -> 3rd Q for knock up and Exhaust if definite for the kill
Last Breath can be anywhere after the 3rd Q. It is strongly suggested to ult because the cool down on it is very low and it gives 50% armor penetration. (Don't ult in and risk if you see their jungler coming to assist as Yasuo does not have any escape abilities apart from E and Q knock up)
If you are dominating in your lane, it is best to rush brutalizer, boots, pickaxe and roam. Ganking sequence are very close to harassing sequence but without the running part. If you are roaming, be sure to place down 3 wards (1 at wraiths crossing just in front of the bush, wall behind blue buff in intersection to river, mid lane and their jungle and 1 in the mid lane to see if their mid is backing or roaming)
Perhaps you got ganked or could be facing your counter. Avarice blade, pots, boots and wards will assist you in farming and catching up. If requiring ganks, try to notice your jungler where it is warded and when. The expiration times for the wards are 1:20 mins for trinket and 3 mins for vision wards.
Do Not Forget
Mid lane is a great position for Yasuo to go around roaming. If you have your lane pushed and wards are set up in place, you're free to go bot through the enemy jungle (Access through tri brush)and attack them from behind for double kill.
You will not have many chance to win against top laners as Yasuo. For enemy, it may be quiet easy to make a turn around plays and start chomping you up as Yasuo is useless against champions with high amount of burst, enough tankiness or cc. (Such as Shen, Rumble and Vladimir)
This will occur VERY frequently. Same as mid, watch the enemy ward timing, make sure to ward for the enemy jungler, don't push too far and farm safely with Avarice blade + Pots + Q (And W for damage blocking)
Health Regan will really do help you in lane as much as pots. If you are building tanky items first, Rejuvenation Beads are strongly suggested to buy, or Doran's Shield
You can buy items outside of the fountain area before reaching to the nexus turret for top laners. As to all lanes (Especially support - The faster you get there, the better places you will be able to ward) reaching lane faster than your enemy WILL help you, so try and notice the shop distance.
Double Golems are very annoying for junglers to kill, not much exp and gold for how strong they are. Try to take these as you come back to lane for extra gold for Avarice Blade but do not take too much as jungler will start abusing you.
When jungling with Yasuo, take your Q first to clear jungle creeps off quickly for a gank. Your skills should be Q -> E -> Q -> W (Used for wight, wraiths, little lizards and saving allies when ganking) Your ganking sequence should be same with your poking sequence or receiving ganks. Charge up 1 Q, dash in from the lane (Lane Gank) or charge at the enemy champions, Q (It should be dash Q) and 3rd Q for airborne. Use W to save yourself or allies who are in danger from PROJECTILES.
As Yasuo is weak early game and counter jungling on him is easy, ask your supports and tops to trinket your buffs (River is also a nice place) and use your trinket to gain sight of the enemy jungler. (Mostly their red if they're starting with blue)
Yasuo is a very good (Do notice that Riot has listed Yasuo as bruiser) assassin. In team fights, try to aim for their ADC or APC. Stay behind your team at the start, charge up your Q and send down the twister or wait for your teammates to use Knocked Airborne (Janna, Cho'Gath, Alistar, Blitzcrank) and quickly take out their main deals.
Yasuo can also take out enemy's tanks if required. staying near your ADC and taking out tanks and bruisers who charges at them will still assist your team in team fights. Yasuo may also go tanky and protect the ADC if your team requires it.
Yasuo could be a bit too weak to join team fights and assassinate their deals. Try getting wards all over the map with the team's help and take them out 1 by 1 as Yasuo is great for 1vs1 with his ult.
