Intro

Please comment your thoughts!

Disregard the stats displayed above because I am a noob at making build guides. This is my first one. Take some time to read what I have typed because this explains my exact thoughts as to how I have been playing Yorick these past three days. Please feel free to test this and give me feedback before they buff him. :<

Let me just say that Yorick is VERY easy to die with. He's very very squishy early game it's not even funny. I can't believe that they even put out a champion that start's out like this. I'd rather they put out an OP champion then nerf the hell out of it. But it's fun to see if you can do well with an underpowered champion and that's what I did.

THIS BUILD WORKS WELL FOR ME, BUT I'M NOT SURE ABOUT YOU. I JUST WANTED TO PUT THIS OUT TO SEE PEOPLE'S OPINIONS. *I also just put down some runes that I think would be good but I never really pay attention to them since i just have all mana regen runes - 3-

Overview

I'm just going to give an overall explanation on how I play Yorick. He's a tanky dps champion that's pretty underpowered as of right now. I barely started playing him since he's free this week and have tried out a build that works pretty well for me, well most of the time. This build takes a lot of patience and the build up of gold through farming for gold with every chance you get. I personally really like Yorick's play style and I just went with what was natural.

When I first began playing Yorick, I had no idea what I was doing. When he first came out, and people had used riot points to buy him, every one that I'd played against or with were horrible. Whether or not they were feeding, they always ended up with 6+ deaths. This made me think that Yorick was just horrible.

Blah Blah Blah I tried him, he was fun, I've been winning a bit. I have to be honest and tell you that I went on my lower level 'smurf' account to get the hang of him, but there were undoubtedly smurfs on the opposing teams as well. Despite that, using Yorick proved to be viable in some of the games I played on my level 30 account.

It's pretty funny since people tell me not to choose Yorick, or the enemy team calls me a troll, but when I do well, it changes their minds. I really don't have set masteries on using Yorick right now but I would go generally dps masteries as well as some for mana regeneration, so 21-0-9. For the tanky part, I just leave it to the items that i choose for my build.

Summoner Spells

The summoner spells that I would go with are Ghost, and Ignite.

Ignite is pretty handy for getting kills, as it mixes in with the damage from all three of his main abilities as well as his little ghouls running around just poking at enemy champions. It kind of loses it's power late game but it is always handy if an enemy happens to get away with low health, just pop it on them.

Ghost is just for chasing/fleeing -- usually a good choice for a spell.

Exhaust could be a good choice, but I personally don't usually take it a lot.

I haven't used other spells with him yet so I'm not sure if there are any other good combinations. I haven't taken flash with him a lot because he IS pretty good at staying alive if you aren't too reckless.

Skill Sequence

I usually change up the way I choose my skills because I find myself in a lot of situations.

But here's how I usually go:

w -> e -> e -> q -> w -> r
-> e -> w -> e -> e -> r -> w
-> w -> q -> q-> r -> q -> q

Here's how i look at his skills.
Q - like nasus's siphoning strike, except slower. and not stacking of damage.
W - slows.
E - heals you and damages.
R - basically like mordekaiser's ultimate except you can create a copy of your friend and send it into battle. I don't really use it to save my teammates I use it to create a copy of my fed teammate/or even myself, so i can kill faster.

To explain, I use his w early game to check bushes and it's pretty good for the slow. His e is my main way of harassing and maxing it out is pretty important because it helps him regain his health. That coupled with his w's slow makes it easier to get some hits in. When I see other builds they really prioritize the Q with their sheen proc. The way I play is more for hitting from afar so i don't take too much damage.

Items

Okay, when I look at the recommended build, I just think... wtf? It just doesn't really make sense to me. I mean, it's recommended and all, but I just wouldn't take it. I played against a lot of Yorick's who went recommended, and they got raped. He's a tanky. dps. why bother getting something that gives ability power, he doesnt even scale with it. i mean, sheen's passive is good. triforce's move speed, and other passive effects are great, but i play him how i think he should be played. as a tanky dps.

First things first. Doran's blade is a good item. All the Doran's items are good starter items. But Yorick is dependent on mana. Doran's ring is no good since NONE of his abilities scale with ability power. This led me do just flat mana regen items. I went with the Meki pendant. It's mana regeneration is pretty good for Yorick's early game. It also builds into the item that I rush: Manamune. Getting Tear of the Goddess gives Yorick a good about of mana regen, and a big enough pool of mana for him to be able to spam his skills once he completes his manamune.

Berserker's Greaves are the way to go for boots. Since he is a tanky dps, all the items that I build with Yorick are tanky, and damage dealing. None are for attack speed except for Berserker's Greaves.

The next item is Frozen Mallet. The only reasons I chose to build this is for the health and damage. The slow is just a bonus.

Fourth, Atma's Impaler. Before this, I used to build straight into Warmog's Armor for the extra tankyness, but getting Frozen Mallet already gives you a good amount of health to work with mid-game. Atma's Impaler takes that health, and gives you much needed damage for taking down enemies. Adding to that, it gives you armor, and more crit chance.

Fifth, Warmog's. This is the last core item I chose for Yorick. It gives you all that health, and works great with Atma's. (Atmog's) This gives you increasing damage until you cap at the +450 health passive it gives.

These are the main items I would get.

[edit]

I've played a bit more, and getting a sheen somewhere along the way, maybe after frozen mallet, is a pretty good choice for more damage and burst. I'm not sure whether or not to build it into a trinity force yet because that's just me. I think I would just sell it to get a better damage item.
