His passive gives him bonus attack damage based on bonus movement speed. That's why you use ghost. It's an escape spell and can be a steroid too. Also its amazing to laugh while your going 500 MS and not even using your charge. Charge and your hitting 650 easy.

Your right about the boots though. Homeguard is fun but movement speed plus the enchant is where its at. You want to keep your movement speed static as high as possible.

I honestly do not see the point in giving Hecarim The summoner spell, Ghost. He already passively has ignored unit collision, and 27% movement speed for a few seconds is not going to give you the advantage if you're running awhile. in addition, everyone seems to use Homeguard as their boots enchantment, when this speed boost decays the instant you are put into battle. For constant successive damage throughout any scenario and best chances of getting away, wouldn't using Flash to escape, and Boots of Swiftness with 15+ Movement speed enchantment (a +60 Movement speed bonus permanently) be more useful? With the proper items, which almost anyone would use, his speed could be further increased to make him able to hunt down even that pesky Yi with his highlander as an escape tactic.

The only time I see home guard being more important than constant mobility, is if you spend a lot of time defending your home base, which is not a good winning tactic. If anyone would like to argue these points, I wouldn't mind being given a reason to believe otherwise.

Don't know which one to trust. Guess I'll just tinker around myself.

There are simply too many guides for me to look through, but from what I've done so far, Trinity force Atmogs is a really strong core with lots of bruiserish damage and mobility. Also guardsmen bob said he likes to build him a lot like a shyvana.
