 Cassiopeia is good against almost every matchup. You will see her banned at high elo's. Morgana is pretty much insta-win lane against other AP's, because she can push, sustain, and not be ganked because of shield. She's also banned a lot at my elo at least.I also like  Twisted Fate and  Zilean so far as strong ones go. The ones Luther said are strong too. It's good to try to counter-pick the other mid.

AP is a pretty broad term, I would say some strong AP champions right now for top and mid lane are,
Top: Kennen - very safe pick, beats a lot of people with few hard counters Vladimir - broken champion in my opinion, untraditional top lane counters, very safe, scales ******idly well into late game Cho'Gath - very safe pick, can 2v1 lanes Rumble - beats alot of champions, great against melee, but can loose.Mid: Cassiopeia - arguably the best mage, atleast top 3 at the moment, beats a lot of champions with no real hard counters except maybe  Talon Karthus - global ult always makes you a contender, does pretty good damage, can be countered pretty easily though Twisted Fate - as far as a champion I think he's quite weak. He's good 1v1 and his ultimate puts constant pressure on enemy lanes. Ryze - he's just as strong as before, some people think he's even stronger than he previously was from the recent tweaks.

for mid lane in no order:
kennen - hard to counter, makes lane a skill matchup 90% of the time ryze - probably op, no real counters, no real weaknesses. cassio - one of the best casters early game, one of the best casters late game. nuff said. ahri - game changing skill, enough damage to follow up, great ganks. |
