I just got into Riven solo top and i must say i'm surprised how good she is. Strong early game, can poke, 2 soft cc/interupts to help out/escape ganks. Mid game she is strong in ganking and can demolish minion waves so easily to make pushing harder. Late game in a good situation she gets so strong and has such short cooldowns that it's not even funny. I mean who doesn't love a 0.5 sec mini stun every 4.5 seconds :D. Perfect to counter channeling spells. As far as others go i think shen is pretty good, but udyr imo is very hard to counter.

But I would go with Olaf, Cho, Tryndamere, Shen or Yorick. But personally I enjoy Renekton the most, he just synergises so well with jungle ganks because of his speed and stun.
