Randuin's is good on most supports, especially in lower ELO where games tend to last longer and supports tend to get focused in teamfights. Frozen Heart and Abyssal are also good on some supports, but I tend to find that they're too expensive to justify most games.
 Rylai's Crystal Scepter is also good on some supports, for the bonus bulk to stay alive through AoE in fights.For boots, I'm pretty universally building  Mercury's Treads on all my supports, when I upgrade my boots. It's hard to itemize for additional MR on supports, and it's basically the only tenacity item that's actually worth building.

Is it better to build AP, or items that have auras (thingies that help your team), or try to combine both? As well as wards and potions of course.

It depends of the kind of suport. You don´t buy the same items to
 Taric that you would buy to  LuluBut, in early game, the items tend to be the same: Wards, Faerie Charm and pots...Later taking Heart of gold and Philosopher´s Stone...And after that point, all is about the game and the support.  -Thanks to The_Nameless_Bard , Xiaowiriamu and myself for this awesome sigs- -Place for the future guides- |

GP5s depend on how long you plan on staying in lane if you're not support, with HoG as an exception (builds into Randuin's). Top lane usually gets it because it's a farmfest up there. Riven doesn't though, because she goes for kills. etc
I might get it on Cho mid, but definitely not on Ziggs. I wouldn't get it on AD either way however, just because of how much of a disadvantage I'll be at. Supports get it because they really don't have any other reliable sources of income.  |
