Student loan has just arrived, and I'm after a new headset and mic.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I do. Save that money so you can repay the loan later.

That's always a good idea.

However, here's the headset I'm currently using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826289002

(Actually it's a little different and it used to only cost 10 dollars, which is why I wanted to show you)

I've had it for over 6 months and even though I'm pretty rough with it sometimes and it still works well. The sound and mic quality are good, so it's a good deal for the money you spend.

As for a mouse I usually recommend a Razer Lachesis, but since you're on a tight budget I wouldn't go buying any Razer products. I'm not very familiar with other mice so I have nothing to recommend. :c
Thanks to GrandMasterD for my sig!

ok, so I know you want a headset and i suppose you could get one of the cheaper ones that Mowen is talking about but remember that if your actually actively paying off your student loans then (provided you have a stable source of income) you actually end up making more money because you can view the interest you would have payed as a positive gain

huh? If you have a stable source of income to actively pay off your student loan then you wouldn't have asked for a student loan to begin with..

Anyway, if you don't mind spending some cash the siberia v2 are really good.

Student loan paying off is kinda a non-issue seeing as I'm doing a course I get a job at the end from. And it's interest free. But thanks for the concern guys :)

Oh, and I use the headset for skype and keeping in touch with family and people. I'd rather get a headset than pay more on my phone bill...

Ta Mowen. Mouse wise I'm ok, LoL at my level (y'know... poor...) only needs reasonable tracking and two buttons. £5 mouse from Wilko's does me for now :P

Edit: Cheers Canoas, ninja'd me while I was typing :)

I really like my Sennheiser pc360. It's super comfy, has pretty good sound quality, does not noise cancel (I don't like noise canceling headsets) and the mic is pretty nice and noise cancels decently well (Not perfectly in very loud rooms) so yep. Very satisfied. :)

The only downer is they're not cheap.

Mainly I think people forget that the comfort is probably the most important thing. Other sets I've used squeeze or apply pressure, but this set is almost like you forget you're wearing it. ^_^

Edit: if you like noise canceling I think the pc350 is a pretty comparable thing, but the closed version.)

(I did a lot of research before buying mine, most brands have pros and cons, but nobody can ever find a bad thing to say about Sennheiser and I feel the same way after owning a set myself.)

Anything from Logitech is generally a safe buy.
Good quality, lasts a long time and so forth :).

I use 2 headsets... one is the Logitech G330 headset which has excellent mic quality and speaker quality, but is slightly painful to wear unless you are used to wearing it (as in using it about 4+ hours a day, every day). And I also have the Sennheiser HD428 headphones, which I got at about 50% off during Black Friday sales.

I use the Sennheiser's as my speakers and the G330's as my mic.
I am unable to wear the G330's for longer than about an hour or 2 any more because they are just too heavy on the ears and I am not used to them. I really wish that I could JUST use them more often, but they just hurt and even if you build up a tolerance to it, it can't be good if it hurts in the first place.

The Sennheiser's have excellent sound quality, good noise cancellation (sometimes bad!!!), and are extremely comfortable. I'm able to wear them for hours on end and have been able to since I bought them.

As for what to get: get something that you will be able to wear with minimal pain, if you are looking for something just for occasional use I would highly recommend the Logitech G330's, they hold up extremely well to some occasional abuse, yet have extreme quality for the price (I got them for about 30$). One of my friends and I have both had these headsets for almost 2 years and they still are working great and in good shape.
To be updated soon!

Most people will tell you that Logitech and Steelseries 7H are great except for the way they squeeze your head and even hurt your ears.

Apologies to repeat myself, but I think comfort is #1. I would take comfort over the rest of it anyday. For that reason the Sennheiser were worth the pricetag to me :]

If you can't afford them, try to find something like that in a lower price range. Comfort first, the rest of it after. (As long as the audio quality isn't abysmal of course.)
