You don't NEED a cosplay if you go to an anime con, but if your host family wants you to, I would really do it.
You might like to try: Soul from Soul Eater Black Star from Soul Eater Death the Kid from Soul Eater Soul Eater cosplays are extremely popular. Roy Mustang from FMA Yeah, dunno... Simon from TTGL dunno, just look around popular anime and choose what you like best. Also, I wish you the best time in Japan.
