Hello communitaah!
I'm part of a youth political organisation.

In This organisation there Are some crazy people. One of those guys came with the proposal that people who receive money from the State as in welfare etc. shouldn't have the priviledge of voting because their reason for voting would be a personal wealth gain rather than what is best for the country as a whole.

What is your opinion on the matter?
Would you be excluded from voting?

Personally i think that it makes sense, why not just vote for money rather than anything Else?
I do receive money from the state and wouldn't vote for anyone who would lower the money i am bribed with.

If you reply, please answer both questions.

Everyone that is an official citizen 18+ should be able to vote.

Why would the mother of one of the party members be allowed to vote for her son, but would a colleague of a party not be allowed.

Seems rather strange to me.

Better ban votes for everyone then :P

Almost everybody receives money through the state. I get it in the form of grants for my education.

But I still vote regardless of who is offering money. I'd rather have a good leader than money for myself.

I don't think you understand the OP.

He could refuse to obtain welfare and then vote.

So it is a bit like you have to pay to vote?
Or at least, have to give up money they get from the state.

Then my decision remains.
It is a free country, and every voice counts.

I am sure there are a lot of voters that just vote, to vote :P
No idea what they are voting for, just for someone who seems like a nice guy.

Those people have the right to vote, and they are probably also misplaced.
If you want each vote to be honest and well thought, everyone should get a class about what everyone does, what the pros are, what the cons are.
They should all know exactly what will happen when they vote for which person.

Then it is really fair.
But it isn't fair :P

If you are from the USA, every state counts just as much as the other, while Texas for example, has much and much more citizens than most other states. But their vote counts less because each state is equal, not each person.

There are a lot of vote systems that are actually not fair.

But if you want to make it fair, you have to make it fair for everyone.

It is like a basketball game.
The rules should not only be fair to the Guest team, the Home team needs also those fair rules.
Because making it fair for just 1 side, makes actually more unfair, if you know what I am saying :D

Nope it's completely free to vote. You just can't "get paid" and vote

I don't think this is a good idea. That could inflict bias on the end result and further fracture relations between parties.

If you look at your job, and look at the money you got his month, which is less money than you got last month. You lost a bit of salary, or, you lost money.

There is something alike here.
You can get money, but if you want to vote, you cannot.

Maybe a better example:
You work at a spot for 20 years, and the boss wants to reward you for all those years of hard work, by giving you a promotion.
Then, a week later, the promotion went to someone else, someone that only worked there for 5 years, but asks for a lower paycheck.
You deserved that promotion, you deserve that money, but to get the promotion, you have to sacrefice your salary.
This is not fair.

It is very comparable with the voting system you are talking about.
Where someone who has been a loyal citizen for many years, and is promised some money to get paid, is not allowed to vote anymore.

Sounds rather unfair to me.

Sounds like a stupid argument that's trying to disenfranchise demographic groups (such as the poor) who tend to vote for certain political parties. Except without outright saying it. We've some of this **** here in the US, with some largely-Republican states attempting to pass laws that would make it difficult for largely-Democratic demographic groups to vote.

Anyway, the idea is based on a flawed premise. The whole point of a representative democracy (and related forms of government) is that the individual votes for a person/party to represent their interests in politics. So, you know, voting based on what's best for you personally isn't a big deal and is actually consistent with how the system is supposed to be working.

This isn't how elections work in the US. At all.

Still worked for my argument nevertheless :D
