IDK if i really have enough ranked experience to really make a comment but i think Riven is a sound choice. She's got a good burst and high mobility to dodge Urgot's skillshots. I guess the biggest problem would be the sustain.

It might sound crazy, but have you tried Volibear yet? He can flip urgot, slow him, frenzy to do good amount of damage. And if Urgot pokes enough Voli's passive will keep him in lane a little longer.

I don't know. Just a suggestion. Try Voli vs your buddy Urgot main. Or how about you ask him what counters him in lane?

Oh, and I haven't seen Vladmir suggested yet. Would he work? I've vs'd him top lane a few times; his sustain keeps him nice and healthy throughout laning phase.

Riven's sustain is a problem. Her kit is nice, but not enough to survive his harass, I'd wager.

Voli would probably get poked to death. Never seen it, so I can't be sure.

Vlad's early game is a bit mediocre and his sustain takes way too long to get going. Unless you could pool every single grenade (even then, is that worth 20% health every time?), you're going to lose health much faster than you recover it.
Thanks to Hoppermh for the sig!

Riven probably won't survive Urgot.
But I'm not sure.

Sad to see the tree hate. Mao is such a strong pick.

I don't see a reason to ignore Yorick either. The guy absolutely dominates top lane and brings a fantastic ult into teamfights later on.

I think the real issue is the drastic underestimation of what Urgot can do on account of the majority of people leaving suggestions, rather than the hate of certain champions.

^ Well to be fair I think most people don't ever see him being played top and most of the suggestions are'apparently not good enough to counter him. My question is: if he's so hard to counter, why don't people play him more?

(oh and also who's the champion you think you'll use atm?)

Have to play against urgot main?

Why not Zoidberg?

I think any tanky mages, swain, mordekaiser, cassiopeia, Xerath, Morgana, Soraka, or Vladimir can deal with him.

Turtle Udyr would probably be able to deal with him.

Your goal against urgot is to out sustain him, because he has mana issues and no sustain.

The problem is his W really, if he didn't have his W he would be pretty easy to beat, but his W is low cost, gives him a shield and a slow, and makes him a pretty good bruiser.

Basically, if you are purple, you have to aggressively deny his blues, and if you are blue, you have to protect your blue, and generally not die to him.
Tri lane for life.

Actually, Riven's sustain tool is her pathetic high hp regen.
