"New" Mage Build

So I have a idea about Archangel's Staff and Rabadon's Deathcap as core item for a mage build.

The idea is to use those 2 items firstly, and only build defensive mana items after.

Exampel

Ziggs
Base mana is 1150 at lvl 18, +216 from masteries.

Items
Archangel's Staff +1400 mana, when fully stacked
Rabadon's Deathcap
Frozen Heart +500 mana
Banshee's Veil +375 mana
Random boots
Random item

These items combined will give you nearly 430 Ap at lvl 18 (including masteries), and also a bunch of defensive stats.

I used no runes in my calculations and I only included 4 items.

So does this seem legit ? DISCUSS

problem is stacking up archangels. if you can do that then it might work. just might.

No reason to o_o why would you need to build tanky if you're able to engage enemies from a distance?
the current ap mid builds are fine as they are i believe; i don't see any flaws with them
if you want armor get zhonya's
if you want MR get abyssal

both compliment your AP too

430 is really awful for the amount of gold being spent.

Something like this could work on specific champions like Swain, except I would swap banshee's for Abyssal.

Ofc the current AP builds are fine, that is why we use them.
This is a alternative build to "beef" up a regular Mage without losing to much AP but I've never tested it.



True, could also be good on Karma.
But considering you will benefit 20,25 AP (including rabadons and masterie effect), 99 armor, 20% cdr and the unique aura from Frozen Heart, kinda makes it a strong item.

I used to do something like this with Swain (plus Rod of Ages for more bonus mana = AP), but the new mana recovery item has brough advantages on other fields (mr, cdr) which I've noticed so I only do it if enemy team only has like 1 ap

If you want tanky AP, do this:
Get Xerath
then get these items:

Mercury's Treads
Athene's Unholy Grail
Rod of Ages
Morello's Evil Tome
Abyssal Scepter
Rabadon's Deathcap

Every single one of these items gives AP, and cranks the hell out of Ascended Form, plus you get mres from abyssal, merc treads, and athenes, AND you get max cdr as long as you have the 4% from masteries (39%, w/e, .08 seconds can kiss my ***). Ya want tanky ap? there ya go.

572 ap with 50% spell pen (assuming mastery and no mpen runes), an extra 85 armor, extra 118 mres, total of 148, and max CDR (which jacks your dps by a **** TON). If you have 30 ap from runes and masteries, the numbers change to 602 ap and 90 extra armor, to total about 165.

Archangels takes way too long to max out, i usually only build it on Ryze
other than that, w/e, i actually like the DPS from Frozen Heart thru CDR and the armor and attack speed debuff is always nice. You are sacrificing alot of damage for your tankyness, which is what the ap carry is supposed to have. It would work in low ELO where people can't read your item build and determine apporximate DPS, but once you get into mid to high elo, people will hit tab for 2 seconds and decide to ignore you until you're about the last one left b/c they know you arent that big of a threat because of your low AP.

This build could work on Karthus aswell. He is by far the easiest to stack Archangel's Staff and with that build his AoE is even more effective.

The only problem is, as mage, you normally have already enough cdr with blue buff.

For "random item" it would be Zhonya's Hourglass then.

One last thing to note: Resists aren't that usefull without much HP, so a Rod of Ages would be a must there.

I had a build with Annie that could get to 500 AP with these items:

Doran's Ring Doran's Ring Sorcerer's Shoes Rabadon's Deathcap Deathfire Grasp Void Staff

With Greater Seal of Scaling Ability Power Greater Quintessence of Ability Power Greater Glyph of Ability Power and Mental Force , Blast Archmage of course but that's faast.

Your build would take a while, you might get shut down and stuck trying to get your deathcap with no survivability.

How about this new mage build:

Sorcerer's Shoes Mejai's Soulstealer Rabadon's Deathcapx3 Lich Bane
All Mpen runes (or ap). 30/0/0 masteries.
