Depends on his ratios in the end. Riot can obviously tweak them from now to release. From what I'm reading and etc, a on hit build is questionable just because of his overall tankiness. I'm not going to compliment or go against your build because I personally haven't played him yet, I'll just say that he is most likely going to be very squishy with that build. =P
My personal theorycraft on Varus is building standard AD that deals "TONS OF DAMAGE" while running the team comp with bruisers that burst someone in one to two shots. Varus picks up a attack speed stack from his passive and he just proceeds to mow people down with that steroid. Just my ideas and thoughts, subject to change. |

overall tankiness? what?
right now his ratios are .25 for the on hit of w, .01 for the burst of w, and 1:1 for his ult. the passive steroid isnt good enough to rely on, you won't be near minions 100% of the time to kill one for that as boost. riot really needs to release that ad caster item that was supposedly being worked on though. ![]() 'The problem with quotes on the internet is that it's hard to determine their legitimacy.' - Aristotle |

What is the advantage of building him on-hit instead of regular AD?
It seems to me that this build completely ignores his Hail of Arrows and Piercing Arrow abilities. At the same time you don't really get much AP, so you aren't taking advantage of his ultimate and blighted quiver either. I think this setup leaves you extremely squishy, and probably not dealing a large amount of damage once the enemy team builds some MR. I'm just confused. On-hit builds are just...meh the majority of the time. I like it on Varus doesn't have that weakness (depending on where his ratios end up of course). You can't peddle papooses with a dancing monkey.

the build is still giving me 115 bonus ad.
the advantage to building as/ap or hybridy is that not only will his attacking hurt but detonating his w will hurt extremely. i should of also mentioned that im still dealing about twice as much physical as magical damage with this build. ![]() 'The problem with quotes on the internet is that it's hard to determine their legitimacy.' - Aristotle |

I'd be happy to build him either way honestly.

Hold on a second before you dismiss it.
We're giving his W faster stacking as well as CDR. The AP to go with his decent AP scaling is just a bonus.

I'll probably play him straight AD, but AP could be fun. I'm not necessarily dismissing the item, but at some point AS becomes less valuable and by then you're better off building AP/CDR...IF you had Malady+Wit's+Madred's, Nashor's takes a back seat and you could be better off building Morello's or even DFG.

take ghost/surge, with as reds, armor yellows, cdr blues. and hybrid pen quints.

(can someone tell me how to link the little table? please and thanks.)
thoughts? this build is pretty melty, auto attack for massive damage and then spell for massive burst.
so far i have only played 1v1 vs standard ad building varus' and i have won each time.
