League of Legends (LoL) Question: Is Jayce viable?

    Is Jayce viable?

I've been looking around for a fun champ to play and Jayce's kit seems to be what I'm looking for. However, before I sink 6300 ip into him, I would like to ask Jayce's state in the meta. Tiers say he's 2, people say he's weak, and people say he's balanced. I'm not looking for an op champ mind you, but just someone I can learn and be rewarded by taking the time to learn him. I'll reiterate again: "NOT A FREELO CHAMP" (or something to that effect. :b) To be honest, I'm probably not gonna take him into ranked, so I just want to learn him during normal games.

    side question as well:

should i take him mid or top?

There are a ton of Master and Challenger players that play whatever. Like, actually play whatever. Throughout history, we had a very infamous Challenger player that only played AP Sejuani mid, and nowadays, we have people like Heisendong who reached Masters, maybe even Challenger, don't remember too clearly, literally only playing Heimerdinger in any lane. Yes, a 100% Heimerdinger play rate. Jayce is more than capable of being learnt at a high level as well as being played at an exceptional level. For this example specifically, I know of a Korean player who's currently playing NA called, if I remember correctly, Nakyle, who is an absolutely godlike Jayce. If you're skeptical about Jayce not being rewarding enough for the effort, he will definitely turn you mind around. I'll go look for a video I remember watching of his, I'll be right back...

Alright, I was close, his name is Narakyle, but I was definitely right about him being a godly Jayce player, video here.

As for mid and top, well, if you're going to be dedicating yourself to him, then you'll most certainly want to learn him mid and top. I'd say he definitely performs better mid right now, since he can snowball easier in mid lane due to the champions generally being squishier and hence much easier to burst down. Top lane is a bit passive at times, which doesn't benefit Jayce in the slightest since he needs to spike for the mid game since the general consensus among Jayce players is that he loses impact late game outside of Shock Blast and Acceleration Gate poke on squishier members.

Theres some guy who is decently well ranked and he's named Mundo and he has a 100% mundo pick rate in ranked.

Everything is viable in solo q, especially in normals and as luck would have it, Jayce is actually a solid pick, even in this meta. Also, I believe he's better in mid lane than he is in top lane atm, but you can play him in either lane and do just fine.

I haven't really been up with the meta for the last 3 weeks, but wasn't he like tier-1 just a couple of weeks back?
