Proving Grounds

The Proving Grounds used to be a basic map for teaching new players the gameplay mechanics and basic concepts of the game such as using abilities and what turrets are.

It was also known later on as "ARAM" or "All Random All Mid". After the rework in patch 3.6 it was renamed to "The Howling Abyss". It has been forgotten ever since.


Proving Grounds Specifics

Proving Grounds harbours a fast-paced gameplay, and as such, many statistics of the game had to be altered to account for this, including:
  • Champions start at level 3 with 1375 gold.
  • A fixed experience gain over time.
  • Increased gold gain over time. (26 gold per 5 seconds)
  • Reduced gold gain by killing champions.
  • Increased gold gain by killing minions.
  • The Recall spell is disabled.
  • Respawn times are reduced.
  • The fountain does not regenerate health or mana.
  • You can only use the shop if you stay behind your inhibitor. Once you go past it you can not buy any items until you die.

Along with these statistic changes, a buff can be obtained throughout the game:
  • Health Relics - are items that provide champions using them with an instant burst of HP and mana. These were placed to counter the advantage that sustainable champions had. They spawn at 3:10.


Summoner Spells on Proving Grounds

Upon using Barrier you will receive a shield that scales with your Champion's level. It is comparable to Heal, but you shield for slightly more and the hp does not persist. It is improved by the mastery Summoner's Resolve which reduces it's cooldown.

Also, this map no longer exists.

You should point out where the health relics are located, otherwise this is very helpful.
