ROCCAT's Pantheon and Malphite combination

ROCCAT is the new sponsor of the team that was known as Kiedyś Miałem Team, players that have been around the competitive scene in Europe for a while. You may know the lineup as Anexis, Infused, or H2k Gaming, all organizations that didn't work out for the team. After earning a spot in the EU LCS, they acquired the sponsorship of the gaming peripheral manufacturer, ROCCAT, and if the first week is any indicator they look to make a name for not only their sponsor but also themselves this Spring.

In their first game of the split, ROCCAT played against the Supa Hot Crew XD and they brought out a surprising team composition that featured a top Malphite and mid Pantheon. Here are the lineups:

ROCCAT's team revolved around the Pantheon and Malphite combo and their ultimates. They banned out the top lane dominators, Dr. Mundo and Shyvana, to put Malphite against Renekton in the top lane since they were fairly certain SHC would first pick the last piece of the 3.15 top lane trinity. Malphite would more than likely struggle against the magic damage of Mundo and the early game bullying of Shyvana wouldn't be easy to deal with. Renekton wouldn't necessarily be easy but at least Jankos could put Xaxus on an island while he helped Pantheon in the mid lane against Gragas. Basically, Jankos had to make sure that his solo lanes got to level 6 in as good of shape possible.

Supa Hot Crew could have put the solo lanes of ROCCAT in an even bigger disadvantage but SHC's jungler, Impaler, decided to focus his attention on the bottom lane in the early game. However, Xaxus was still behind Mimer in the top lane and had to buy a Crystalline Flask to stand his ground; he later sold the flask. Also, Xaxus had to blow his teleport around level 6 to get back to the lane so he didn't get too behind in farm since Mimer pushed the creep wave to his tower. The use of the teleport pushed back the first global gank for ROCCAT by a few minutes.

The game was going better in the middle lane for Overpow but he still had to worry about Gragas's burst coming in at any moment through an Explosive Cask. In the bottom lane, Celaver and VandeR held the push, with help from Jankos. SHC wanted to obviously push down that tower faster due to the resources they were devoting to the push, but they still had a strong lead in the lane. Coming out of laning phase, it looked like it would be a hard game for ROCCAT.

While the laning phase wasn't great for ROCCAT, the strategy for them was never to win the laning phase because it didn't matter for this team composition. All that mattered was surviving, level 6, and the first big item. The ROCCAT team composition was about teamfighting but it wasn't a combo that was easy to pull off. First, for it to be effective, SHC needed to be clumped up. Second, Xaxus needed to get a multi-champion Unstoppable Force off. Third, Overpow needed to chain Grand Skyfall while the rest of ROCCAT did damage. Those three things had to come together for this comp to be worth it and surprisingly enough they did, several times in the game.

The picture above is the first time we saw the combo work to full effect. It was 20 minutes into the game, SHC was sieging the mid lane but Xaxus was rotating down from the top lane. Overpow started Grand Skyfall right when Xaxus was almost in range for Unstoppable Force. SHC started to retreat once the ominous ring appeared on the map but Xaxus was there for a two-man ultimate which knocked them up long enough for Pantheon to fall on them. ROCCAT got four kills for zero deaths in that fight and got an early baron out of it.

While ROCCAT had just decisively won a teamfight and they had the baron buff, they hadn't taken down a tower. The lack of a downed tower changed quickly. Since Xaxus ran teleport as a summoner spell and Pantheon had a long-range ultimate, the team was able to do a 1-3-1 split push which gave them four towers while they had baron. The objectives and kills gave the team an influx of gold and they all went back and bought their next big item, the gold enabled Jankos to buy a 24 minute Rabadon's Deathcap on jungle Elise.

The combo only got more deadly with the more gold that ROCCAT accumulated. Xaxus completed a Void Staff to go with what I'm fairly certain were hybrid penetration runes. Overpow completed The Black Cleaver and Last Whisper to deal maximum damage on his spears. The penetration was important since SHC had already built an Aegis of the Legion, Renekton built both Spirit Visage and Sunfire Cape, and Moopz built Zhonya's Hourglass first. However, even if SHC survived the burst, they were going to have a problem killing Overpow because his third big item was a Warmog's Armor.

Man I edit all the other articles that come out here but apparently can't edit my own. Either that or I'm trying to create my own dialect.

Thanks! One day I'll learn how to fill out forms accurately. Sad part is we had a few people check this article and you were the first to see it.
