Champion Build Guide

🏆 SORAKA - MAXIMUM HEAL POTENTIAL 🏆

By Bobcho1

Hello there!
My name is Bobcho and I am player of League of Legends since season 2.
I am main support and my favourite champion is Soraka,
so today I will give you some tips and instructions
on how to dominate with her as support.
Please notice that this build focuses on playing Soraka
passively by keeping your allies alive from behind.
This is my way of playing her and the best in my opinion.
However, some people prefer playing her aggressively.
Some tips for those people will still be included in the guide.
Thank you for reading the guide, have fun and don't forget to vote! ❤

Pros

Best healer in the game
Good CC
Extremely strong mid-late game
Not very hard to master

Cons

Squishy
Not very strong early game
No good escape abilities
Very team dependent

Salvation (Passive)
RANGE: 2500
Soraka gains 70% movement speed when moving towards allied champions below 40% of their maximum health who are outside of Astral Infusion's range.

Salvation is your passive ability, which makes Soraka become an ambulance!

Starcall (Q)
RANGE: 800
COST: 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 mana
COOLDOWN: 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4
Soraka calls down a star upon the target location, granting Sight of the area before landing after 0.25 − 1 (based on target range) seconds, dealing 85 / 120 / 155 / 190 / 225 (+ 35% AP) magic damage to enemies within and Slow them by 30% for 1.5 seconds.

If Soraka hits at least one enemy champion, she is also granted Rejuvenation for 2.5 seconds, which restores 50 / 65 / 80 / 95 / 110 (+ 30% AP) health and grants her a decaying 20 / 22.5 / 25 / 27.5 / 30% movement speed buff over its duration.
While Soraka is Rejuvenated she can Rejuvenate other allies with Astral Infusion, granting them the same effects for the same duration.

Starcall is your Q ability, which is the main poke and damage source Soraka has.

Astral Infusion (W)
RANGE: 550
COST: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 mana + 10% Maximum Health
COOLDOWN: 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 / 2
Soraka heals the target ally champion (excluding herself) for 100 / 135 / 170 / 205 / 240 (+ 70% AP). If cast while Rejuvenated, the health cost will be reduced by 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 / 100%. Astral Infusion cannot be cast if Soraka is below 5% of her maximum health.

Astral Infusion is your main heal ability. Later in the game it becomes spamable, delivering a huge amount of heal. Make sure you have hit your Starcall (whenever that is possible and not too risky) before using Astral Infusion as you will not sacriface as much health in order to heal.

Equinox (E)
RANGE: 925
EFFECT RADIUS: 250
COST: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 mana
COOLDOWN: 20 / 19 / 18 / 17 / 16
Soraka creates a celestial zone at the target location, dealing 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+ 40% AP) magic damage to enemy champions that were inside it upon creation. The zone then persists for 1.5 seconds, silencing all enemy champions within it. After the duration, the zone detonates, dealing the same magic damage to all enemy champions within and briefly rooting them for 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds.

Equinox is your main CC ability. It is very useful as it is an AOE silence with almost imediate cast. It is tricky to use though- you have to predict the enemies' position in order to Root them.

Wish (R)
RANGE: GLOBAL
COST: 100 mana
COOLDOWN: 160 / 145 / 130
Soraka calls upon the stars, instantly healing all allied champions, and herself by 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 55% AP), which is increased by 50% on targets below 40% of their maximum health.

Wish is your strongest Heal ability. It heals EVERYONE on your team greatly.

PRIMARY

RESOLVE

Currently Guardian is the best choice for Soraka, in my opinion. It grants a shield and movement speed for you and your carry, as you stay next to them or heal them, at the moment either of you receive any damage. This is extremely useful in critical situations because of the fast shield cast Guardian delivers. Very helpful if any "bursters" (like assasins... or maybe everyone in S11? o.O) jumps on your carry, the shield will ignore some of the damage momentally. Some prefer playing with Summon Aery and Sorcery as main rune tree. In my opinion this way Soraka is even squishier and cannot react to extreme situations as effective as with Guardian.
The best choice here. Font of Life activates as soon as you Starcall or Equinox an enemy champion. Now your ad carry heals even more by hitting enemies. Don't forget Font of Life activates Ardent Censer also.
Bone Plating gives you some defense. You need it as you will get focused a lot. Also it is very useful in damage lane trading.
Revitalize is one of the main reasons you want to go for Resolve. Every heal you cast and shield (from Guardian) will have increased power. Also it stacks well with Wish as it increases the power even further on targets below 40% maximum health (just like Wish).
12 Armor is great for avoiding being so squishy. Ability Haste is prefered as this build focuses on more cooldown reduction.

SECONDARY

SORCERY

Nimbus Cloak is really useful as it delivers more mobility. It increases your chances of success in situations where you use spells to escape/chase enemies. Nullifying Orb is an alternative to it. Take it only when enemy team has 3 or more AP champions- might be of use. Transcendence increases your Ability Haste really well. The bonus provided on level 11 is really great for Soraka. Every takedown (kill/assist) reduces your basic abilities' cooldown by 20%. That way, you can spam Astral Infusion even more in late game teamfights. Spamming Astral Infusion is the way to go.

START ITEMS

RELIC SHIELD
VS

SPELLTHIEF'S EDGE
Go for Relic Shield if you want to play safe early game. This is recommended as Soraka's early game potential is not really impressive. Also if you are facing high poke annoying enemies at bot, Relic Shield is the way to go- bonus Health Regeneration, bigger sustain, easy quest completing from the backline. Go for Spellthief's Edge if you like to play aggressively. This is not recommended unless you are already a skilled Soraka player. Anyway, you get some bonus damage from Spellthief's Edge as well as some bonus Mana Regeneration, so you can spam Q more often.

CORE ITEMS

ARDENT CENSER
You want to go for Ardent Censer most of the times. It boosts your carry's attack speed and damage and stacks very well with Font of Life.

STAFF OF FLOWING WATER
You also want to go for Staff of Flowing Water most of the times as it helps you and your ally survive some extreme situations. Also, the passive bonus stacks with Moonstone Renewer really well as the bonus is given with each tick of Moonstone Renewer's passive.

OTHER SITUATIONAL ITEMS

MOONSTONE RENEWER
This is a good item for Soraka in my opinion. Its passive is activated each time you deal damage to an enemy champion with an ability/basic attack. Now your damage provides healing to your allies as well. It also gives your other Legendary Items even more Ability Haste. However, i prefer playing Soraka more from the back line. This item is not as useful from there.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS
Zhonya's Hourglass is a must if enemies have champions like Zed, Fizz, Qiyana, etc. They will most probably focus you and one shot you in every teamfight, so be sure you have this item.

LOCKET OF THE IRON SOLARI
Locket of the Iron Solari is a great item if your team needs more defense. Good pick vs. Katarina Katarina- use it as soon as she ults. However it is not a common item for Soraka as you will be focused on Heal Power items.

SHURELYA'S BATTLESONG
Shurelya's Battlesong is another great pick for Mythic item. It gives you some more mobility. Don't forget that the Active gives all allies around you some bonus damage as well.

BANSHEE'S VEIL
Banshee's Veil is a very good CC-protect item. Pick it against champions like: Morgana, Lux, Zyra, Zoe or other projectile root champions as it gives more Magic Resist as well. Do not buy it if you are already using Mikael's Blessing because one Active Cleanse will be probably enough. If you feel good enough at dodging or enemies don't have extreme CC and you just need some more Magic Resist, buy Spirit Visage instead. It gives you Magic Resist, Health and 30% more self heal gain from your Starcall and Wish.

BOOTS OF MOBILITY
Pick Mobility Boots if you are into roaming. Sometimes Mobility Boots are useful if you want to get to an injured ally fast. This could be game-turning for a fight.

Vigilant Wardstone
Very useful late game support item. Provides tons of Ability Haste, gives Movement Speed and increases the cap amount of placed Vision AND Pink wards. Also, you can store up to 3 Pink wards inside it. Vision is an important thing in late game.

FLASH
Not much to say. It's a must because it is the best escape spell.

HEAL
By having the heal of the bot lane, you give your ad carry to have a choice between Barrier and Exhaust which are a bonus of escape ability. This is important since you and your ad carry are pretty squishy and your spells have long CD early game. Later on, you will have tons of Heal Power from your items, so the Heal in your hands will be much stronger than if it was in your ad carry's hands. It also helps you survive extreme situations. Heal is still top Sorakas' favourite pick.
If your ad carry wants to pick Heal at any circumstances, you can take Exhaust for the same results.

IGNITE
Ignite is the way to go if you want to play aggressively. Goes better with Spellthief's Edge. You might even take the Summon Aery tree for max aggressiveness.

BARRIER
Many people decide to go with Barrier. The only reason (that I can see) for that is if your ad carry insists on taking Heal and you need survivability (just like with Exhaust). At first look Barrier's shield is bigger than Heal's heal. But don't forget that you have Heal Power from your items, so now Heal will actually have much bigger heal than Barrier's shield. Also Heal gives some movement speed and heal to you AND the allies around, which is very useful sometimes.

  • Try to use Starcall (when possible and don't take risks) before using Astral Infusion. This way you don't sacrifice as much Health.

  • If your ally can wait for the heal and has Grievous Wounds, wait for its effect to finish and use Astral Infusion after. You don't have to waste twice more Health and Mana if you are in a safe position. Grievous Wounds is a de-buff effect that reduces any incoming heals by 40% and is Soraka's biggest enemy. When champions are de-buffed with it, a heart with knives appears above their head.

  • Salvation shows arrows around Soraka. They point to the low Health allies. In teamfight, when you see the arrows, you can imediately use Wish in order to get the max potential out of it easily.

  • If you are using Relic Shield, try to kill melee/siege minions. The wizard minions give less gold.

  • Keep an eye on your team Health indicators. They are usually placed right on top of the minimap. This way you can react faster with Wish.

  • Sometimes if you feel like your team is safe enough, you could use Wish just before an ally take a kill (even without a need). You take a free bonus assist and probably a stack for Ultimate Hunter. Be careful, though, this is risky - you won't have ult soon if needed.

  • If you are facing supports with "channel" spells (like Pyke's Hook, Varus's Arrow, Janna's ult, or even Malzahar's R, etc.), try to save your Equinox as much as possible, so you can interrupt the channeling when needed.

  • Do not face check bushes in order to put wards, because Soraka is squishy and that is too risky. Maybe, if you feel safe enough, use Starcall before going there, as it gives you sight over hidden enemy champions.

LATE GAME VISION SPOTS

And don't forget. You can ward through huge walls by just carefully placing the ward on top of them! :)

Thank you for reading my Soraka guide.

It was a great pleasure writing it.
