[10.16b] GUIDE YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR | TOP/JUNGLE/MID

By KillyOne
INTRODUCTION

About Me

Hi, I am KillyOne and this is my Lillia guide for Top, Jungle and Mid lane. I play League of Legends for quite a few years, more accurately since season 4, late season 3. Recently I started making content about it like these Guides, mainly cause I like to make and write stuff. But also to provide the best quality guide I can for those who want to learn more about League of Legends.

I also make some YouTube videos here and there and if you find that there is a video linked to this Guide, do go check it out! You can also tune in on my Twitch channel if you see me online.

About the guide

In this guide I extensively cover everything I know about Lillia and how to play her in the roles stated previously, Top, Jungle and Mid. This is going to be a long read, so get yourself a cup of coffee ☕ or a cup of tea 🍵 if that's what you prefer. Put on some lofi music🎶 and read on!

Another thing you might wanna know is that, this guide will contain a lot of images and video clips (which you might have noticed from the introduction alone hehe).
So if you are on mobile data 📶 you might wanna switch to WiFi, or ♥ Favorite the Guide for later!

Don't worry if you can't read the guide in one go, thats why the guide is in multiple chapters, making it easier for you to navigate and come back to the parts you didn't get to read. You can find the chapters on the right side of your screen, clicking the chapter name will lead you directly to it, saves you the hassle of scrolling through the entire page.

You can also import the item sets from the links I provided on the left side. These files can be imported via your League Client, when you go to Item Sets tab and Click Import from File. This is useful because you won't have to search for items every time you play Lillia and when you play her in a different role it will change items to fit that role. Give it a try!

Last but not the least, do make sure to 👍 Rate this guide and if you have any questions leave them in the comments. I will do my best to reply to you as soon as possible!
ABOUT LILLIA
If a phrase "death by a thousand cuts" was a champion, that champion would most certainly be Lillia. I think this phrase describes her playstyle really well as you really never want to fully commit to an all in, unless the enemy is super low and you know your Q Blooming Blows or W Watch Out! Eep! can finish them off.
Her entire kit is built around that idea, of hitting someone then running away and once your abilities are off cooldown you go back in and repeat the proccess. This is what she excels at and this is how you should learn to play her, if you wish to play her effectively and to her full potential.
She is extremely squishy champion, not just early but throught most of the game, even with a few defensive items you will still be one of the squishiest champions in the match. This is why it is important to learn to keep your distance with fights and engages, and ultimately this is what makes a difference between a good Lillia player and a bad one.
You will hear a lot of people saying that Lillia needs a buff or she will "remain" usless. But this is simply not true, I think she is one of the rare few champions we got that are actually really well balanced for what they are. Riot balancing team doesn't often get praised, but I think we should give them credit where the credit is due. She is not overpowered nor is she underpowered, she is a skill based champion and skilled players will excel at playing her.

Not everyone will like her playstyle and that's okay, that is why we have such a wide variety of champions to choose from in League of Legends and everyone can find something they enjoy playing.

For those that do like Lillia and wish to get better, well this guide is for you folks. I've done my best to make the guide as best as I can and I hope you find it useful on your way to becoming the next Challenger Lillia main!
If you need to learn only one thing about Lillia

"Death by a thousand cuts"

Is that one thing you should know.
PASSIVE DREAM-LADEN BOUGH

Lillia's passive is Dream-Laden Bough and you would be forgiven to think that it is similar to Brand's passive Blaze, in the sense that they both deal Percent Health Damage over a short period of time, after attacking enemy with their abilities.
This is a pretty nice passive in my opinion and as most things in her kit, it works really well with her playstyle. This passive makes items like Liandry's Torment, Rylai's Crystal Scepter or Morellonomicon much more effective on Lillia than champions who don't have a "tick" passive.
What makes it more effective is the fact that the passive will proc these items every time the passive itself procs. When combined with Rylai's Crystal Scepter it enables you to slow opponents with every ability you hit them with. Adding Liandry's Torment on top of that will increase the damage massively as well since Liandry's Torment benefits from Rylai's Crystal Scepter's slow.

There are also a few other things you may notice in the clip provided above and that is that she can stack Conqueror really well. Under 10 seconds in fact and if you tried to stack it quicker you could, because in this clip I didn't even try to do it as fast as I can and I only used Q Blooming Blows and Auto Attacks, at level 1.
By simply hitting an opponent with 1 of your abilities, you get 4 stacks of Conqueror thanks to your passive.
Q THE BLOOMING BLOWS

Her first active ability, that being Q Blooming Blows has two parts, the passive and active part.

PASSIVE PART

Passive part comes in the form of movement speed boost that stacks up to 5 times and activates every time you land your Q on monsters, minions or champions. The stacks start falling off one by one after 5 seconds, this is similar to Udyr's passive Bridge Between.
You also gain 1% extra movement speed bonus for every 100 ability power (AP) that you have.

ACTIVE PART

For her active ability she swings her staff in circle dealing damage to everyone inside 🔴 of it, while everyone cought on the edges ⭕ of the circle takes true damage.
This ability is very "spammy" as it has a relatively short cooldown and it is the ability you will be using most often. The fact this ability also has a low mana cost, helps out as well.

Blooming Blows gives your kit main source of mobility as well as damage, making it quite an important ability, thus is the ability you will max out first 99% of the time.
W IS NOT A DASH
Yes as the chapter title says, her W Watch Out! Eep! is NOT a dash! I see so many people mistake this for a dash, while in reality it's got nothing to do with dashing. Maybe this confusion comes from her animation, but if you look closely at it, you can see that she actually just winds up her staff and then slams the ground with it. As this ability is not a dash, you can't use it as a gap closer or to jump over walls. You can see the animation in the clip shown below!

Now lets talk about what this ability actually does! W Watch Out! Eep! is a short channel 🧨 type ability, that does Area of Effect (AOE) damage in the shape of a circle 🔴 (much like your Q). Unlike the Q Blooming Blows where enemies at the edge take extra damage, in W Watch Out! Eep! enemies hit in the center 🔴 of the ability take twice the damage than those at the edge's ⭕.
This ability is best when combined with things like your R Lilting Lullaby or any other form of crowd control that enables you to land the center of your W for maximum damage. This being a channel 🧨 ability, meaning that it takes a short amount of time before it activates, gives your opponents short period of time to cancel the ability by stunning you. But this is very unlikely as the channel time is really short so you shouldn't have to worry too much about that happening.
E SWIRLSEED

Her E Swirlseed comes in the form of a giant rolling seed, that might remind you of Rammus when he is using his Q Powerball. Lillia basically throws the seed and it rolls until it hits something or someone and YES this is a global ability!

If Swirlseed hits a champion, monster or a minion, it will "explode💥" in form of a cone 🔻. When it explodes it deals damage to everyone inside the cone 🔻 and slows them as well. You can throw the seed over objects and obstacles like walls, turrets, etc if you cast it inside its inital cast radius. Just make sure the radius reaches over the obstacle you want to throw it over.

R LILTING LULLABY
Finally we come to her ultimate, R Lilting Lullaby. This is a global ability, the global part might not mean that much, because you have to hit one of your other abilities in order to activate Lilting Lullaby. The only other global ability you have is your E Swirlseed which is not the easiest ability to hit, especially not globally. But that makes it all the more satisfying when you do hit that clutch long range Swirlseed and then put your enemy to sleep with Lilting Lullaby.

Once you hit the enemy with one of your other abilities, they will be marked to signify that you can use your ultimate Lilting Lullaby on them. Once activated the ultimate will make them "drowsy" for 1.5 seconds. "Drowsy" basically means they will be slowed for 1.5 seconds before they get stunned, much like what Zoe's E Sleepy Trouble Bubble does. Also like shown in the clip above, this ability will affect everyone who has been hit by your abilities in the last few seconds, making it really effective in teamfights.
Once the Lilting Lullaby puts enemies to sleep 💤, they will become volunrable for the duration of the sleep💤. When someone hits them while they are in the sleep state, they will wake up form that state and they will take extra damage as well. If nobody hits them, they will not take any damage from the Lilting Lullaby.
WHEN TO PICK LILLIA
Before we get to the specific roles, I would like to say a few things about picking Lillia. If you are wondering, "what does he mean, about picking Lillia, I want to main her!", well, I want to say that sometimes you might not want to play Lillia in certain matchups. You have to understand Lillia gets hard countered by Assassins and bursty champions especially if they have a gap closer as well. In matchups like that you will have a bad time and you could be the reason your team loses the match. This applies to Lillia regardless of which lane you play her in, so just consider that it might be better to pick someone else at times for your own good .

Some examples of Bad vs Good matchups

👎 Bad Matchups

👍 Good Matchups

"There is no shame in losing when you gave your best, but sometimes giving your best means picking someone else." -KillyOne

TOP LANE RUNES
This is the rune that makes Lillia top so good and its all thanks to the fact that with her passive Dream-Laden Bough she can stack Conqueror really quickly. This helps with your sustain as when the Conqueror is fully stacked you heal for 15% of the damage you deal. On top of that you gain Adaptive Force which means you gain extra Ability Power really early on, which in turn means you deal more damage as well.
I choose Triumph over Overheal for an obvious reason that Lillia doesn't have a heal in her kit and when your Conqueror is fully stacked it means you are already in a fight with the enemy, in which case you are not very likely to have a full healthbar in the first place. Presence of Mind on the other hand could be a secondary choice if you find yourself running out of mana often, which I don't think you should be as her mana costs are fairly low. While the heal from Triumph can often save you from dying.
I pick this rune over Legend: Alacrity and Legend: Bloodline because Lillia doesn't auto attack a whole lot nor does she build any life steal. So those runes are quite wasted on her and instead tenacity helps to keep you as slippery as possible.
Majority of the time I choose this rune when I go for the Precision rune tree. It helps you finish off enemies that are really low and I consider it the best of the three choices in this rune slot.
Manaflow Band gives you good mana sustain and is often one of the few mana regen things you will need. If you are facing AP heavy team you could go for Nullifying Orb to negate some of the potential magic damage. But Nimbus Cloak I would not recommend top lane as you do not want to burn your summoners all that often.
I often switch between Transcendence and Celerity depending on how I feel the certain matchup might go. Both are good runes on Lillia on practically every lane, so just pick whichever one you like.

  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • Armor or Magic resist depending on the matchup
TOP LANE ITEMS
Rod of Ages provides good balance of ability power, mana and health and Lillia benefits from all these stats. Especially when you play her in the Top lane, even thou she remains fairly squishy, this item gives her ability to soak up more damage.
If you are doing okay in lane, I recommend going Liandry's Torment after completing your Rod of Ages. This item gives a big spike in Lillia's damage when combined with your passive Dream-Laden Bough.
I really like the synergy of Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Lillia's passive Dream-Laden Bough. The utility, aka the slow this item provides in combination with Dream-Laden Bough damage over time is just good on her. It enables you do run around your opponents even faster, because they will be slowed down and have a much harder time catching you. Not to mention that you can easily apply Rylai's Crystal Scepter's passive on multiple targets thanks to your Q Blooming Blows.
When it comes to defensive items, these two are the ones I recommend. Because Lillia is not exactly a true tank champion, you don't get too much benefit from going straight defensive items like Thornmail, Randuin's Omen or Spirit Visage. None of your abilities or stats scale with either Armor or Magic Resist, this is why Banshee's Veil and Zhonya's Hourglass are much better defensive items. They still provide you with stats you need, like Ability power, but also give decent defensive stats to help your survivablity. Which of these you buy first will depend on your matchup and how the match is going. If you need armor, get Zhonya's Hourglass first. If you need magic resist, get Banshee's Veil first.
When it comes to choosing the right boots 👢🥾 for you, it usually comes down to what you need the most in your situation. Some games you will need Ninja Tabi while others you will need Mercury's Treads. Then in some games you will be stomping the enemy and will want to stomp even more, so you will go for something like Boots of Swiftness or Ionian Boots of Lucidity. It's really up to you which ones you take.
LILLIA TOP LANE

Lillia top lane is quite a good pick, because she can outrun 🏃‍♀️ most top laners she is fairly safe, unless you mess up with her and get cought out. She does really well versus melee champions that don't have a high burst and especially when you combine that with a lack of gap closer. Which most popular top laners do not have. As long as you can keep your enemy at your Q Blooming Blows distance and no closer than that, you will be fine.

As you can see in this clip, once Garen has used his Q Decisive Strike and E Judgment he no longer has anything else to follow up while I constantly keep spamming my Q Blooming Blows, poking him to low health. Even thou I derped and missed a few abilities in this clip, I still manage to chase him down and score the kill 💀.
This is how you should play with Lillia as I mentioned previously, you go in to poke, fall back, then repeat. If they try to chase, you can more often than not just keep kiting while backing off since your Q range is quite nice especially versus champions like Garen or Darius.
Lillia is really good at keeping pressure in her lane, thus forcing the enemy jungler to respond and come to your lane. Expect this to happen quite often especially the better you get at Lillia, the more the enemy team will be forced to come top and try to shut you down.
Do not be scared of things like ganks, but be careful of them of course, because no matter how good you are, if you find yourself in a bad position, it can cost you quite a bit. You have the tools 🛠 to outplay the gank or at the very least get away without dying, so learn to use those tools.

In this clip I got ganked by enemy Kayn that was very close to killing me had he got just a little bit closer to me at the end. But I managed to get my Lilting Lullaby on him which allowed me to land a perfect W Watch Out! Eep! 🔴 dunk and finish it off with a Q Blooming Blows.
Once you land your R Lilting Lullaby you are able to do large amount of damage to the unfortunate soul that finds themself hit by it.
Stacking your passive Dream-Laden Bough is really important in lane and since you can stack it off minion waves as well as champions, there is no reason not to have it stacked up most of the time. It provides you with great mobility advantage over your opponent and enables you to do what Lillia does best. Hit and run until your enemy is dead or tilted to death.

Keep up the pressure if you are winning your lane, there is no reason not to capitalize on it. Take the tower plates 🍽, take the towers, if your laner is pushed in go roam for rift scuttler or enemy buff. Help your team mates gain an advantage by roaming to their lane and puttin pressure on their laner, etc. Help take objectives like rift herald or dragons, your team mates will appreciate you for it.
JUNGLE RUNES
The reason I go Phase Rush on her instead of the popular choice in jungle that seems to be Dark Harvest. Is that in my opinion Dark Harvest does not fit Lillia's true playstyle, at least not the way I play her. She is not an assassin and it is rare that you are the one "harvesting" people around the map. She benefits from longer fights where she can hit and run, then repeat. Thats where she shines and Dark Harvest is not meant for that type of playstyle. You can proc Phase Rush multiple times in just one fight versus an enemy, while Dark Harvest can only be activated once per enemy and that is when they are already low.
This is a really good rune especially on junglers, because you can proc it every time you Smite something. This gives you a burst of speed and ignores unit collision, everything the Lillia lives for.
Like I talked about in the Top Lane Runes chapter, Celerity and Transcendence are both very good runes on Lillia. You are not wrong for going either one, but sometimes you might want to have more cooldown over movement speed, and vice versa.
Sadly there isn't too much choice in this rune slot 🤷‍♀️, because in my opinion all 3 of these runes Scorch, Waterwalking and Gathering Storm are wasted on Lillia. But Waterwalking is the lesser of 3 evils, since you do spend some time in the river as a jungler.

For the secondary tree I pick Domination, because the extra heal from Taste of Blood is quite nice and helps you sustain for longer in fights.
Because Lillia's ultimate Lilting Lullaby has a long cooldown, I opt to go for Ultimate Hunter, just to reduce enable me to have my ultimate up more often.
  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • Armor or Magic resist depending on the matchup
JUNGLE ITEMS
When it comes to a jungle item, I think Skirmisher's Sabre - Runic Echoes is the best way to go on Lillia. Damage reduction helps Lillia's survivability in fights, while the damage over time helps you duel people more effectivly. Damage reduction is the main reason I go for Skirmisher's Sabre - Runic Echoes over Stalker's Blade - Runic Echoes.
Much like when playing top lane, reason for going Liandry's Torment is pretty much the same. It is a great item on Lillia and there is no reason not to get it after your jungle item. It will boost your damage and give you some health which gives more survivability.
The slow that Rylai's Crystal Scepter provides is just really good addition to Lillia's kit in my opinion. Being able to slow multiple enemies and keep them slowed for a while and also being able to constantly re-apply your slows due to the low cooldown of your Q Blooming Blows is just super valuable.

For your defensive item I recommend one of these two. Depending on how the game is going and which stats do you need more. If you need Armor go with the Zhonya's Hourglass if you need Magic Resist go with Banshee's Veil.
If your game is going good and you find that you don't need to go with 2 defensive items. Then I recommend you to buy Rabadon's Deathcap to boost your damage and hit your enemies harder when you engage on them. The extra damage will help you carry if your other team mates lack damage. But be careful as you will be squishier and easier to kill without a defensive item.
As it usually goes when choosing which Boots it largely depends on your situation and what kind of team you are facing. If you need armor then Ninja Tabi is your friend, opposite goes for magic resist where you would get Mercury's Treads instead. When it comes to Sorcerer's Shoes you should get them if you are doing quite well and would like to snowball further. While Ionian Boots of Lucidity should be bought only if you really need some extra cooldown reduction and there is no other way to gain it.
JUNGLE ROTATION
I start my jungle rotation on Red Buff side of the map, unless I am unable to do so in case of an Invade by enemy team. In which case I would look to steal the enemy Red Buff and then move to my Blue Buff, or commonly known as "vertical jungling ⏸ 🌳".

Don't be like this Heimerdinger that just put down his turrets and left, give your jungler a decent leash on the first buff.
After you take the Red Buff, you can move on to raptors . Lillia has a pretty easy time taking these due to her AOE and low cooldown on her Q Blooming Blows.
When the raptors are finished, you rotate over to murk wolf camp, which shouldn't take too long.

If you play your cards 🃏 correctly you can actually take Blue Buff without taking damage from it. This is because you are a ranged champion, even tho the range is small it still allows you to outplay jungle camps like Blue buff into taking far less damage than if you were in melee range. In the following clip I have not kited my Blue buff perfectly, that is why I took some more damage, but I was still healthy enough to take my gromp .
Because I didn't kite my Blue buff very well, I had to Smite the gromp to regain some health. After taking the gromp I recall and buy my items, then look to make a play bot lane. If we can't make a play then simply go and take the rift scuttler , after which you can go to krugs and repeat your rotation from there.

I use this same rotation when playing on either side of the map. I start Red buff, move to raptors , murk wolf , Blue buff and then gromp . If you are healthy enough you should look to make a play in the bot lane or take rift scuttler .
Enemy jungler will usually not expect you to start Red buff and move towards bot lane that early, so use that in your advantage as a surprise tactic.
JUNGLE TIPS

There is one item that is going to be your best friend as a jungler. That item is Sweeping Lens. Use this item to sweep out enemy bushes before you try to gank. If there is a ward and enemy is backing away cause they saw you. Then just clear out the ward and wait a few moments to see if enemy will try to ward again. If they do you can ping your team mates to engage and look to get a kill or a few summoner spells.

When you are ganking, look to hit enemies with your E Swirlseed as this will slow them down and make it easier to catch them. Alternatively if your team mate has better crowd control ability, let them know they should engage first and then follow them up.

When taking objectives such as Dragon, I recommend you seek assistance of your team mates. Lillia isn't the best in taking Dragons on her own. It is doable, but I wouldn't recommend it as something you should seek to do all the time. Only if you know you are safe for a while, only then you should look to solo a Dragon and even then you need to be at full health. You will also need to have Smite ready because you will get low on health while fighting a Dragon.
MID LANE RUNES
When it comes to playing Lillia in the mid lane, your main goal should be to support your team with damage. This is the reason I choose Electrocute mid as It gives that extra burst of damage when you go in to poke someone. Then when you back off and after a few seconds go back in you should have Electrocute off cooldown again. It fits Lillia's Hit and Run playstyle while also improving your damage output.
For the second I pick Taste of Blood, because the extra heal from it is quite nice and helps you sustain for longer in fights
When it comes to the 3rd row of runes, I find Eyeball Collection to be my go to choice. I don't find Ghost Poro to be particularily useful, but Zombie Ward could be good if you roam a lot and keep vision control of the map.
Ultimate cooldown reduction that you gain from Ultimate Hunter is really useful as your ultimate Lilting Lullaby is quite a strong team fighting and dueling ability. So having it up more often is always helpful.

Manaflow Band provides extra mana sustain that you will find helpful as you don't really build all that many mana items on Lillia. So going this rune is quite important.
When it comes to choosing between Transcendence or Celerity as I have mentioned previously, it comes down to your choice. For mid lane I prefer to have more cooldown reduction, thus I go Transcendence over Celerity most of the time.
  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • Armor or Magic resist depending on the matchup
MID LANE ITEMS
As a mid laner you want to do as much damage as you can to the enemy. Luden's Tempest is basically a mid lane version of Skirmisher's Sabre - Runic Echoes. It is a great item on Lillia as it gives you cooldown, damage and mana. All the things you want.
After you complete your Luden's Tempest I recommend going for Liandry's Torment next as it will boost your damage even further.
Depending on how your match is going and what type of enemy you are facing, you will choose either Banshee's Veil or Zhonya's Hourglass as your defensive item.
Every AP mid laner's dream item, the Rabadon's Deathcap is the best way to boost your damage and smack your enemies even harder. On Lillia this has the added benefit of improving your mobility too, thanks to your Q Blooming Blows passive, whos movement speed scales with Ability Power. Rabadon's Deathcap being the item that gives most Ability Power of any AP item, is a clear choice to go for.
Much like in any lane and as I already previously stated, choosing boots will always depend on the situation of your match. I recommend going Sorcerer's Shoes as a mid laner when possible, but if this is not the option, then go for defensive boots.
LILLIA MID LANE

When playing Lillia mid lane your goal, much like whit top lane, is not neceserilly to kill your laner all the time. It's more about keeping pressure on your lane and around the map.
Lillia is good at roaming due to her mobility and if you get really good at landing your E Swirlseed you might not even have to leave your lane in order to provide some surprise 🎱 💥 damage to enemy top lane or bot lane. You have the ability to stay relatively safe in most matchups (unless you are facing mobile assassins like we talked about)

ROAM ROAM ROAM

Roaming and providing assistance to your team mates can mean a lot. It can be a difference between them dying 💀 to barely surviving 🚑 thanks to your roam.
This is what good mid laners do, they make their team mate's game easier and help them shine.

VISION CONTROL

Knowing where your enemy is can be half the battle. If your enemy jungler for example walked over a ward on the top side and the dragon is up, you can ping your jungler then together go and take that dragon. Or knowing that enemy bot lane is left alone will because their team mates are too far away to respond to a dive.
FINAL WORDS
If you have made it this far and actually read my entire guide, congradulations!
I sincerely thank you for your time and really hope that my guide has helped you at least a little bit to learn something new about Lillia and League of Legends.

It is rare that people put this kind of effort to improve in something, especially in games. Most just turn to excuses and blaming random things or people, but not you. You have decided to take a different path, a path of self improvement! With such mindset it is only a question of "when?" will you reach your desired goal and not a question of "if" you will reach it.

Keep being amazing! I wish you the best of luck in Life and the Fields of Justice!

See you around, cheers 🍻
