Summoner Spells

FLASH: You can get good positioning for Demonic Ascension with it and also use Flash after using Death's Hand or after reactivating Demonic Ascension so the dmg goes out on the new position!
Ignite: makes your all-in stronger and your enemy laner will get you some kills early on!
Cleanse: It's only good for him to take if enemies got hard CC abilities that you need to prevent like Frozen Tomb but otherwise you don't have to take it because you become so tanky with Demonic Ascension.
Teleport: It's considerable for hard-matchups but I think Ignite helps better with that. Though the possible Teleport flanks and ganks are pretty strong!

  • Phase Rush: Swain is an ommobile champion but with this you can run down enemies, get close for for Death's Hand and also get away from ganks! You will also be resistent against slows which can effect some matchups very hard.

  • Nimbus Cloak: When activating Demonic Ascensionyou get 100 movement speed for 2.5 seconds, you can make great use of this by getting close to your enemies.

  • Celerity: You get extra base movement speed which Swain always likes because he is evry immobile but wants to stick to the enemy! The speed buffs from Phase Rush and Nimbus Cloak will also grant a lot of AP!

  • Gathering Storm: Games are being longer again with the changes in 8.13 so I think this is a better option than Scorch!

Corrupting Potion
Swain can win lane hard with Corrupting Potion, the movement speed from Time Warp Tonic, extra healing and mana gain are insane! Try to push and go base when your stacks on Corrupting Potion are gone and use the movement speed to your advantage!

Sorcerer's Shoes
Increases your damage against champions drastically.
With Sorcerer's Shoes you deal 12% more magic damage against enemies with 33 Magic Resistance. With Oblivion Orb it will be true dmg instead of 25% reduced.

Mercury's Treads
Against enemies with a lot of CC Mercury's Treads are a reasonable choice, don't only build it for the MR though, it's not too cost efficient!

Rod of Ages
Core item for Swain as it gives him everything he need after 10 minutes!

Build Oblivion Orb first and leave it with that for now. Finish Morellonomicon after other items as you build it only for the 15 magic penetration The stats gained from other items are much more valueable than the stats you gain from finishing Morellonomicon.
Only if the enemies have a lot of heals it would be worth to finish Morellonomicon early for the grivious wounds or if you don't have a lot of gold!

Rabadon's Deathcap
It's the most cost efficient item so Rabadon's Deathcap is highly recommended as 3rd or 4th item! Even Demonic Ascension's healing scales with AP and it gives Swain a lot of power! His Baron nashor damage will also increase.

Zhonya's Hourglass
It gives her the ability to stall out fights and heal a lot of health back by using a combination of Demonic Ascension and Zhonya's Hourglass! Try to use it it as you get slow and to dodge specific abilities like Death Sentence since you want to activate it anyway you can also make them waste a spell on you! You rather buy it for the active than for the stats.

Liandry's Torment
Great choice against tanks, since you deal %Max Health damage with it and also keep up the 10% extra damage buff on your abilities. Because of the slow from Vision of Empire and the root and knock back from Nevermove and Ravenous Flock Liandry's Torment's passive will deal doubled damage. With Demonic Ascension you will reapply it all the time and the 10% extra damage after 5 seconds in combat are guranteed for Swain!

Void Staff
I don't think it's a go-to item anymore though it's still powerful. If the enemy team builds some magic resistance on everyone then it's probably worth it. If they build a lot of MR you should probably build it earlier on, though Swain wants to get other items first.

Banshee's Veil
Build it against Mages that have a lot of burst and catch potential to survive and be able to heal up constantly! The spell shield is apperciated as it can safe you from spells like Death Sentence as you want to engage straight forward that ca nbe very useful.

Spirit Visage
Will increase your healing from Ravenous Flock and Demonic Ascension drastically and gives you very good stats against magic dmg heavy enemy teams! Build it only when the MR is paying off.

Early Game

Start with Nevermove at level 1 and try to all-in your enemy when he goes for CS! Don't use it when there are minions behind the enemy as it would hit them instead and stop there.
Hitting Nevermove will also allow you to use Ravenous Flock and proc Phase Rush so you can auto attack him down.
Especially later on when you got your other abilities, hitting Nevermove is a guranteed won trade, use this combo:

Use Death's Hand to push the wave but don't just use it all the time, you need to keep some mana! Killing enemies with Death's Hand grants some mana back, so try to push faster than your enemy by last hitting the minions with it! Prepare them with auto attacks before using it, so you kill as many as possible with one cast!

When you all-in your enemy with Demonic Ascension try to only auto attack when you are very close to him, you don't want to let him out of it! With the movement speed from Phase Rush and Nimbus Cloak he won't get away though! Only reactivate it when it's lethal damage and not as soon as possible, because then you would lose a lot of DPS and healing!

If he somehow manages to get away from you, use Demonic Ascension to push the wave and heal some health!

Mid Game and Teamfights

Use Vision of Empire to scout areas and like Baron Nashor , dragon or specific jungle camps to know where the enemy jungler is or was! Also gather Soul fragments from Ravenous Flock when hitting enemies, Demonic Ascension will consume all of them and deal damage equal to how many you've gotten! They will also lay around where enemy champions died, you have to pick those up by going close to them.

The best way to hit Vision of Empire on long range is to cast it whe nenemies have to walk into a small are and can't take another way (for example when they are being chased), or when they are beign cc'ed.

Try to adjust the boomerang effect from Nevermove by walking in the direction that you want it to hit as it will come back to you!

When using Demonic Ascension in teamfight's, try to stack it up on their front-line and then you can start threattening their backline, because you can one shot them by reactivating it, in combination with your other abilities.
Use Death's Hand to kill the front-line and increasing the damage by walking close to them, only go for the back-line when you got backup, when they are cc'ed and you can combo on them or when there is an opporunity to one shot with Demonic Ascension Flash Death's Hand

Spam rightclick on important targets when your teammates are about to cc them, so you can Ravenous Flock off on them. Be careful with it though it could mess up combos from your allies, for example Lux hits Light Binding on Ashe and you use Ravenous Flock on her, Lux could miss her Lucent Singularity by that!
