Champion Build Guide

[11.4] Best Xerath in Silver Guide

By ParkChnm
Who are you?

I'm ParkChnm.
Why Xerath?
Xerath is a very strong champion without any mobility. His range makes up for his lack of mobility since he can be out of harms way fairly easily. Xerath is very reliant on positioning to stay alive and deal tons of damage.

Pros
- High damage
- Extremely safe
- High range
- Burst
- Very little hard matches

Cons
- Bad if you can't land skillshots
- No mobility
- Low damage without items
- Squishy
How to Play
Early Game as Xerath
Focus on farming as with most champions. Poke when your Manaflow Band and Arcane Comet is up because that optimizes your mana usage. Don't push too hard or get stuck standing under your enemy's turret because you will most likely have to burn your summoner spells to escape.

Mid Game as Xerath
Continue to wave clear and try to keep your turret alive. Help your team with Herald or Dragon if possible. Stay in the backline in skirmishes and try to poke them down before going all in. When you're safe to finish everything off, use your ult to kill if necessary.

Late Game
Make sure that you're never in the frontline in fights and try to focus the ADC or Mid laner. Xerath has extreme damage output late game with enough items and you should be able to one shot any squishy with one combo. Just remember if you're too close, you will absolutely get one shot and die.
Summoner Spells
Summoner Spells
Flash is the summoner spell you take on almost all champions. Used to get out of danger or to get into range to stun with Shocking Orb or to secure a kill.

Barrier is usually the other summoner spell you take on Xerath. It's on a shorter cool down than Heal and it does better against Ignite due to not being reduced by Grevious Wounds.

Heal is good due to the movement speed boost and quick heal. Also it can heal allies, which makes it a good summoner spell in team fights. Ignite will reduce its healing effect however.

Cleanse is good against Mid laners with strong CC such as , , . Cleanse can also be taken if their enemy Jungler has hard CC such as or
Runes
Runes

Sorcery

Arcane Comet is easy to land and stronger than Aery

Manaflow Band Is easy to stack with Arcanopulse and Eye of Destruction. It gives more maximum mana and mana regeneration when fully stacked.

Transcendence is good so you can hit 45% CDR and throw out more abilities.

Gathering Storm Gathering Storm is good on Xerath because he scales hard late game with items so increasing his AP gain makes him scale even harder.

Absolute Focus is strong due to Xerath's ability to always be safe. Usually taken over Transcendence

Scorch is very strong due to Xerath's poke ability. Usually taken over Gathering Storm

Precision

With the new change to Presence of Mind, gain mana regeneration upon hitting an enemy, alongside it's original effect as well, I think it's a much better option to choose over the Inspiration Tree.

Probably the only other rune worth going on the Precision Tree since everything else doesn't have too much of an effect on Xerath.

Inspiration

You don't roam as Xerath often, only in very rare situations so Magical Footwear saves you 300 gold so you can purchase your other core items faster. Also gives enhanced movement speed, giving you slightly more than normal boots.

Cosmic Insight allows you to hit 45% CDR or gives you the 5% CDR for free if you aren't going to hit 45% anyways. Also allows your summoner spells to be on a shorter CDR.
Combos/Tips

E > W > Q

If you hit your Shocking Orb, it's basically a free Eye of Destruction and Arcanopulse.

W > Q

The slow given from Eye of Destruction will make it easier to hit Arcanopulse

Vision W

If you don't have a ward but need to check an area, Eye of Destruction gives brief vision of the area and can be used so you don't face check bushes.

Max Range Fog Q

If you charge Arcanopulse in the fog of war, you can hit your opponent (assuming you have vision of them) as soon as you come out of the fog.

Xerath Passive

Mana Surge can be used to gain back mana, works on clones such as Neeko or LeBlanc
