Lane phase

Basics

You usually want to start with Q. Use it to clear first 3 minions if you were leashing your jungler's camp or use it to harass enemy when he is aproaching minions trying to last hit. It deals extra bonus damage if it hits only a single target, but that happens very rarely during lane phase, mostly only if you are zoning the opponent from cs.
If you are sure you are going to hit your E (your opponent is already CCed when you are approaching him or smh) you can EQ combo him and get your passive proc on the very next auto attack.


Conqueror


Conqueror is an amazing rune for extended fights. This means, in basically almost every matchup, if you are running conqueror and enemy is not you will win extended fights, thanks to just the rune itself and your passive.
Do not get fooled tho, because against champions such as Fiora, Irelia etc. who are also running Conqueror, even tho your champ and rune choice is amazing for extended fights, you might lose those.


Wave clear

If you can proc your passive off of enemy champion, do that, ideally with using the abilities also on minions themselves, this way you push the wave the fastest way possible.
Otherwise, you want to tank and stack enemy cs on one place, EQ combo them and then finish them with AAs. Mordekaiser's wave clear is not great, not terrible.. 3.6 stars.


Using ultimate

If you are ahead and can kill anyone from the enemy team, you ideally want to R the strongest member of the enemy team, with hoping that you can kill him fast enough to also kill the other members of the enemy team when you come out of the oblivion before your team dies.

If on the other hand, you are really far behind, you can just ult the strongest member and let your team carry you, with lasting as much time in your ult as possible and sacrificing yourself.

You can also use your R to deny enemy from ability combos/rotations. Example: Irelia just landed R on all 4 of your teammates and is most likely about to kill them all even tho she is not that fed, you can R her and kill her in oblivion, with her ultimate already being gone and also saving your teammates.
This situation can happen very often, I hope this example gives you an idea of what kind of usage I mean.

Good item for closing the gap since all mordekaiser has are his feet, no dash or nothing besides when the flash is ready. Therefore this item is logically solid choice into teamcomps with many ranged champions and champions who can kite you. (good against many ranged champs overall)
Good choice against champions who can run away from you, it also makes hitting your skillshots easier. Once you proc your passive, you have a permanent slowing-field around yourself.
Great in meele matchups. Not a good idea against champs who can out-trade you in long fights, such as KogMaw or Fiora.
Good especially against tanky teamcomps, but always a good choice simply because of Liandry's numbers, it also fits Morde well because it's passive supports extended fights.
This item is a must have against teamcomps with multiple AD sources. You are an AD champion after all, and you might often struggle with surviving in teamfights. Your passive also keeps dealing damage while you are in Zhonya.
Great item for Mordekaiser. If enemy have at least one AP champ, go this item. It increases your healing greatly and gives you a great amount of defensive stats. You never wanna build Adaptive Helm if you don't have Spirit Visage yet.
If you are laning against smh like Yasuo or enemy team just has a lot of critical damage dealing champs (more than 1), this is great option. You can also use the Randuin's Active to slow enemy before you use your abilities to make them hit easier.
Viable option if enemy team has many AP champions and you already have smh. like spirit visage and you also want some additional damage.
If enemy teamcomp has many AD champions, you can go for THE armor item -> thornmail. You are a meele bruiser after all and this will greatly increase your lifetime in fights.
If enemy have a lot of healing, you might sometimes have to go for this item. But you usually don't want to until completely necessary just because there are far better items for Morde.


Boots

Greedy choice. As a meele you usually want some extra defensive stats, but if you wanna have fun and your team is really ahead you can go for these.
Most often choice in my experience, good if you are laning against AD or enemy adc is fed.
If you wanna run attack speed instead of tenacity in Precision Runes tree or if you simply want some additional tenacity because of enemies' unusual amount of CC / MR, you can go for these.
Make sure to not build way too many HP items such as rylai lynadri protobelt etc. if you are your main magic damage source. If you are very ahead, and your team's main magic damage source, feel free to buy Rabbadon :)
