By FrostbiteMW
Introduction
Hey, I'm FFrostbite and this guide is about my Zoe ! Im a high elo EUW streamer and player, often chilling in mid/high master since I dont play alot of soloq. I've played hundreds of games as Zoe and always perform well!

In this guide I'm gonna show you how to play her to climb easily in SoloQ!

You can find me streaming at my twitch channel. Say hi!

Pro and Con

Pros

insane burst
good against immobile champions
really high range
no counterplay to her oneshot
strong early/mid/late game
good roams

Cons

hard to play once behind
no escape spell
not the best at waveclearing
falls behind easily if ganked
hard to play
bad if enemys have alot of engage
Abilites

Passive - More Sparkles!
Zoe's next basic attack after casting a spell deals bonus magic damage.

Q - Paddle Star
Zoe fires a missile that she can redirect in flight. Deals more damage the longer it flies in a straight line.

W - Spell Thief
Zoe can pick up the remnants of enemy summoner spell and active item casts and cast them once herself. Whenever she casts a summoner spell, she gains 3 missiles that fire at the nearest target.

E - Sleepy Trouble Bubble
Causes the target to become drowsy, then fall asleep. The first source of damage that breaks the sleep is doubled, up to a cap.

R - Portal Jump
Blink to a nearby position for 1 second. Then blink back.
Ability Sequence

The most common levelling sequence for Zoe is the one I am using in this guide which follow Q>E>W>R. There are some variants to this skill sequence such as people putting more points in your W early, but I recommend this one.

You need flash. Thats all :) No discussion

Ignite
Ignite is good if you like to play really aggressive. I use it in matchups which are favoured for me, in which I have alot of solokill potential. With Ignite you can play aggresive early. If you poke the enemy down you can easily use Ignite to get movement speed from your W - Spell Thief. This way you can run the Enemy down, which makes it easier for you to hit your Q or E. Also try to roam or catch the enemy jungler, since you can easily oneshot people with Ignite ready.

Teleport
Teleport is a summoner for less aggressive people. Its super useful to get back to lane faster early, or to flank / help your team at ganks. People barely use it in soloq tho, since its normally a summoner for midlaners which want to split. As Zoe you want to perma poke down the enemys down tho, which is impossible if you are split.
Keystone Rune
Electrocute is the most aggresive choice and standard choice atm. It adds burst to your combo, which makes it way easier for you to get kills. You can also proc it in lane by autoattacking + using Q, but the Keystone has more use out of lane when you try to oneshot people.

Summon Aery is the second standard choice. Its way better in lane compared to Electrocute, but worse after lane when you try to oneshot people. I recommend going it when you really want to win lane. Just perma autoattack or Q the enemy and he wont be able to lane well. This way you can snowball early.
Starting Items
To start of the item section, let's dive into the starting items. You always start with Doran's Ring and Health Potion. After that here are your first major buys:

Sorcerer's Shoes
Sorcerer's Shoes is an insane early game item for you. I recommend rushing it before Lost Chapter if you dont have mana problems and if you want to roam alot. Its also good in lane for fast trades, as youre just faster than the enemy. The main strength is your gank and roam potential tho, which cant be matched with quick boots rush.

Lost Chapter
Lost Chapter is a must buy, since it provides you AP, mana and mana sustain in lane through its passive. You also need it to finish your first item.
General Items

Season 14 brought a huge mage item overhaul. The old mythic items got removed and new items got added. Theres several new ones which can be useful, such as: Luden’s Companion, Stormsurge or Cryptbloom. Some old items also got slightly changed. In this chapter I will talk about some important items.

There are some items which didnt change and which are still insane on Zoe. These are Void Staff, Rabadon's Deathcap and Shadowflame. The only new thing is that Shadowflame now makes your spells crit if the enemy target is below 35%. Your "crit" deals 20% bonus damage. I highly recommend building these items in most games after your core items. These core items are (order matters):

Luden’s Companion Luden’s Companion
Luden’s Companion is a new burst item which replaced the old Ludens. It has super good stats. It will be your go to first item. Its the only mana item you need and adds burst to your combo. I highly recommend building it.

Stormsurge
Stormsurge is new mage item. It provides AP, Magic Pen and Movement Speed. The passive is also super good. If you deal 35% of a champs health within 3secs you get a movement speed buff and after 2sec you deal bonus damage on the enemy. Against squishy champs that shouldnt be a problem with your full combo. Against tankier enemys it wont work, which is why you shouldnt build it against them. Otherwise it is a super good item and can be built. I recommend building it after Luden’s Companion.

After you finish boots, Luden’s Companion and Stormsurge I recommend building the items I mentioned earlier in this chapter ( Shadowflame, Rabadon's Deathcap and Void Staff). I also recommend this order. Other good item choices are:

Cosmic Drive
Cosmic Drive is a good item. It provides AP, Health, Ability Haste and Movement Speed. If you damage an enemy you get bonus movement speed, which can be super useful in teamfights. I recommend going it if the enemy team has a lot of CC and you need to dodge alot of spells.

Banshee's Veil
Banshee's Veil is a good item. It provides AP and MR. The bonus effect is a spell shield. Its super good against a few champs which want to open their burst combo with one spell. Examples are Annie (you would block her stun spell), Evelynn (you block her charm engage) or Karthus (you could block his ult).

Zhonya's Hourglass
Zhonya's Hourglass is really useful in games with assasins or hard CC. If the enemy team has alot of engage / lockdown I recommend building it 100%. This way it gets way harder to kill you. Its also really useful against assasins like Zed. I only recommend not building it if the enemys cant reach you and if you rather built more aggresive.

Lich Bane
Lich Bane is a good item if you can make use of your Passive autoattacks alot. This is the case if the enemy team has low range. You can still oneshot squishy champs with it and your poke combo deals way more damage with the Lich Bane autoattacks added.

Combos
Basic Poke

Sleepy Trouble Bubble > Paddle Star > Paddle Star

simply hit your E on the enemy. Afterwards aim your Q backwards and reactivate it forwards to hit your enemy from the max distance for max dps. This is your basic burst combo which you will use most of the time

Full Combo

Paddle Star > Paddle Star > Sleepy Trouble Bubble > Autoattack

start by using Q on the enemy. Walk up to him to guarentee a Q hit and an easier E hit. Try to cast E once youre in his meelee range and follow up with an autoattack once hes asleep.

Poke after Level 6

Paddle Star > Paddle Star > Portal Jump > Autoattack

basic poke - try to use it as often as possible. Be careful tho - youre easy prey if you do this combo in a bad position (enemies can engage on your ult cast point and you wont have an escape).

Tips

always Paddle Star > Paddle Star > Portal Jump, dont Paddle Star > Portal Jump > Paddle Star as it's easier for them to react to it

try to use your Portal Jump when the returning Paddle Star passes your body.

try to pick up and use your Summoners for free Spell Thief and More Sparkles! Damage
Wards

Level 1

Ward the enemy raptor camp at 1:20. This way you can track the enemy jungler early and avoid ganks.

In Lane

Ward at the Enemy's river entrance. This way you can see a part of the enemy jungle and a part of the river.

Control Wards

You want to either ward the brush in the river or next to your lane. This way your team can gank you easier.
Playstyle
IN LANE

Try to Poke Meelee Matchups with Paddle Star > Autoattack (1st hit) > Paddle Star (2nd hit) > Autoattack (3rd hit) for an easy Electrocute proc. Always try to push your lane with your Paddle Star Waveclear. After pushing try to roam bot or top. You can also sit in the sidebrush in midlane and try to hit your E.

Always try to poke the enemy mid as much as you can with Paddle Star. Once they are low you can easily Ignite them and Flash on them. They most likely will Flash away, but you can pick it up with Spell Thief and kill them.

If you hit your Sleepy Trouble Bubble and cant hit Paddle Star afterwards, just autoattack.

Place a ward in the deep river brush near the Herald or Drake. With it you can track the enemy Jungler and hit him with Sleepy Trouble Bubble when he passes.

Use youre Sleepy Trouble Bubble when youre out of the enemeys sight. Do that by shooting it through a wall. Then hit your Paddle Star.

MIDGAME / LATEGAME

Try to hit as many Sleepy Trouble Bubble as you can! Also try to poke with Paddle Star and Portal Jump from far, so that they cant do anything about it.

Youre most vulnerable after using your Combo and Portal Jump. Always be careful when using Portal Jump!

When you are late to a teamfight try to take advantage of your Spell Thief. Pick up as many Summoners as you can and use them. You can easily clean up fights without even hitting Q or E. Youre Passive and W damage are really high, especially when you buy Lich Bane
Conclusion
Be aggressive early game and poke!

Farm efficent!

Dont overforce / get caught!

Force your enemy to make mistakes!

Try to kill people with your Combos!

Roam and snowball other lanes!

Be the annoying piece of **** champ you are and oneshot everyone!
