[13.12] AP SHACO IS BACK! [MID LANE]

By TheChoz3nOne
Beginning
Hello guys, here it is Season 13 and new items here! I really enjoy new Statikk Shiv and that's why I'm here with a huge update on my guide. I'll try you to show why this should be new meta on AP Shaco Lane. Statikk Shiv actually buffs Shaco Lane and gives him what he didn't see since Season 10 - Wave clear. That wave clear is even better than Old Protobelt. You can splitpush and be so annoying moving from lane to lane. Even if you lose the lane you still wanna be annoying and you'll definitely gonna come back into the game.

This new playstyle is actually old - that's how we played Shaco before replacing Proto into Rocketbelt (that's just stat item nowadays with a useless dash).

In short, Statikk Shiv is a old protobelt + lich bane in one item. Actually it deals even more damage than Lich Bane while having the same 50% AP Ratio. If you got fed - you'll be a one-shot machine I swear. You're gonna have your late game powerspike so early that you'll one-shot every squish in the team. Boxes are deathtraps and outplay-tool against any problems. Boxes are not used for waveclear anymore - now only for defense so place it according to the plan.
Lane Strategy/Mid and Late Game
Max E first in Lane. Start your poke immediately as you see the enemy and wave going on to meet yours. Level 2 - Q. Q does insane crit damage when you hit backstab so actually one Q from behind is enoug to get your opponent really low. Then when you got your enemy under 40-30% HP you can go all-in and kill him after your abilities is up. They most-likely will try to play safe so we use Flash when we use Q. Then Q backstab crit and E to finish them off (if not critical Q strike then you have risk to die depending on your sit and that'll be the end for the lane phase in most cases for you).

That is your all-time lane strategy as we're actually playing AD Shaco there 'till we build Stattik Shiv and pretty much in mid game too. Look at builds of your opponent if they get Lethality then it means that you don't want to look forward for long trades as their lethality will punish you.

If you're behind and poke don't really work you can forget about E and start maxing W to hope that you can bait them to the boxes to equal your chances to kill them. If opponent's wave clear is slow and he is busy clearing the wave you should look for roaming opportunities but don't roam for too long if you're not sure that you'll get kill then immediately go back to lane to not lose experience and minion gold and you're actually supposed to defend your tower lol.

After building Statikk Shiv you will start clearing the waves and farm gold. Actually you will take your Rod (1st component of Deathcap) very fast as well as Deathcap itself so don't worry about costs and playability of this build and playstyle. After Deathcap you can build whatever you want. Tested, don't worry - if someone ping you on having Statikk then just ignore them - idiots won't understants as they think that if they never see something that isn't meta it's wrong, it's just an animals and you don't need to prove everyone that it works especially at low elo.

Mid/Late Game

You CS every minion wave you see and split-push. You can actually do whatever you want, you're effective in teamfights with your boxes and having some poke with E and some damage from Lich Bane+Statikk Shiv. But you're still better split-push to use your best qualities. Your work is to balance 2 things - understanding when you need to split-push/farm minion waves or teamfighting.
Stattik Shiv Interactions
To clear the wave while you need to AA the minion wave that is on their way to meet yours. Then you run around for next proc meanwhile last-hitting minions. For faster Statikk Shiv stacks you can Q into the space.

If you're fed and have many AP you can insta-clear the wave even with melee-minions.

Update: In 13.11 Shiv will be buffed so waveclear will become even more better.
About me
Hello, I am Johnny Bryant, Russian OTP Shaco Mid Player (previously Top). Top Lane is too hard and I think that on top lane there should be a place mostly for bruisers/tanks/someone who can tank... That's why I'm playing mid. Also mid is a little bit easier than Top Lane because of your enemies being squishies themselves.

Playing Shaco since Season 9, AP Shaco since Season 10, AP Shaco Top/Mid since Season 11 as permanent role (I played top Shaco before only for fun but since Season 11 I've decided to stop playing Jungle Shaco forever and concentrate only for Shaco Lane). My peak elo is Platinum. I'm sure I can take Diamond in this or next season for sure. I prefer to play from multiple accounts because many people ban Shaco that's why I'm forced to dodge to play Shaco on another account.
Examples of how this build work
First, let's look at what you can do. Actually, I lost the lane a little bit but with Statikk it was easy to come back into the game so I carried it in the end finishing off everybody

But let's check some Lane Tips for Shaco, as you can see here, I intentionally do not leave the lane knowing that enemy Fiora can try to get revenge on me for first death but I know that I have minions on my side that is why I'm not really afraid of her. This is still risky but that was high reward. After the second kill she didn't come back into the game I stomped her for 3-4 minutes.

Also do not underrate your AD... Well, actually Urgot killed my clone intentionally for some reason, actually he inted but I've decided to upload this here as well

Some Statikk SHiv + Liandry kill

And here it is some teamfight. For that time I still wasn't sure about build and was just experimenting and making it good look so despite having much AP I didn't play that confident but still played well in my opinion here. This Fiddle was pain in the neck though.

Here you can see 2 vids of me testing the damage with Statikk Shiv AP Shaco

One of my favourite - here I just created some safe territory for me making it safe for my teammates to bait them into my boxes while I proc Statikk Shiv into the minion wave to not let minions activate boxes (because boxes were reserved for enemy champs >3)

Double Kill without mythic item

When you got fed you can one-shot and out-duel anybody. Tanks won't be one-shot but with 2-3 boxes are killable when you have this much of gold
Afterword
I created this build and still learning the best from it. I'll give my best to put everything I know to this guide. This build DEFINITELY works despite Pink Ward saying that Statikk Shiv is bad on Shaco - I don't think so! Yes, build seem to be "for rich" but actually it is easy to farm. You build Statikk ASAP and then it's money generator that is scaling up into the mid and late game. Even without AP you have good wave clear and good AD damage. Q-crit is a nightmare for enemies (actually is also being the only damaging ability for AD Shaco). That's why this build WORK 100% it's all in your hands! You really need to be skilled to play Shaco Mid, even playing Shaco Jungle isn't enough! Train guys and play Shaco Mid - that's really fun. Hope they won't nerf Statikk too much either this guide is useless xD.

I tested this build on Plat-elo and it works. I actually can climb with that too. I play ONLY with that build that is my permanent build now.

Update: In 13.11 Shiv will be buffed so waveclear will become even more better. The clips that were in this guide were made in 13.10
Match-ups
Some of match-ups almost unplayable! I'm talking now about Pantheon as his abilities have more range than ours. He can use shield to ignore box damages and he won't let us poke him with our E because if we will even try to E a minion then he'll stun us and here we go - we have low hp.

Despite of having some danger of playing against like Pantheon I never ban him because he's rarely picked on mid. With Vlad it's much more simpler - he has too many healings (GW didn't really help then) and I've decided to not play against him in the middle of Season 12.

Diana is same as Pantheon but a little bit easier and at least I can poke her with E that's why I don't consider to ban her too. I wrote about her in 'Threats'.

With ranged champions you just E them and Q away.
