Hi Everyone, I am a Master Tier Jungler and Competitive player. I have played league since season 3 and peaked rank 50 so far in S11. I enjoy playing Viego, Stream on Twitch, and Make Youtube Videos. I have loved Viego since release and believe that if you learn this champion he can be extremely effective at taking over games in all elos.



Viego is a strong jungler because he has one of the healthiest clears in the game and wants to abuse that to win a scuttle fight after clearing 5 camps to get level 4. Viego wants to path to his strongest lanes and fight with them. A standard clear will look like:

Blue Sentinel > Gromp > Wolves > Raptors > Red Brambleback > Scuttle > Gank/Reset/ Krugs

Or

Red Brambleback > Raptors > Wolves > Blue Sentinel > Gromp > Scuttle > Gank/Reset

In general, there is no one best way to build Viego; however, the Goredrinker into Sterak's Gage build ensures that he is able to survive long enough to get his ultimate off. Viego thrives in fights where he is able to get resets and abuse his passive.

If you are against a squishy team the best items are Goredrinker or Galeforce if you are really ballsy you can also go Eclipse for the montage highlight plays. Just be careful because you will be significantly squishier.

If you are against a lot of tanks you can still go Goredrinker but you can also consider Kraken Slayer or Trinity Force to help you deal with their high HP.

If you need help gap closing you can go Stridebreaker. This can help you lockdown hard to hit champions like Lillia or Ezreal.

Now, how do we play Viego?

In the mid game Viego wants to play around his 1/2 item spikes with Kraken Slayer Blade of the Ruined King to find fights where someone dies quickly. Look around the map to find lanes where your team has advantages and force fights around them.

Viego wants to find fights where he can Burst an enemy by using Kraken Slayer Blade of the Ruined King and his passive on his Q to heal himself. Use Harrowed Path on nearby terrain to gain movement speed and attack speed. Finally utilize Viego's Passive to take over other champions. With most champions look to use one quick rotation of their spells and quickly use your free reset of Heartbreaker.

Once you make it to late game Viego performs very well in fights. By combining reset after reset on Heartbreaker from Viego's Passive he can take over a fight entirely. Try to let your team engage and play to cleanup the first kill and use Heartbreaker resets to win the fights.

There are a number of ways to play Viego in lane, here is the quick guide for the three most prevalent ways.

TL/DR: Take Conqueror Triumph Legend: Tenacity Coup de Grace and Taste of Blood Ravenous Hunter with Attack Speed, AD, and Armor/MR

Build Options:

Bruiser (Most consistent): Goredrinker Plated Steelcaps OR Mercury's Treads Sterak's Gage Blade of the Ruined King Spirit Visage Guardian Angel (Can go Death's Dance if vs heavy AD).

Burst: Galeforce Berserker's Greaves The Collector Infinity Edge Mortal Reminder (There is so much healing in the game its rare that this item isn't worth it) Guardian Angel. Can replace Mortal Reminder with Ravenous Hydra or Blade of the Ruined King

Consistent Damage: Kraken Slayer Berserker's Greaves Blade of the Ruined King Sterak's Gage Wit's End Guardian Angel. Kraken Slayer works extremely well with the Passive of Viego's Q to proc faster similar to Lucian.

With builds you generally want to go Goredrinker or Galeforce if the enemy is easy to kill and go Kraken Slayer if vs. a lot of tanks. You can also consider Stridebreaker if the enemy is extremely hard to get on top of.

I made this laning guide by watching Vods of the best Viego players and talking to my high elo friends who play mid/top.

In general, Viego will always max Q first and then E second. This is because the CD reduction and attack speed increase from more points in E is well worth the trade off of less damage on W. The only time this will change is if you are on a heavy AD team and then enemy team is stacking armor. W max second is then justified because it does a decent amount of magic damage.


Early Laning: Viego want's to abuse his Q's passive to sustain in early laning and take long trades against his opponent. Basically if Viego is not bursted in a fight he can sustain back to full through using his abilities and auto attacking minions. Play lane to push advantages in extended fights but be aware that Viego's strength comes from teamfights.

In teamfights make sure that you are participating in an early kill and ensuring you can use your passive Soverign's Domination to take an opponents soul. Once you have taken an enemy's soul you should be looking to get one rotation of their abilities off and then instantly use Heartbreaker looking for resets and another enemy's soul.

You can't use Heartbreaker for 1.5 seconds after taking over someone else's soul

Viego Can use his Q to animation cancel his empowered auto attack which can do a surprising amount of burst damage quickly. Here is a video of this being done. Learning to do this is absolutely necessary to maximize burst damage and surprise your enemy.

If you take Annie's Soul you get her stun stacked immediately

DO NOT TAKE Sion's Soul, its a huge bait because it spawns you on top of his passive with no movement abilities for 1.5 seconds. Sion's death passive does 10% max damage on each auto so he will kill you before you can use Heartbreaker again.

DO NOT TAKE Kled's soul as you spawn with extremely low HP.

Currently if Viego take's Ornn's Soul past level 14 he can upgrade his teammates items. Abuse this before it gets patched.

Keep track of your Goredrinker's cooldown when you are possessing other champion's souls, once you're back to Viego Goredrinker can give you a surprising heal to keep going in fights.
