It really depends on Gangplank, but good Gangplank is basically not winnable at all. Use your Q at his barrel and use E so that he can't melee or stay around it.
Cassiopeia
Try your best to land your Q, and try not to use E towards her until your jungler comes. Use it before she uses W.
Jax
I hate Jax the most when I play Ornn because he can block your Brittle-AA combo. He splits better and wins you even when he's behind. It's kinda pointless for your jungler to gank, so if he does, then give kills to jungler, not yourself. Personally, I still take Grasp of the Undying, so that I can sustain in lane and be more threatening than taking Unsealed Spellbook. I'm also researching on Aery/Comet against Jax.
Darius
Another guy who's really strong in lane. Take Unsealed Spellbook against Darius.
Akali
Very annoying in lane, but note that she has long cooldowns on W and E early. Land your Q as many times as possible.
Braum
He blocks your ultimate with his shield, and it's pretty annoying. Use your ult when he uses his shield wall. Use it when it is gonna end instead of using it the moment it ends, because Ornn's ult isn't immediate. I don't use ult when Braum is around, so I try to use my ult on a single target.
Aatrox
Although you can block his W pull with your W, his sustain in lane is really good. It's very tricky to solo kill him because of his ult, Conqueror and lifesteal. Wait for your jungler to gank, try not to get hit by his Q combos and don't get hit by his W or try not to waste your W on his W to block airborne from his Q.
Camille
Super annoying. I would rate her 4.5, because she's not Extreme, but she's not a major threat either. She scales well like Ornn, and her Q deals true damage, so it's quite hard. She can block your Q-E combo by using E on your Q. You can trade against her when her passive shield runs out, or when she wastes her E. Try not to get close to her when you ult, because she can ignore your ult with her ult. Your W doesn't stop her from ulting you!
Kled
It really depends on how good enemy Kled is, but usually it's quite tricky. Try not to push lane against him, and fight him when his W disappears.
Aphelios
When Aphelios builds Kraken Slayer, it can be quite tricky. People might think that Ornn goes well against ADCs that have no mobility, but (1) they usually have supports that can boost this kind (e.g. Lulu, Karma, Nami), and (2) Aphelios can increase movement speed with Severum active. His damage output is really high when he builds Kraken, so try to fight him when he wastes his Severum/Crescendum.
Quinn
I would rate her 3.5, because this kind of ADCs coming Top lane are very gank prone. Her way to win the game is by (1) winning lane with Ignite, and (2) roaming and splitting crazily. Simply, just don't trade against her early, and only throw your Q. If she can't block your E, she's a bad Quinn so you can easily win her. If she blocks your E with her E, then that's not a bad Quinn so take note of it. Don't give her range to E you when you ult against her.
Caitlyn
Her damage output late game is really good, but early-mid game is easy. Her trap/E passive attack is quite painful and you can't block her passive shot with your W. Also, you still get trapped for awhile even when you use W. Be wary of her traps all the time.
Ekko
Ekko can avoid your ultimate and Q-E combo with his E. Any mobile champion is hard for Ornn.
Ashe
Again, she slows you down indefinitely. Try to block her ult with your W.
Elise
She's painful.
Gwen
Gwen isn't very easy as Ornn to fight against, because of her Conqueror stacks and true damage in the middle of her Q's cone, like how Sett works. She can also avoid your Q-E combo with her E dash that can jump over the wall. Her late game is also quite good. Always try to get close to her when you wanna ult on her, so she can't block with her W. Do not prolong trade against her! Land your Q and W on her when she gets close to you, then E away from her.
Cho'Gath
Block Cho'Gath's Q with your W, and it won't slow you down. Note that he can replenish HP and MP from eating minions. His E damage is kinda painful too, so solo killing him can be a little tricky.
Anivia
People might think that it's easy to go against her as Ornn, because you can break wall with Ornn's E. However, by the time when you use E to Anivia, it's usually when you (1) run away from her, or (2) when she gets hit by your Q. Therefore, best method is to get as close to her as possible, so that she will get airborne when she walls to separate herself and you. When you land your ult while she's ulting, it'll stop her from ult, and it'll be quite easy to kill her afterwards. She has no mobility, and her movement speed is quite slow, so it should be doable.
Qiyana
You won't meet her at Top lane a lot, but she's really annoying. Just like how Akali goes into her shroud, she play similarly and pokes you indefinitely. However, you sustain better so it's kinda even on lane, as long as you don't trade against her long. Her Electrocute burst damage isn't very powerful late game. Try not to get hit by her ult, or even if you do, use your W to block it. Check your map constantly.
Yasuo
Even though he can block your ultimate with his wall, Yasuo can't really do much once you build Bramble Vest and Bami's Cinder. Use your ultimate when he's not around in the enemy team, or when he uses his wall, or make your ult unpredictable with your flash or movement speed boost.
Yone
Just like Yasuo, Yone got this brotherhood thing such that he's not so good against Ornn either. You can block his 2nd Q with your W, and his ultimate can be blocked too. Try to go near him during teamfight such that when he uses ult to run away or towards your ADC, you can block him while you don't get airborned by his ult.
Singed
His W can block you from ulting, like how Cassiopeia's W works. You can counter this by using your 2nd ult earlier or flash ult, because there is a delay when he uses W.
Dr. Mundo
Things to take note: his W increases Magic Resist, and his Q deals max. health AP damage against you. However, he's not as useful as Ornn in teamfight because he has no hard CC. Just try to airborne him when he gets close to your ADC, and keep using your W towards him. Thornmail is a must item to build against him.
Bard
You can block Bard's ultimate with your W.
Draven
No mobility ADC, and he can't deal lots of damage against you late game. Kraken on Draven is inefficient. It would be nice to block his E with your W, but it's not necessary. Remember to do this when you ult towards Draven.
Fiddlesticks
Since Fiddlesticks' Q fear is a targeted projectile, you can kinda see him fearing you, so you can block it with your W. You can stop him from using W with Brittle-AA combo. Keep getting near this guy, and it's always nice to block his fear.
Jayce
Kinda easy, but just be wary of him using hammer form E when you use your ultimate. It's kinda hard in lane if he can land his Q-E combo and use his hammer form E when you use your E. Yet, don't worry - most Jayce players aren't this skilled! You can land your ult in teamfight late game and he can't do anything then.
Annie
Block her stun with your W.
Blitzcrank
You can block his Q with your W. You have no shield for Blitzcrank to break with his ultimate. It's easy when you play against Blitzcrank in the enemy team.
Aurelion Sol
I've not seen any player who's actually good in Sol. Unless Sol is gonna get buffed, you can easily win Sol when you land your Q, and landing other combos.
Alistar
Alistar's W-Q combo can be blocked when you use W. You can deal max health damage with your W against Alistar as well. Just be wary of him coming towards you when you ult.
Brand
Although Brand's damage is quite high, he can't land CC (and even if he does, you can block with your W when Brand uses Q) properly, so your presence would be threatening to him. He has no mobility so it's gonna be easy because this guy's sustain isn't that great.
Amumu
Most of the Tank champions are easy to fight against as Ornn. Try to proc Brittle when his Aftershock disappears.
Azir
Azir would have been threatening last time when he had high DPS. Now he isn't. You can break his wall, and block his Airborne combo with your W as well.
Jarvan IV
You can break Jarvan's wall with your E. You can also block Jarvan's E-Q combo with your W.
Kai'Sa
She can use her ult to run away from your ult, and she can use E to run away from Q-E combo/ult. It's really tricky against her, so just get close to her during teamfight and apply Randuin's Omen effect first, then land your Q and W on her.
Kayle
She scales super well, so the best option is to kill her before she reaches 11. I take Grasp of the Undying to go strong in lane against her. If not, it can get really difficult late game. Try not to get hit by her Q. At Level 3, you don't have to do Q-E combo, but you can E towards her and land your Q and W and proc Grasp of the Undying. It's tricky later when she builds BOTRK and Berserker's Greaves. Her W makes it hard for you to land Q-E combo/ult.
Illaoi
You can actually tank her damage! It's not very difficult once you build Thornmail. Always be wary of her E, and even if you get hit, don't panic! Remember that her tentacles don't multiply when you get near to a tentacle that's already formed. Try killing her pre-6. When she uses ult, E away from her instead of fighting her. Then, she can't do much against you already. She's gank prone so ask for your jungler. You don't have to win her in lane, but even winning her in lane is possible, because she can't always land E on you. She can't avoid from your Q-E combo/ult.
Garen
I would rate Garen 3.5, because good Garen players are actually hard to win as Ornn. Garen's skillset kinda counters Ornn, but somehow you can easily win Garen. I always take Grasp of the Undying against Garen. This is how you play against him: when he gets close to land his Q on you, use your W before he lands it on you. Then, as soon as his Silence disappears, land your Q, proc your Grasp of the Undying + Brittle-AA, then E away from him, as he spins with his E. Always use your Brittle-AA combo when his shield runs out after he uses his W. Be wary of him when he builds Berserker's Greaves + Stridebreaker, because these items are meant to solo kill you (usually Garen gets Ignite too). Once you get solo killed by him, it's gonna be quite tricky. It's better to go even against him if you can't win him. Try to get rid of his passive by using your W./ This is because Garen can avoid your Q, and it should be used defensively against Garen, because his Q can remove Slow from your Q. He can't come near you when you use W to him. Do not fight him when his Conqueror stacks are full. Also, don't give him distance to Silence you when you ult, because you can't recast ult when he silences you.
Fizz
Wait for him to waste his E, and block his ult Airborne with your W. E away from his when he Q towards you. You sustain better than this guy, so keep landing your Q on him.
Gnar
Gnar can bully you in lane when he's in Gnar form. When he jumps in Mega Gnar form, don't be scared and use W at him, because he'll most likely use W/ult. This is because when he does this and fails, he has no jump so you can ult at him after this. You can deal lots of damage against Gnar with your W, even when he's in Mega Gnar form. My advice is to take Grasp of the Undying so that he can't get near you even when he's in normal Gnar form. Plus, try not to do Q-E combo on him because he will E towards you when you waste it. It deals lots of damage against you when this happens. You can kinda block him from jumping when you ult, so always get close to Gnar when you ult, rather than using it from far distance.
Sion
Although you can block his Q and ult with your W, it can be quite tricky to fight against him. His Q can be a little tricky, so you must time your W well and play mind game with him. Even when he uses W to get shield up, always proc your Brittle so that he can't outtrade you when he bursts shield on you. Keep procing your Grasp of the Undying because he scales well. Remember that you can block his ultimate when you're close to him. When he uses ult first to fight against you, use your W to block it and run away with your E. In this way, he can't airborne you with his Q, so his ult will go to waste.
I managed to climb to Diamond in EUW with Ornn, and it's been really satisfying to see how my last season champion is still working in current season as well.
I'm now Platinum LOL
Ornn has always been that tank champion that wins almost all of the tank champions with his Brittle state; however, Ornn had a few nerfs last season, like + 1 level upgrade, increased mana on W, and its damage. It's not as OP as last time, but it can still be wonderfully used, if you can play him properly.
Faerie Charm?
YES. THIS IS THE HIDDEN GEM I'VE FOUND!
1. Why do you build Faerie Charm on Ornn?
Remember: Ornn can build items outside base, which is a unique passive skill that only Ornn can perform in League of Legends. You should be able to manipulate this in order to play him properly.
2. How do you play this Faerie Charm Ornn?
UPDATED PROCEDURE (11.19 Patch)
1. Buy Doran Shield and 1 Health Potion.
2. Build Faerie Charm in lane.NOTE: DO NOT upgrade to Forbidden Idol. It's forbidden for Ornn, because it Ornn has no heal (only minimal amount from Grasp of the Undying). Mana regeneration rate remains the same, so there's no reason to upgrade it.
3. Why are you playing Ornn this way?
Problem with Ornn was that, his early laning phase is hard due to his mana consumption. I wanted to find a way to counteract to this by purchasing Sapphire Crystal at Level 1 and upgrading it to Glcial Buckler for Frozen Heart or Zeke's Convergence, without the intervention of runes, like Manaflow Band, as Biscuits are too good for Ornn.
However, this item build path had issues:
- You're not regenerating Mana, so you'll run out of it later.
- Frozen Heart or Zeke's Convergence are situational items, and they're not that good on Ornn.
- Glacial Buckler takes 900G, and that's expensive!
In the end, I decided not to take this route, and while playing Ornn with mana running out, I was watching this previous season KR Challenger Maokai OTP, building Faerie Charm as first item.
Then, I got inspired and tried building it TODAY as my first item, and realised this is a super HOT item for Ornn, since Ornn can build items outside!
You can also upgrade it to a support item as they suit really well in current meta, because tanks in this season are not as OP as last season.
Therefore, building cheap support items for your ADC are really considerable (and that's how you should play Ornn too, not just a mere tank). Redemption or Mikael's Blessing are good support items, and they can be upgraded from Faerie Charm.
Both items give 100% base mana regeneration, which are exceptionally suitable for Ornn! They're also only 2500G, and this really is something.
4. Mikael or Redemption?
Personally, I find Redemption better, although it doesn't give any good for Ornn, other than 200 Health. This isn't an attractive element, but the fact that you can heal allies and deal damage to enemies is something. It's really powerful during teamfight!
Mikael's Blessing gives 50 Magic Resist, and this is useful for Ornn's passive and extra damage for E. 50 Magic Resist might sound small, but even Abyssal Mask/Force of the Nature/Gargoyle Stoneplate only give 60 Magic Resist each. Together with Ornn's passive that increases Armor/Magic Resist and Conditioning rune, this item is really good to go.
Use it on your ADC when he/she is somehow out of position! You can also use it on yourself like QSS, but remember that it is like Cleanse spell, so it won't remove CCs like Suppress.
