Abilities

Passive - Clockwork Windup
Orianna's autoattacks deal additional magic damage every hit. This amount increases every 3 levels. Subsequent attacks on the same target within 4 seconds will add 20% more damage per hit. This bonus stacks up to two times.

Q - Command: Attack
Orianna commands her ball to move to an area, dealing magic damage to surrounding enemies and to enemies it passes through. Deals 10% less damage per enemy hit.

W - Command: Dissonance
Orianna commands her ball to emit an electric pulse, dealing damage to units around it. Afterwards, the ball leaves a field behind for 3 seconds that speeds up allies and slows enemies for 2 seconds.

E - Command: Protect
Passive: The allied champion the ball is attached to gains bonus armor and magic resistance.

Active: Orianna commands her ball to fly to and attach onto an allied champion, dealing damage to enemies it passes through and shielding the allied champion 2.5 seconds for when it arrives. If the ally dies while holding the ball, it drops to the ground.

R - Command: Shockwave
Orianna commands her ball to emit a shockwave after a short delay, flinging affected enemies in the vicinity into the air a set distance (350 units) towards, and possibly over, her ball.
Ability Sequence

The most common levelling sequence for Orianna is the one I am using in this guide which follow Q>W>E>R.

Teleport
Teleport is my standard Summoner at the moment. It helps you get back to your lane after your first back, which is helpful since youre often being pushed in early. Afterwards you can use it to help your team when they get ganked. I really like it because I love to split on the sidelane to build a CS and XP lead and with Teleport I can join fights whenever I want.

Ignite
Exhaust is a good defensive summoner spell. Its good against assasins which want to oneshot you. Use it if they want to jump on you and burst you. This way you wont die and its way more likely for you to kill them.

Barrier
Barrier is also a good defensive summoner spell vs assasins. Take it vs champs like Zed, Qiyana or Talon. It helps you survive their burst combo.

Cleanse
Cleanse is a good defensive summoner spell vs heavy CC. I dont really like going it, but it can be useful in lane vs champs like Zoe.
Keystone Rune
Summon Aery is my go to Keystone. It helps you both in attack and defense. Since youre perma hitting enemys with autoattacks and your Q in lane it will proc really often, making your lane easier.

Phase Rush is in my opinion the second best choice. It provides less lane pressure, but is super useful in chase situations or in teamfights. You can easily proc it with your combo - the bonus movement speed helps you dodge spells in teamfight or reach their backline easier.

First Strike is decent against meelee champions in lane. With your range advantage you can perma proc it and gain bonus gold in lane, which helps you snowball more.
Starting Items
To start of the item section, let's dive into the starting items. You always start with Doran's Ring and Health Potion. After that your next major buy next to boots is:

Lost Chapter
Lost Chapter is your first item. It is really useful in lane since it provides you AP, mana and mana sustain in lane through its passive. You finish your first item next.
General Items

Season 14 brought a huge mage item overhaul. The old mythic items got removed and new items got added. Theres several new ones which can be useful, such as: Malignance, Luden’s Companion, Stormsurge or Cryptbloom. Some old items also got slightly changed. In this chapter I will talk about some important items.

There are some items which didnt change and which are still insane on Orianna. These are Void Staff, Rabadon's Deathcap and Shadowflame. The only new thing is that Shadowflame now makes your spells crit if the enemy target is below 35%. Your "crit" deals 20% bonus damage. I highly recommend building these items in most games after your core items. These core items are (order matters):

Luden’s Companion Luden’s Companion
Luden’s Companion is a new burst item which replaced the old Ludens. It has super good stats. It will be your go to first item. Its the only mana item you need and adds burst to your combo. I highly recommend building it.

Stormsurge
Stormsurge is new mage item. It provides AP, Magic Pen and Movement Speed. The passive is also super good. If you deal 35% of a champs health within 3secs you get a movement speed buff and after 2sec you deal bonus damage on the enemy. Against squishy champs that shouldnt be a problem with your full combo. Against tankier enemys it wont work, which is why you shouldnt build it against them. Otherwise it is a super good item and can be built.

After you finish boots, Luden’s Companion and Stormsurge I recommend building the items I mentioned earlier in this chapter ( Shadowflame, Rabadon's Deathcap and Void Staff). I also recommend this order. Other good item choices are:

Liandry's Torment
Liandry's Torment is another super good item. It provides AP and Health, which is good. It's passive provides you a %Health damage DoT + a 2-6% damage increase. Its super easy for you to stack and use, since your spells have low CD. Its useful in almost every game, especially in games vs tanks tho.

Seraph's Embrace
Seraph's Embrace is also a good item choice. If you want to build it I recommend building Tear of the Goddess on your first back tho. If you build it I recommend you to skip building Luden’s Companion.

Cosmic Drive
Cosmic Drive is a good item. It provides AP, Health, Ability Haste and Movement Speed. If you damage an enemy you get bonus movement speed, which can be super useful in teamfights. I recommend going it if the enemy team has a lot of CC and you need to dodge alot of spells.

Banshee's Veil
Banshee's Veil is a good item. It provides AP and MR. The bonus effect is a spell shield. Its super good against a few champs which want to open their burst combo with one spell. Examples are Annie (you would block her stun spell), Evelynn (you block her charm engage) or Karthus (you could block his ult).

Zhonya's Hourglass
Zhonya's Hourglass is really useful in games with assasins or hard CC. If the enemy team has alot of engage / lockdown I recommend building it 100%. This way it gets way harder to kill you. Its also really useful against assasins like Zed. I only recommend not building it if the enemys cant reach you and if you rather built more aggresive.
Matchups

Orianna is a major lane bully. Generally speaking she doesnt have bad matchups in early lane. Her only major counter is high range, but most poke mages only get their strength in midgame. Just try to be as agressive as you can in all lanes and build an advantage.

Combos
General Poke Combo

Command: Attack > Command: Dissonance > Command: Protect

start with a quick Q on the Enemy, followed by an instant W, Autoattack and instand E. This will proc Phase Rush which makes sure that the enemy laner cant trade back since you can run away.

All In

Command: Attack > Command: Dissonance > Command: Shockwave > Command: Protect > Command: Attack

Is similar to your Poke Combo. Start off with a quick Q into W. Follow by ulting the enemy - make sure he gets dragged towards you (ball should be between him and you). Follow with an E into another Q. Dont forget to Autoattack inbetween for maximum damage output!

Ult Flash

Command: Shockwave > Flash

this can be used to surprise the enemy. Make sure the ball is on you - begin by casting your R and instantly flashing to where you want the ult to be. This way the enemy has little to no reaction time and you still have Q and W for a damage combo afterwards. (This is perfect if you have Zhonyas for your own safety afterwards)

Faster Ball Return

Command: Protect > Command: Attack

If your ball is miles behind you and you want to move it infront of you its faster to first use E and use Q afterwards. If you only use Q the ball will be too slow and the enemy can react in time.

Use an allied engage as Ultimate Setup

Command: Protect on engage player > Command: Shockwave

If you arent confident enough in your own Ultimate skills you can rely on your teammates - if you have an engage champion.
For example if you have a Malphite on your team, you can E him and wait for him to Ultimate ( Unstoppable Force ) the enemy team, which makes it super easy for you to land your Command: Shockwave
Wards

Level 1

Ward the enemy raptor camp at 1:20. This way you can track the enemy jungler early and avoid ganks.

In Lane

Ward at the Enemy's river entrance. This way you can see a part of the enemy jungle and a part of the river.

Control Wards

You want to either ward the brush in the river or next to your lane. This way your team can gank you easier.
General Playstyle
IN LANE

Try to be aggresive in lane. Use your Q Command: Attack and your W Command: Dissonance to harrass the enemy laner. It is best to not use your abilities on the minions since you can run out of mana, so only do it if he hardpushes.
Try to always have the Ball near the enemy laner, around the caster minions so you can easily hit him if he goes too far.

Try to pressure the enemy laner and work with your jungler to get picks on the enemy mid or jungler. Try to either roam or freeze the wave so you get a lead on the enemy laner.

MID GAME

After laning phase you can go to the sidelane and continue farming while your botlane/jgl stays midlane. If you have Teleport you can always join your team for teamfights - if you dont have it always be rdy to join them!
Orianna is super good in the sidelane since she is super good in 1v1. Continue gaining experience and farm there to get even stronger.

In teamfights you want to stay safe and wait for the perfect opportunity to use Command: Shockwave. Either use it to protect your Backline by using it on the enemy tanks, or use it to burst the enemy carries in their Backline.

LATE GAME

In late game you can be the gamechanger. Try to hide in fog of war and catch people with your ultimate. Free kills can win games, so dont be too shy to use your ultimate.
Try to assasinate the enemy carries and focus on ulting them in late game teamfights. If you have Zhonyas and Flash you can look for super aggresive Ultimate Flashes and then using zhonyas - your team should be able to peel for you afterwards, but always be careful when doing that.

Also use your Ball to Zone the enemy team, if you put it in tight zones they shouldnt be able to walk up because of the danger to get ulted.
Conclusion
Play aggresive early game!

Use your early game lead to snowball!

Try to catch as many people as possible with your ult!

Be a backbone and major carry in teamfights!
