My name is Freddy and I have been making guides for over a decade starting back before the Fiora re-work when I was challenger. Now over time I have taken the game a little more casual but have kept up with current trends and changes. Welcome My Monkey Players!

In this guide I will go over Wukong's the laning phase, do's and dont's, Teamfights and his potential & tips and tricks. Remember if you are interested in watching the video you can do so over on timnfreddy on youtube or watch us play daily on twitch.

First off lets get started with what Wukong]IS capable off & what he is NOT capable of;

Pro's Hard Engage Nimbus Strike Solo Carry Potential Easy early game bully with Crushing Blow Crowd Control heaven with Cyclone Catch up mechanic with Nimbus Strike Easy & fun plays with Warrior Trickster

Con's Can fall behind if camped! Fairly Squishy for a bruiser Counterable with CC Can be kited

Now ofcourse these are my observations whilst playing Wukong! I have found little workarounds in all situations, which is why the guild is split in Tanky Monkey and Aggressive Monkey. When you see your team lacks the necessary tanks you will want to run tank monkey and when you see you have enough then you will want to run Aggressive Monkey. Now again both of these have their own play style and rules for playing them. Below I will provide you with both runs in depth.

So when do we play tanky monkey?

Well we will want to play a tanky monkey when one of 2 things happens

1 Your team lacks tanking and or engage potential
2 When your enemy is someone who hard counters you and/or you know you can not win lane.

When starting the Tanky build you will want to start with a Doran's Ring as it goes well with your passive Stone Skin which will allow you to heal. Now just because we go tanky does not mean we don't have to do damage. Which means we will still buy a Tiamat for both laning/farming & enemy damage. This does mean you will forfeit lane controll and freezing due to the aoe damage. So if you really can't afford to push lane you will want to go for a Phage and depending on wether you are laning vs a AP or AD you will want Mercury's Treads vs AP or Ninja Tabi vs AD. Either one will be followed by your Black Cleaver & either a Thornmail vs AD or a Spirit Visage vs AP

So when do we play Aggressive Monkey?

Well Aggressive monkey is played when one of 2 things happens.

1 When you KNOW you can take on your enemy laner and get fed
2 When your team seems to lack the necessary damage lane.

When starting the Aggressive build you will want to run Doran's Blade as a starting item as it will allow you to both lifesteal but also provide a nice amount of damage early game. Remember the name! You are an Aggressive Monkey it is your job to bully and destroy whoever you play against! You can run Electrocute to provide a nice 3 attack damage setup with your E.

So when do we play Aggressive Monkey?

Wukong is an incredibly strong top laner with amazing lane bullying potential. He can force out just about any champion and dominate top lanes against non tanks. When laning with wukong make sure to size up your opponent, if you are going up against a "teemo" you will want to run agressive and use your gap closer to dominate lane.

Aggressive Options

is an exceptional item that will provide you with an amazing amount of lifesteal and is core on any aggressive build and also the tank one. Although normally for the tank build I would run

is again a amazing for life steal and is great for the aggressive. This will allow you to retain your active and you will see the life steal is ridiculous.

Black Black cleaver is used because it will help your team out immensly when you lower all targets struck by your ults armor to next to nothing. However when running I would'nt go for this item but rather rush my or exchange it for a

is a must towards mid & late game because you will become the target of fights and the death timer will allow you to take out one more backlines. is an alternative to this in case you want more health

is a Wonderfull item to have to extra life steal on your ult and combining this with will show you how unkillable your monkey can be.

Tanky Options

one of the choices for your hp heavy monkey! it combines nicely with

Is huge on the tank monkey, it will allow you to counter most AD heavy comps and will make the enemy adc think twice about focusing you down.

Is your anti Ap item, it both provides nice health regen which works wonders with wakings passive it also works wonders with and Ravenous. Defiantly a must have

For Summoners it again depends on wether you will be running Agressive, Passive or ofcourse jungle.

Agressive Monkey: Will always want to run for either backline engages or an extra getaway other then your Nimbus Strike. As a second spell I run

Tanky Monkey: Will always want to run for either backline engages or an extra getaway other then your Nimbus Strike. As a second spell I run due to the fact that I will focus more on being in teamfights for objectives.


Tanky Monkey will want to run & if you want to run an agressive tank you could trade you the for



Jungle Monkey will want to run & ofcourse because you are jungle :). The smite will allow you to go bloodrazor and with the attack speed build it will allow for quite a bit of true damage.

Is wukongs passive, it will allow you to survive and will actually give you some nice tankyness when it comes to laning phase. Also whne running the agressive build it will allow for allot of one on one wins. When this is combined with it makes you early game super strong.

Is the first spell you max due to its ability to give you attack speed and flat ap damage its by far the strongest spell you have! Do not forget to use it as both an escape & an engage. Wether you are playing aggressive build and or the tank one this ability will give you early game substain aswel as late game lifesteal when its combined with your .

& is your first combo, as it will provide you with quicker attack speed which will reset the your quicker and they both use less mana then . Again works really well with as it will apply the aoe damage when used.

can be used to engage, disengage, pump damage in one on one's or just cause insane extra teamfight damage. Using S or stop command will cause people to think you have used it allowing you to get away free. You want to use this ability after to give your clone attack speed, then follow it up with so both you and the clone will use on your target. This can apply some amazing damage when it comes to towers.

Finally This is what makes unstoppable in teamfights. In the last re-work they have made it possible for to be used 2x also allowing his clone to use but whereas you can knock up 2x the clone can only knock up 1 time. The idea behind using this spell is you want to use Nimbus to engage on the back line then use warrior clone now while you inevitably will chase the adc or apc using your the clone will still be in the old position ccing frontliners.

Full Rotation

always has early dominance due to his kit and damage potential, thats why I will be covering mid and late game.

Mid Game

Split Push or Team fight?
mid game can be both utilised for split push and teamfights. Now it is up to you to determine wether or not your allies are fed enough or capable of winning teamfights. If so you will want to join them and provide them with your CC and kill potential. If not however you will want to continue to split into the late game as you will normally be able to 1v1 whoever they send to you. What you will want to do none the less, is make sure the lane you are pushing is either on the oposite side of the jungle objective, IE if dragon is up, push top allowing your team to capture the objective when they have to split up for you, OR allow them to get the objective and grab an inhib tower allowing you to split bot lane.

Late Game - What to focus in fights?

When late game rolls around and you are forced to join a teamfight it will be most likely up to you to either target the enemy teams carry if you are an agressive monkey or provide peal and allot of cc for your team if you are a Tanky Monkey.

For example if the enemy team has a caitlyn that is fed and im an Aggressive Monkey I will use to charge the caitly followed by a and then to double my which is then followed by a to finish or provide cc for my team to finish her off.

But when I go for a Tanky Monkey, I will most likely whoever is going for my Carry or provide as much CC as possible with my allowing my team to as much uptime on the enemy as possible.

In conclusion, is a champion that will not only provide you with allot of potential to reach high elo, he also is very unlikely to fall off in the future which makes him an amazing champion to main.
