[13.5] Draven guide for beginners

By TTV xBobby___
About me
Hello guys!

I am Bobby, a lowelo Draven main since his release with the old passive (rip ๐Ÿ™ ). Started playing half a year before Draven release and only picked Nunu & Mordekaiser back then. It's a high risk high reward pick. I am currently Dia, started this season in Gold, so the (matchup) knowledge this guide provides is gold-dia.

Back in the days I mostly played Twisted Treeline and used to funnel on 3v3 in highelo (Graves, Lucian, Yi, Yasuo). Stopped playing in 2016 for university and installed League of Legends in 2021 again to play with friends.

This guide shall help you to get used to Draven and set the basics (runes, items, matchups).
Summoner Spells
I always use Flash. It's essential for Draven.

Second spell one of following depending on the matchup:

1. Cleanse if they have a lot of hard cc (Maokai, Leona, Amumu, Naut, Cait...)
2. Exhaust if they have assassins (Zed, Kata, LeBlanc, Talon, Kha'Zix, Rengar...)
3. Heal or Barrier if you play against a poke lane without cc or if you have a Yuumi with exhaust+ignite

Lethal Tempo is currently the best keystone for Draven. You'll get attack speed and attack range.

Triumph restores 10% of missing health, so you can all in bot and try 2v3 if you feel ahead. Also +20gold on kill.

Legend: Bloodline so you can rush your core items (kraken edge + infinity edge)without having to waste money on vampiric scepter early while being possible to survive lane.

Coup de Grace is a good choice as it supports aggressive playstyles (8% more damage when the enemy is under 40% hp).
If they have 3 tanks, you can use Cut Down instead.
Last Stand is also an option if you take risky low hp fights. Recommended for players that can kite with Draven during teamfights.

Second tree Domination with Taste of Blood for better sustain and Treasure Hunter for more money and better lead.

Remember this is just a recommendation. You can also use Sorcery with Absolute Focus and Gathering Storm for more damage and better scalling.

League of Draven

Innate: When Draven catches a Spinning Axe, kills a non-champion, or destroys a turret , he gains a stack of Adoration.

In addition, killing a minion or destroying a Ward or trap grants a Strike stack for 10 seconds, stacking up to 6 times. If he drops an axe axe or a nearby Minion minion dies without Draven killing it he loses all Strike stacks. At 6 stacks, he consumes all of his Strike stacks and gains 2 Adoration stacks.

When Draven kills an enemy Champion icon.png champion, he consumes all of his Adoration stacks and gains 40 + (2.5 ร— stacks) bonus gold Gold 40 + (2.5 ร— stacks) bonus gold.

Draven loses 75% of his Adoration stacks upon death.

Q - Spinning Axe

COST: 45 mana
COOLDOWN: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8

Active: Draven starts spinning his axe, empowering his next basic attack within 5.8 seconds to deal bonus physical damage.

Bonus Physical Damage:
40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 (+ 75 / 85 / 95 / 105 / 115% bonus AD)

Upon hitting the target, the axe then ricochets off of them to land after 2 seconds, with the location being determined by Draven's current movement. If Draven catches the axe, he gains Spinning Axe's empowered attack again.

Draven can hold up to two Spinning Axes at once.

Tip: Press "S" to stop moving/autoattack. It's easier to freeze and catch axes.

W - Blood Rush

COST: 40 / 35 / 30 / 25 / 20 Mana

Active: Draven enters an adrenaline rush, gaining bonus attack speed for 3 seconds as well as decaying bonus movement speed and ghosting for 1.5 seconds.

Bonus Attack Speed:
20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40%

Bonus Movement Speed:
50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70%

Catching a Spinning Axe Spinning Axe resets Blood Rush's cooldown.

Tip: Poke with w = catch axe --> press w --> run to the enemy --> do one autoattack and back off. This triggers Essence Reaver and the enemies won't be able to contest. You can easily bully them. Make sure to have vision in botside bushes.

E - Stand Aside

COST: 70 Mana
COOLDOWN: 18 / 17 / 16 / 15 / 14
WIDTH: 260
SPEED: 1400

Active: Draven throws a fan of axes in a line in the target direction, dealing physical damage to enemies hit, knocking them aside, though not through terrain, and slowing them for 2 seconds.

R - Whirling Death

COST: 100 mana
COOLDOWN: 100 / 90 / 80
WIDTH: 320
SPEED: 2000

Active: Draven hurls two massive axes in the target direction that briefly grant sight of their surroundings and deal physical damage to enemies hit. Enemy champions that would have health left within the current number of League of Draven stacks are executed.

Physical Damage:ยป
175 / 275 / 375 (+ 110 / 130 / 150% bonus AD)

Whirling Death can be recast after 1 second while the axes are traveling, and does so automatically after the axes hit an enemy champion or the edge of the map.

Recast: Draven forces the axes to reverse direction, slowly coming to a stop before homing back to him, dealing the same damage to enemies hit.

Whirling Death deals 100% โˆ’ 40% (based on enemies hit) damage, resetting upon reversing direction.

Minimum Physical Damage:ยป
70 / 110 / 150 (+ 44 / 52 / 60% bonus AD)

Enemies can be hit only once per pass.
Skill order
Focus on Q as this is your main damage spell.

Lvl 1: Q
Lvl 2: W
Lvl 3: E

Always make sure to farm with your Q for stacks and more damage. If you aleady use 2 axes, you can refresh the Q uptime if you press Q again. For example if you push tower and have to back off while waiting for a new wave.

Essence Reaver

The item got buffed in 13.1b. +10ad for only 100 gold. It definitely pays off to rush Essence Reaver. Sometime you can also go for Serrated Dirk (1100 gold) but only if you are going to build The Collector instead of Lord Dominik's Regards. Therefore the enemies need to be squishy. But ER into Infinity Edge is currently the best default option.
Essence Reaver triggers a passive when using an ability. Make sure to spam Q/W before engaging to deal more damage. It also restores mana, so spamming abilities is no problem.

Total Price: 2900 | Recipe Price: 500 | Sell Price: 2030

20 Ability Haste
55 Attack Damage
20% Critical Strike Chance

UNIQUE Passive: After using an ability, your next basic attack on-hit within 10 seconds deals 100% base AD (+0.4 bonus attack damage) bonus physical damage and restores mana equal to 40% base AD (+0.16 bonus attack damage) (1.5 second cooldown; begins after using the empowered attack).

Berserker's Greaves are the "basic" Draven boots as you get attackspeed.

Total Price: 1100 | Recipe Price: 500 | Sell Price: 770

35% Attack Speed
45 Movement Speed

Depending on your matchup, you can also get Mercury's Treads if the enemies have 4+ AP champs or Plated Steelcaps if they have 3+ ranged AD champs (example: Vayne top, Akshan mid, Ashe supp, ADC).

Mercury's Treads

Total Price: 1100 | Recipe Price: 350 | Sell Price: 770

25 Magic Resistance
45 Movement Speed
30 Tenacity

Plated Steelcaps

Total Price: 1100 | Recipe Price: 500 | Sell Price: 770

20 Armor
45 Movement Speed

UNIQUE Passive: Reduces incoming damage from all basic attacks by 12% (excluding turret shots).

If you go for one of those boots you don't need to worry about your attackspeed when building Kraken Slayer as the passive of this mythic items gives bonus attackspeed.

Infinity Edge

Massive buff on the patch 13.1b. You already get the crit damage buff at 40% (1 crit item + infinity edge). Passive - Perfection Required Critical Strike Chance: 60% โ‡’ 40%

Infinity Edge was also rushed first or second before the mythic item changes were introduced. The items makes Draven deal a lot of damage with his Q autoattacks and Essence Reaver procs.

Total Price: 3400 | Recipe Price: 625 | Sell Price: 2380

70 Attack Damage
20% Critical Strike Chance

UNIQUE Passive: Gain 35% bonus critical strike damage if you have at least 40% critical strike chance.

Immortal Shieldbow

Immortal Shieldbow is my favourite mythic besides Kraken Slayer (depending on matchup). It enables pretty good sustain. The passive prevents getting oneshot. I usually get the mythic as 3rd (fed) or 4th (kinda even) item with Lord Dominik's Regards.

Total Price: 3400 | Recipe Price: 625 | Sell Price: 2380

50 attack damage
20% attack speed
20% critical strike chance
7% life steal

Unique โ€“ Lifeline: If you would take damage that would reduce you below 30% of your maximum health, you first gain a shield that absorbs 250 โˆ’ 630 (based on level) damage for 3 seconds and 15 โˆ’ 35 (based on level) bonus attack damage for 8 seconds (90 second cooldown).

Mythic Passive: Empowers each of your other Legendary items with 5 bonus attack damage and 70 bonus health.

Immortal Shieldbowcan be upgraded by Ornn to Bloodward.

Kraken Slayer

Kraken Slayeris a good choice for Draven. Galeforce feels useless on Draven. There is no need for the dash as you have W Blood Rush and E Stand Aside to engage or disengage. Otherwise you can build Immortal Shieldbow if the enemies have 2+ fed assassins.

Total Price: 3400 | Recipe Price: 625 | Sell Price: 2380

65 Attack Damage
25% Attack Speed
20% Critical Strike Chance

UNIQUE Passive: Every third attack within 3 seconds deals 50 (+0.4 per attack damage) bonus true damage on-hit.

Mythic Passive: Empowers your other Legendary items with 10% bonus attack

Kraken Slayercan be upgraded by Ornn to Wyrmfallen Sacrifice.

Lord Dominik's Regards

Lord Dominik's Regards is good vs champs with more health than Draven. Buy this if the enemy team has a tank/bruiser.

Total Price: 3000 | Recipe Price: 950 | Sell Price: 2100

30 Armor Penetration
35 Attack Damage
20% Critical Strike Chance

UNIQUE Passive: Deal 0โˆ’25% bonus physical damage against enemy champions with greater maximum health than you (depending on maximum health difference).

Bloodthirstergot adjusted in patch 13.1b. -3% lifesteal, more shield lvl 9-18 and 200 gold cheaper. This item is a good choice to survive teamfights. The shield is good vs burst damage. Also great to take 1v1 fights against the enemy adc.

Total Price: 3200 | Recipe Price: 400 | Sell Price: 2240

55 Attack Damage
20% Critical Strike Chance
15% Life Steal

UNIQUE Passive: Convert the healing received from life steal in excess of maximum health into a shield for up to 180โˆ’450 (depending on level), which slowly decays after not dealing or taking damage for 25 seconds.

Mercurial Scimitar

Buy this item if the enemies have a ton of hard CC (stuns, roots, charms). You can also use Mercurial Scimitar to get out of Mordekaiser Ultimate Realm of Death.

Total Price: 3000 | Recipe Price: 225 | Sell Price: 2100

40 Attack Damage
20% Critical Strike Chance
40 Magic Resistance

UNIQUE Active: Removes all crowd control debuffs (except Airborne) from your champion and grants +50% movement speed and ghosting for 1.5 second (90 second cooldown).

Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel is a good choice if the enemies have a lot of burst damage (assassins). You'll be revived after dying. You can sell the item during cooldown if you are fullbuild and buy it afterwards again.

Total Price: 3000 | Recipe Price: 150 | Sell Price: 2100

40 Armor
45 Attack Damage

UNIQUE Passive: Upon taking lethal damage, resurrects and restores 50% of base health and 30% of maximum mana after 4 seconds of stasis (300 second cooldown).

Rapid Firecannon

Rapid Firecannon enables bonus range on the first attack. This can be usefull if the team cannot peel for you. Also good item at Caitlyn matchups.

Total Price: 2500 | Recipe Price: 700 | Sell Price: 1750

35% Attack Speed
20% Critical Strike Chance
7% Movement Speed

UNIQUE Passive: Moving and basic attacking generates Energize stacks, up to 100.

UNIQUE Passive: When fully Energized, your next basic attack deals 120 bonus magic damage on-hit. Energized attacks gain 35% bonus range (+150 range maximum).

Phantom Dancer

Phantom Dancer can be swapped with Berserker's Greaves if you are already fullbuild. Gives 7% Movement Speed and other usefull stats.

Total Price: 2600 | Recipe Price: 850 | Sell Price: 1820
LoL Item: Phantom Dancer

20 Attack Damage
25% Attack Speed
20% Critical Strike Chance
7% Movement Speed

UNIQUE Passive: Basic attacks on-attack grant ghosting, 7% bonus movement speed, and a stack of Spectral Waltz for 3 seconds, up to 4 stacks. While at 4 stacks, gain 30% bonus attack speed.
