Introduction

Sup, if youre looking at this build its probably because you, like I, got bored of playing Shen as a tank, and were like, "I wonder if there is a different, successful way to play Shen?" My answer to you is yes, there is. I originally found this was a successful way to play Shen while in a game with 2 of my friends, and we all decided to play AS, without normally AS champs. That is what this was:

One of the cool things about playing an abnormal version of Shen that I have seen, is that many players think, "Don't focus Shen, he's tanky!" This is advantageous in team fights, because half the team might be attacking you becuase you're fed and you have a ridiculous damage output, while the other half is instinctively avoiding attacking the "tank," and if a team isn't communicating well, and not focusing, teamfights get easier.

Try this build with nearly whatever character you want (the items that is)

Since this is a wierd build that doesnt have much to do with Shen other than his passive and his Vorpal Blade, I have tried it with other Characters with sweet passives and it has had similar effects. This build works with Pantheon , Graves, Yi, Jax, Lulu, Warwick, Xin, Teemo, Akali, Ezreal, Caitlyn, Gangplank, Warwick, Kayle, Nocturne, Olaf, Orianna, Skarner, Twisted Fate, Twitch, Udyr, and Volibear.

Out of these I have tried this build and succeeded with Panth (his Aegis protection becomes ridiculously funny when fighting AD champs), Graves (level his dash/AS buff first), WW (with passive LS, and his Ult applying on hit effects), Teemo (need I explain?), and TF (as with Graves, level the AS buff ability first).

Because I have tested it with a few, this build should (theoretically) work with pretty much any champion that gets any type of bonus attack speed from moves, or benefits from attacking multiple times. This is due to the fact that its mostly the items bonus damage doing the work, and all of the attack speed allows for all these effects to get put on multiple times.

I am not saying that this is the best, nor even a great build for all of these characters, just a viable one, that you may want to try out.

Runes

Pretty simple explanation for the runes here.

Get the Armor and scaling MR runes to help you stay alive early game, and since you probably aren't building many other Armor and MR items, its good to have a little bit, in case enemies do focus you.

AS Marks and Quints to boost your AS. Not much to it. Helps with your Ki Strike CD, and Wit's End and all that other good stuff.

Suggested Alternates

Crit runes (go for crit items first in this case), or movement quints are both viable options. This is a joke build, so really anything is viable.... Lol

Masteries

OFFENSE ALL THE WAY!!!!!! I say bollocks to defense. And utility is trashy anyways.

If you want to play a bit less aggressively, go 21 Offense, and 9 Defense. I would put 2 in Hardiness, 2 in Resistance, 4 in Durability and 1 in Veteran's Scars.

Summoner Spells

Great Spells

Flash is just awesome. Helps you get away from fights you dont want to be in.

I really like exhaust as it allows you to catch up to enemies/prevent them from escaping. Add the fact that it reduces the damage that enemies do as well as make them easier to kill. Very useful both early and late game.

Ghost helps you catch up to people, get away, but imo flash is better.

Meh Spells

Teleport is useful if you're solo top lane and you feel like you need to be there more. Try it out.

Surge can be useful, I tried it in a super quick bot game (everyone takes AS champs, surge, dagger at start, and you can push towers super fast and win games in like 15-20 minutes) and it seemed to be pretty awesome.

You're doing damage, so if you want to do more bc you cant seem to finish off enemies, take Ignite.

Heal? Idk, go for it if you want to be more supportish

Unadvised Spells

Revive - Bleh

Cleanse - You can.... A bit of a waste.

Clarity - No

Promote - Idk, I've seen it be used well, but this doesn't really fit the build

Clairvoyance - You aren't support anymore :)

Items

Early Game

Doran's Blade gives you everything you need at the starting level. A bit of AD so you can possibly get that FIRST BLOOD(!!!!), then HP and LS for that early game lane sustainability.

Follow this by getting Boots of Speed, and then either a Malady or a Wits End, which you should be able to achieve pretty fast.

If fighting against AP champs, buy the Wits End first. Purchase the Recurve Bow first, unless you are in a lane against some heavy duty AP champs, that are destroying you.

I would suggest getting the WE first, but if you are hurting for gold, and you're up against AD champs anyways, you might as well get the Malady first. The AP will boost your Vorpal Blade damage as well as your Dash taunt damage, so its up to you if you want to build the Daggers or the Tome first.

After you're done with the first main item, get your Beserker's Greaves, and either the opposite item of the first or the Cloak and Dagger. I decided to give the Cloak and Dagger a little shout out because its a sweet item for how inexpensive it is, as it gives you tenacity plus AS, as well as a bit of Crit Chance. I would suggest it if you are laning against people with annoying CC, or the enemy team has a lot of it.

Mid Game

Kinda skipped mid game/enrolled it into the early game section. Lol w/e.

Late Game

Its about time to start wrecking people, if you weren't already. :)

Go for the blood razor, this will give you more attack speed, and your attacks will be shredding people apart with your bonus magic damage at this point in the game.

FROM HERE, ITS PRETTY MUCH SITUATIONAL:

If they start building MR, trying to **** block your epic bonus magic damage build some Penetration. A good item here would be the Void Staff.

If you're doing good damage, but not enough, get the Nashor's Tooth.

If they have someone with a nasty nuke, or you're just dying too much/taking too much damage, get the Banshee's Veil.

If they keep running away, get Rylai's Crystal Scepter (you could go for Frozen Mallet instead, do whatever you think is best).

If you are feeling like you need to be a bit more tanky against AP, prevent getting nuked, AND do a bit more damage, get the Maw. IMO, this is a sweet new item that they added, as it will give you AD, MR, and a bubble shield.

If you got the more AP type items, and you are both extremely fed and the game is taking way to long, try out the Lich's Bane.

Honestly, I have never gotten past getting a Bloodrazor before my team has won with this build, so if you do, post a comment, letting me know how it goes.

Summary

So thats my short and quick guide to playing Shen/whatever character you're playing a different way. Remember to have fun, and not take the game to seriously. The point of it is to have fun. It is a game. Chill bro.
