[25.22] Low Elo Ezreal Main

By Moosicel
"When you've got talent, there's not such thing as a lucky shot."
Hello fellow ADCs! :)

It has been a while since i wrote some meager words on my main champions Aphelios and Zeri. I also thought a lot about writing down some details concerning Jinx, since she is my most played champion overall. But then again, Jinx just scales and can get exited at some point. As long as you can farm and the enemy is not focusing you every 3 minutes, there is not much of an explanation needed for Jinx.

Helpful information and peculiar facts are only needed for ADC champions that are not played that much. I thought about writing down all the quirks and surprise flexibilty of Senna. Or going into detail how I train clean minion last hits and damage trading with Vayne. But i don't know, if i will ever play those champions on a regular basis. You know, gather all the experience that only a true Main would find out over time. I had fun trial and error sessions with almost 20 different marksmen. Slowly, but shurely, I found something that contributed nicely to Zeri, Jinx, Aphelios.

If you can play Aphelios then you should find yourself at home playing Caitlyn, Jhin and Azir (i also believe, that Hwei and Viktor must feel similar, but life is short and you can only play and test so much). Playing Jinx also opened the door to Zeri, who has a smiliar feel with Runaan's+ Infinity Edge spike. Playing immobile mains like Aphelios and Jinx always has some risks in some drafts. You can not ban Twitch or Caitlyn all the time. And sometimes, your Midlaner already plays an immobile mage like Xerath and simply does not want to sideline during the mid game. Yes, Zeri can compensate a lot, but she is also a scaling champion for late game. In addition, Xayah needs a lot of practice, Miss Fortune's design is not to my taste, and overall, you should play champions that are similar. Makes the game sessions so much easier.

This is where Ezreal and Vayne enter the stage. I still don't know, if i have to write about Vayne, since she has a similar feel to Zeri, Kalista, Xayah, Lucian etc. Mobile, aggro, good midgame, rather short ranged etc. But Ezreal is special.

Some people, me included, must come to the conclusion, that Ezreal is the most fun champion in the game. Or at least top 3 together with Kalista and Akali. But Kalista was nerfed too much and Akali is a midlane champion. So, why Ezreal? What makes him so unique?

First things first: Ezreal sucks into more than 1 Tank. He also sucks vs hyper carries like Jinx, Smolder, Senna in ultra late game. So, here we already have some strong negative points about this champion. One could even ask the question: Why bother at all? You could play Miss F and press R at the right second. Or play Volibear/ Amumu/ Warwick Jungle. Cozy gameplay and everything.

With all the negativity, even a 47% win rate, Ezreal has some ultra unique strong arguments. If the enemy team draft has only 1 tank or no tank at all, Ezreal becomes viable all of a sudden. And even then you have to work hard to get some damage numbers. Hit the Qs, the Ws and also auto attack. But the reward elevates the ADC gameplay on a whole new level. The one thing that always annoyes me about champions like Miss Fortune or Smolder is the lack of precision in situations where it matters most. Ezreal solves this problem. If you practice the Q, W auto attack combo, Ezreal can surgically remove high priority targets like enemy ADC or Jungler. Not as a happy accident that somehow happend in 1 out of 10 games. You can do this every game. You are not forced to front to back fighting, being passive and re-active all the time. Ezreal allows for a pro-active gameplay. Even within the first 20 minutes of a game. This turns Ezreal's game design into a fascinating playstyle option. A Jinx player can look at the draft, and, whenever there is a possibility to win in under 35 minutes vs assassins and mages, you can adapt your gameplan. And play Ezreal. More options, more flexibility, more strategy, more fun at the end of the day.

Tips for Laning Phase:
- stay behind minions, when the enemy attacks or zones you (hello Nautilus, Blitzcrank), minionas are a safe wall for squishy Ezreal with 0 armor
- position yourself next to a wave, if you want to attack the enemy. This way, your Q will not hit a minion by accident, but has open space to fly to the target
- buy 2 Long Swords, this will help a lot with minion last hits and early damage trading
- use quick cast in the options, then use your mouse cursor for higher precision. Position your mouse cursor slightly behind the enemy champion you want to hit. This way you will hit more Qs and auto attacks
- when jumping forward with the E, Ezreal will auto hit the nearest target. This means, if you hit somebody with the W, and then press E, you will always get the detonation. If i am not mistaken, this also applies for champions hiding out of vision, for example, within a brush. In a chaotic team fight, this will give you much needed extra hits

Tips for Mid Game:
- Take down Turrets. Bot Lane, Mid Lane and Top Lane! Just like Caitlyn, Ezreal wants to snowball the game, and take down structures as fast as possible.
- Practice pathing and positioning with champions like Sivir or Vayne or Aphelios. Never waste an E to correct a very easy positioning mistake. You want to use your E as a last second kill secure or get out alive option.
- Use the Ultimate to help with skirmishes. For example, Yone/ Yasuo fighting somewhere, send the True Shot. This can result in free dragons or free turrets.

Tips for Late Game:
- focus on taking down Turrets and getting Dragon Soul and Baron Push. This is more important than team fighting and accumulating a pretty K/D/A.
- try and poke enemy champions before the real fight starts. Even if it's just 10% of their HP bars. It can make all the difference.
- If you have a low E cooldown, use E for first reposition, Q+auto attack+W+ auto attack, then use your Flash for second reposition, repeat the attack combo, and then use E again for a third reposition/ safe area
- look for open space and escape routes before fights start. Like Zeri, Ezreal can get over terrain in unique ways and live, where other ADCs would just die in a cc chain
- experiment with Items like Ghostblade, Ravenous Hydra, Cyclosword etc. Those items can win the game sometimes. But also be ready to build classic items like Spear of Shojin.
