Champion Build Guide
The main thing to remember is that Master Yi is a hypercarry that needs to scale in order to win. Prioritize gold and item spikes, since Master Yi revolves around those two elements. Always try to stay ahead of the enemy team in order to carry and focus on effective farming, objectives and ganking in the early game, whilst focusing on objectives, splitpushing and teamfighting in the later stages of the game.
Try to stay alive with smart timing of your Q and W in order to survive. I hope that this guide will help you towards mastering Master Yi and send me any questions you think of in the discussion tab. GL & HF!
Do not follow this guide blindly. Use your own brain as well and always adapt your runes/build/pathing/playstyle/summoner spells etc. to the team compositions.
For example you should prioritize armor against AD, MR against AP, Tenacity against CC, Antie-heal against healing, HP when your team don't have tanks and stack on-hit damage against tanks. It might seem obvious, however many forget to do this and just follow a guide blindly.
Therefore I have included different builds depending och team compositions and playstyle, but don't be afraid to experiment and find your own build/playstyle that fits you the best.
SO REMEMBER, there is not one build that is best for all games or players. You must always use your own brain and logic in order to master Master Yi consistently! ;D
PROS
- Easy to play
- Can melt his enemies no matter ther tankiness
- Snowballing potential
- Great for objectives
- One of the best duelists
- He can 1v9 games if ahead
- Good gank and countergank potential
CONS
- Almost useless if you fall behind
- Countered by cc, burst and invisibility
- Might be hard to have an impact in the early game
- Almost impossible to master his full potential
- He needs to be ahead in order to carry games
1) My go-to pathing - Red > krugs > raptors > wolves > blue > gromp > scuttle > reset or gank
2) The reversed - Blue > gromp > wolves > raptors > red > krugs > scuttle > reset or gank
3) Invaded start - Invade red/blue > full clear (see 1 or 2) > reset or gank
4) Lvl 3 gank bot (very unsusual, only if the enemy overextend and push hard early) - Red > blue > gromp > lvl 3 gank bot
5) Lvl 2 gank top (very unsusual, only if the enemy overextend and push hard early) - Red > krugs > lvl 2 gank top
Early Game (Levels 1–6)
-Primary goal: Farm efficiently and avoid unnecessary fights.
-Stick to safe jungle routes: see my go-to jungle pathing above.
-Don’t fight strong early duelist junglers like Lee Sin, Elise, or Nidalee; survive and hit level 6.
-Look for opportunistic ganks on overextended and pushed lanes, especially squishies.
-Focus on early drake and grubs if possible and if your team have prio.
Mid Game (Levels 6–11)
-You now have Highlander (R), making ganks deadly.
-Focus on objectives: Dragon, Rift Herald, and lane pressure.
-Split-push or invade if your lanes have priority.
-Avoid fights under enemy turret unless your team can follow up.
-Target priority in skirmishes: squishies first, then tanks after resets.
Late Game (Levels 11+)
-Yi becomes a teamfight monster or split-push threat.
-Always focus the enemy carries and damage dealers and secondly target isolated squishie targets to kill quickly.
-Reset chains: Alpha Strike → autos (with E) → Highlander reset → repeat.
-Avoid getting caught by crowd control (Morgana binds, Sejuani stuns, Malphite ult).
-Focus objectives: push side lanes or take epic monsters while enemies are elsewhere.
-Highlander resets: Target low-health enemies first to chain kills efficiently.
-Smite + Q / Highlander combo: Secure objectives quickly while keeping cooldowns minimal.
-Focus on enemy carries/squishies first and tanks later.
-Kiting with Q + autos: In fights vs bruisers, Q resets auto-attacks while dodging skill shots.
-Split-push tactics: Use control wards, Highlander, and minion waves to pressure side lanes safely.
-Use your Q and W in order to dodge/reduce towershots & enemy abilities/attacks and to survive longer in fights
-Find your own playstyle and dare to try new runes, items and pathings
-Ban the champion you have the hardest time against, my go-to is Shaco since he is annoying and played by many OTP
-Send me questions if you have any
-Fighting under CC-heavy enemies – Avoid Sejuani, Morgana, Poppy, or Volibear engages without backup.
-Ignoring objectives – Dying to dragons or Rift Heralds slows your scaling.
-Poor Highlander usage – Using R too early or when CC is imminent wastes resets.
-Neglecting vision – Yi is vulnerable to invades and counter-ganks without wards.
1) Shaco > 2) Evelynn > 3) Kha'Zix
