Champion Build Guide

70% winrate tank cho'gath to diamond (dedicated matchup section)

By Vandenelis
Introduction
Hello, I am a dimond toplane player from eune who is always looking to improve. In-game I am known as pls buff tanks.
According to porofessor app, I am 93 rank chogath worldwide and the 18th chogath player in eune.
Why choose chogath?
Pros
+Good early game sustain with Carnivore
+Infinite scaling
+It takes 20-30 seconds to kill you late game
+Oneshoting capability
+A lot of different cc ( Rupture Feral Scream Vorpal Spikes)
+carry capability

Cons
-can easily be countered by true or %max hp damage
-immobile
-needs ult stacks to be strong
Skill explanation

PASSIVE
ABILITY
CARNIVORE (Passive):Whenever Cho'Gath kills a unit, he recovers 20 - 71 (+2.83 each level) Health and 3.5 - 7.75 Mana (+0.25 each level.

ussage: this passive is great for health sustain in the lane, and if you are low on mana, killing a few minions will help you to be able to use one more spells.

Q
RUPTURE (Q): Ruptures the ground at target location. After a delay of 0.5 seconds, enemies are launched into the air for 1 second, dealt 80 / 135 / 190 / 245 / 300 (+100% of ability power) magic damage, and have their movement speed slowed by 60% for 1.5 seconds.

Usage: lets you cc enemies, letting you either run away or catch up to them, can also let you attack them without taking any damage back. If you use this spell from a place enemies don't have vision then it becomes invisible to the enemies. this spell can cancel most dashes, so you should use it on yourself when enemies are about to dash onto you.

W
FERAL SCREAM (W): After 0.5 seconds, Cho'Gath screams in a cone in front of him, silencing enemies for 1.6 / 1.7 / 1.8 / 1.9 / 2 seconds and dealing 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+70% of ability power) magic damage.

Usage: silences enemies making them unable to cast spells, when enemies are silenced you should use your Feast and possibly Rupture, making them unable to avoid your ultimate damage.

E
VORPAL SPIKES (E):
Cho'Gath's next 3 basic attacks have 50 bonus range and launch a volley of spikes in a line, dealing 22 / 37 / 52 / 67 / 82 (+30% of ability power) (+ 3% of target's maximum health (+ 0.5% per Feast stack)) magic damage and applying a 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50% slow that decays over 1.5 seconds to enemies hit.
Vorpal Spikes resets Cho'Gath's autoattack timer.

Usage: this spell acts as an aa reset, letting you aa twice in a row. this spell is your main source of damage since it does 3% of your max hp (+0.5% of your max hp per ultimate stack). It provides a slow which does not let enemies run away from you, and if you combine this spell with Feral Scream, enemies can not dodge your Rupture

R
FEAST (R): After 0.5 seconds, Cho'Gath devours an enemy unit, dealing 300 / 475 / 650 (+50% of ability power) (+10% of bonus health) true damage. Against non-champions, the base damage is increased to 1000. If the target is killed, Cho'Gath grows, gaining 80 / 120 / 160 extra health. Each stack of Feast gives Cho'Gath 4.9 / 6.2 / 7.5 attack range, up to 49 / 62 / 75 bonus range.
Cho'Gath can only gain 6 stacks from minions and non-epic monsters, but Feast can stack infinitely.

Usage: this is your main tool to scale since it gives you max hp and damage depending on your max hp. try to use Feast as soon as it comes off cooldown. If you can kill them, then start fighting them before your Feast comes off cooldown, and you should be able to use it as soon as it becomes ready, if you can't kill an enemy in the near future, then get stacks from minions, since each stack is worth 213-427 gold(depending on ultimate level)in health (it also gives damage with your e)
RUNES
Grasp of the Undying this is gonna be your main rune choice since it deals 4% of your max hp as ap damage and it gives 2% of your max hp when you deal damage with it. and it gives 5 more max hp every time you use it.

Aftershock might also be a viable choice, it makes you do less damage, but enemies deal less damage to you after you used Rupture or Feral Scream on them. You also end up having a 50-200 less max hp in the late game.

Demolish it helps you do more damage to the turrets, since it does 35% of your max hp as additional damage you can deal half of the turrets hp in one hit.

Conditioning helps you scale into the late game since it increases your armor and magic resist by 5%. To help you survive lane you can either use Bone Plating it gives you more survivability against all-in champions or Second Wind which helps you against ranged poke champions.

Overgrowth also helps you scale into the late game by giving you max hp when jungle camps or minions die near you. It also gives 3.5% max hp when a total of 120 minions have died near you

Triumph gives you 12% of your max hp heal and 20 gold after a champion kill. this rune saves me almost every game especially after a turret dive letting you survive an additional turret shot.

Presence of Mind lets you use your spells more often (especially) Feral Scream since it consumes a lot of mana

Legend: Alacrity gives stacks, which give you additional attack speed. letting you use up your Vorpal Spikes faster.

Legend: Tenacity gives stacks, which makes cc last shorter, letting you move more freely

Biscuit Delivery lets you use more spells early game, and gives you additional mana early game.

Approach Velocity lets you fallow after enemies which you or your allies cc'ed.
item choices

PLATED STEELCAPS
VS

MERCURY'S TREADS
you should buy Plated Steelcaps if enemies have a lot of enemies using aa, or if your enemy toplaner is a tough matchup relying on aa, like Tryndamere or Fiora. its also the best buy if enemy tram has 4 or 5 ad champions Mercury's Treads are the best option if enemies have a lot of cc, since Mercury's Treads gives you tenacity, it is also a good choice if enemies have 3 or 4 ap champions in their team

SUNFIRE AEGIS
VS

FROSTFIRE GAUNTLET
Sunfire Aegis is my preferred option since it is better in long fights, since you deal more damage, I recommend taking it against enemies with a lot of cc and/or slows since this item grants additional tenacity/slow resistance Iceborn Gauntlet gives you health which has a good synergy with your ult, since the more hp you have the more dmg your ult deals. It also gives you size, making enemies focus you instead of squishy carries in your team. I do not recommend buying this item if enemies have champions that deal damage based on %of your max hp or %of your missing hp like Fiora Vayne Zac Garen or even Fiddlesticks
other viable items

viable items
-
BRAMBLE VEST: you should look to rush Bramble Vest into all ad champs that heal from their kit like Aatrox Fiora. This item should be bought early even if your lane opponent isn't ad, since current meta has a lot of healing, and it costs only 800g.
IONIAN BOOTS OF LUCIDITY:Theese boots are a viable option if you want to snowball hard, since they give ability haste, and because of that you can Feast more often
TURBO CHEMTANK:this item gives you mobility which lets you run up to enemy carries and be able to oneshot them, this item got nerfed a few times so right now its the best item only if enemy carries are mobile or cc heavy squishies like Vayne Lucian or Syndra
THORNMAIL:We want this item because of the reduced healing it gives when you manage to hit enemies with Rupture, this should be your 2 item after the mythic if you are facing an ad matchup, if your matchup is ap you should be looking to buy this item at the time teamfights start
FORCE OF NATURE:This is our go to item into ap matchups, on top of the magic resist it provides, it also gives a slight movement speed boost, which helps us to get on top of enemy carries
DEAD MAN'S PLATE:this is the second armor item you should be looking for, since it gives us mobility, and with it more potential to catch out squishy enemy carries
WARMOG'S ARMOR:This is a generally good item that gives health regeneration, we want to buy it if team fights are long or they consist of few separate fights, so in that case, when you get low, you can retreat and regenerate your hp in the next few seconds
GARGOYLE STONEPLATE:this is your go-to item into mixed damage teams, and when you are the one getting focused, since it gives us both armor and magic resist, and the more enemies attack us the more resistances we get. try to use its active, just before enemy teams main burst damage lands
RANDUIN'S OMEN:this is your go to armor item against carries that have crit builds like Jhin since its active reduces enemy attack damage, and damage with crits, while also slowing them
TITANIC HYDRA:This is one of your best late game items, since it gives you attack damage, and aftershock damage based on your bonus max hp (which you get a lot of lategame) this item gives you 100+ad lategame and makes it the most cost-efficient item for tank Cho'Gath
FROEN HEART:it makes enemies aa slower, and their aa do less damage, it also gives you a lot of armor, so this is a situational item you want to buy if main enemy carries are aa based champs, and if enemy team is full ad.
ABYSSAL MASK:this item is only good if enemies are full ap, since its passive relies on you hitting your Rupture and it is kinda useless if you can't hit it
SPIRIT VISAGE:This is another situational item that you want to buy only if - you are fed and have Soraka or Yuumi who is always healing you, or you are facing a full ap team, this item is not good on its own, since Cho'Gath late game does not have much sustain, and there simply are better items for him
