Runes

WEEEEEEEE!! When it comes to runes there are a couple of paths that you can take however the main one i suggest is precision and then domination. This will give you the best damage output for Irelia as well as benefits or rewards for using her abilities right.

This keystones effect will begin upon entering combat with any target (minions, monsters and champions), but will only give the bonus AD and true damage conversion after attacking an enemy champion. Each stack lasts for 1 second, which means you get 4 seconds of possible stack generation after being in combat (3 + 1). This fourth second will however not add another stack, but since you reached it, going in combat again will surely give a 4th stack. Because of this you need to enter combat a minimum of two times to being able to proc the empowered attack. This is really good on Irelia as she can easily engage in combat whenever and wherever she wants due to her Q which resets if an enemy is marked. SO engage, Trade off three attacks with them, then disengage. simple.

The total amount of damage done is base damage with the addition of ((enemy's armour or enemy's MR) Γ· 5)%. So if an enemy has 100 armour you will deal 20% more damage to them. This damage will be reduced by resistances of the target but since it's mixed damage, healing or other bonuses calculate individually.

A alternative to taking Conqueror. With press the attack you are able to capitalise on your damage during trades and when you dive in to duel an opponent. Landing three hits onto the enemy is really easy with Irelia due to your mobility and your hard CC provided to you in your E. If you land that then you've secured free hits on your opponent and free damage. When taking this rune you'll start to feel like you are playing Fiora with Press The Attack or Riven. Just more fun.

Takedowns restore 15% of your missing health and grant an additional 25 gold.

Takedowns on enemies grant permanent Attack Speed.

Deal more damage to low health enemy champions.

After taking damage from an enemy champion, the next three spells or attacks you receive from enemy deal 20-50 less damage.

Duration: 5 seconds
Cooldown: 45 seconds

Start the game with an extra 60 health. At 4 takedowns, consume that health to gain an adaptive bonus of 9 Attack Damage or 15 Ability Power.

Abilities, Tips & Tricks

Hitting enemies with spells grant Irelia stacks of Ionian Fervor for a few seconds. Hitting multiple champions with an ability grants multiple stacks, and basic attacking extends their duration. Each stack adds bonus magic damage to her basic attacks. At max stacks, this bonus damage is increased against shields, and Irelia also gains attack speed.

Once you have em' where you want em' your Q is your movement ability. You use this to weave in and out of the enemies you just stunned and make it very hard to hit you. you also build up your passive doing this. You may also use this ability to gap close and also escape. Always remember to use this ability after you've marked your opponents or to execute minions, that way you always have it up maximising your gameplay and potential.

This is an ability for when you are being pressured or need to recalibrate from a occurring gank. This is basically Master Yi's W and Warwick's E combined. If you've just been targeted by an enemy ultimate or powerful ability, or you are about to get one shot, activate your W, take less damage, gather your surroundings and plan your next move, on the ability ending you launch out an attack automatically in a straight line and if this hits your opponent then you stack up your passive allowing you to do even more damage. You can also quickly tap this ability to trade the extended damage for an immediate attack. Use it to strike down fleeing enemies when you don’t have the option to Q for the last hit.

Your main Initiate is your E. Use this and your amazing geometry/prediction skills to catch enemies out and stun them, setting the stage for your elegant dance. The key is to stun many enemies at once, so try to use this when you find yourself against two or more enemies to give yourself the best possibility at winning.

This is for when you become super pressured and can be used in conjunction with your W. Your ultimate allows you to split up your attackers leaving them vulnerable and giving you enough space to Bladesurge towards them dealing your damage effortlessly. You can use this in a similar way Camille or Thresh uses their ultimate as you isolate the target stuck in the middle. Anyone who walks through the area becomes disarmed and slowed allowing you to catch up to them and make quick of them once you've dealt with your primary target. Try to strike hard and fast instead of engaging in elongated duels. HIT AND RUN BASICALLY!

Final Verdict

Irelia is one of the higher skill cap top laners in the game and requires you to learn her combos and understand the mechanics of her entire kit. I advise taking her into the practice tool and learning all her combos so that come game time you can focus more on reacting to enemy champions so that you can outplay them, rather than thinking baout what you should do. A players’ skill on Irelia shows as you play her through your builds, snowball potential and play style.
