[10.18] Lao's Mordekaiser - Time to Shred!

By laoshin3v3

Hello there!

My name is Lao Shin, I'm 19 Years old and I'm a high elo Toplane Main.

I've played League of Legends since season 1, and have mained toplane since season 2. My second best role is midlane. Ever since season 3 I've been high Diamond and peaked Challenger multiple season's. League of Legends has always been my main game, the most fun part of the game is never learning out, there is always something new.

Mordekaiser is a very underrated champion and because of this a lot of people underestimate him. Exactly knowing ur limits and potential can suprise the enemy and before he manages to figure out how much you can do is it already too late.

Probably the biggest Con why u want to play Mordekaiser is that he is very strong in the meta right now and he is almost everywhere playable. He is a super Strong Top/Mid and Botlaner. U give your team a huge amount of mixed damage and it's hard to build resistances against you.

PROS

+Great in the current Meta

+Good Waveclear

+High Sustain

+Allrounder

+Good Duelling Potential
CONS

-No Gap closer

-Prone to ganks

-Spells cost health

Q: Mace of Spades

ACTIVE: Mordekaiser's next three basic attacks deal bonus magic damage. The third hit is the damage of the previous two combined.

Mace of Spades resets Mordekaiser's autoattack timer.

W: Harvester of Sorrow

PASSIVE: Mordekaiser gains bonus experience when killing a minion near allies equal to 50% of the experience he lost due to them being there, which totals at 82.6 / 71.73 / 66.3 / 63.04 / 60.87% of the minion's experience bounty.

ACTIVE - FIRST CAST: Mordekaiser targets an allied champion or minion and for the next 4 seconds they gain up to 75 bonus movement speed while moving towards each other (increasing the further apart they are), which lingers for 1.5 seconds. When near enough to each other, each deal magic damage in an area of effect around themselves every second for the duration (melee and caster minions have a smaller AoE). Harvester of Sorrow ends if Mordekaiser or his ally dies.

For the next 4 seconds, Mordekaiser can reactivate Harvester of Sorrow to end its primary effects and trigger a secondary effect, which triggers automatically at the end of the duration. If activated while no allies are nearby, Mordekaiser will highlight an area around him and can reactivate the ability as normal. The first ally to come in range will automatically gain the effect, too.

ACTIVE - SECOND CAST: Mordekaiser constricts the area, dealing magic damage to all enemies near himself and his ally as well as healing himself and his ally for the same amount, from up to 2 enemies hit in their respective areas. Healing is reduced to 25% when harvesting minions.

E: Siphon of Destruction

ACTIVE: Mordekaiser deals magic damage to all enemies in a cone in the target direction.

For each enemy champion hit, Mordekaiser generates a bonus percentage of Iron Man shield.

R: Children of the Grave

PASSIVE - DRAGON FORCE: Mordekaiser's basic attacks and abilities Curse the Dragon for 10 seconds.

ACTIVE: Mordekaiser blasts the target enemy champion, dealing magic damage as well as Cursing them for the next 10 seconds. Cursed champions take magic damage every second, with Mordekaiser healing for 100% of the damage dealt by the initial blast and the Curse.

CURSE: If Mordekaiser's team scores an enemy champion Damage rating takedown on a Cursed enemy, he temporarily enslaves their soul as a controllable ghost. Enslaving the Dragon will kill Mordekaiser's current ghost and prevent him from summoning a new one while it survives.

SECOND ACTIVE: While a ghost is active, Children of the Grave can be used to move them to the target location.

Champion ghosts gain 100% of Mordekaiser's bonus AD as bonus AD and 15% of Mordekaiser's maximum health as bonus health, and while Mordekaiser has a champion enslaved he gains 25% of their bonus health as bonus health and 30% of their AP as bonus AP. Dragon ghosts gain bonus range and modified movement speed.

Flash is the most basic summoner and there is no reason to change it to anything else. Also it's ur most important spell in a teamfight. A fight with it can be game deciding and a teamfight without it can be the game losing. Never waste it for a solokill except in the early game.

Exhaust reduces the damage taken drasticly and u should always take it with you if u play against an assassin in the midlane or a high burst mage you can always take exhaust with you to prevent getting oneshot.

Mordekaiser lacks of mobility and taking Ghost with you can help you out in many situations or matchups. You can either chase the enemy down or escape easily. Also it's very good because u want to rush Rylai's Crystal Scepter first anyway and the enemy will be permaslowed u can chase him down even easier.

Ignite enables u some games to snowball out of controll and it's heal reduction and that's a pretty huge thing right now in the meta. In some matchups Ignite is exactly that little gap between the enemy surviving with 50Hp and the enemy being dead.

Teleport is great for ganking botlane or counter ganking botlane when the enemy jungler is there, sometimes u can get a tripple kill or simply save ur team, it wins games don't underrestimate it. Usually in the late game u can splitpush botlane and TP to ur team when a baron fight comes up.

Sorcery & Resolve

Summon Aery has many reasons why it's the best rune for Mordekaiser. It gives u everything from damage to shielding. It's great for poking the enemy and even better for finishing him with Ult. When you use Ult on a enemy target Summon Aery damages him multiple times.

Nimbus Cloak helps you finish the enemy after you ult him. It gives a good amount of movementspeed so you can chase him down easier.

Transcendence gives you extra CD which is nice and also the other options in the tree are kinda useless

Gathering Storm is infinite scaling. The longer the game goes the stronger u get.

Shield Bash is kinda new and incredible strong with Mordekaisers passive. With every single spell you get armor and magic ressist.

Similar like Shield Bash it's mostly only for your passive but it also highers the amount of your healing with W. The best Part about it is that it also highers the healing to your teammates with W.

If you know you will win the matchup you can always start with Dark Seal it's very snowbally and if u manage to get a few stacks you can upgrade it into Mejai's Soulstealer it's high risk high reward.

If it's gotta be a harsh lane or you'll get poked a lot you can always get Doran's Shield to sustain through that lane.

Relic Shield is the best start for Botlane Mordekaiser because you get a lot of healing if your support also starts Relic Shield and you both share a lot of gold. Not only you as "APC/ADC" will be strong but also the support will have enough gold to hold you alive or get item's like Zeke's Convergence to maximize your damage.

Enemys will always build magic ressist against you, to counter that u build magic pen. Sorcerer's Shoes is the cheapest magic pen Item existing in the game u always want to grab them as fast as possible after u got some AP.

Since Mordekaiser isn't very mobile and has no mana costs Rylai's Crystal Scepter is the best choice as first item for Mordekaiser because it offers every stat you want and need.

You always want to get Liandry's Torment second item because it gives u even more HP, you shred through targets who stack HP and for every second while u are in fight u deal 1% more damage. But most importantly it synergyzes with your Ult. Mordekaiser's ult burns the enemy for a few seconds and every second Liandry's Torment burns them a little extra HP.

Spellbinder is a great item if some champs that spam spells really hard are in the game. It gives a lot of AP and Movementspeed even if u don't use the active so thats great. But i only get this if i don't need the extra magic pen of Morellonomicon or Void Staff.

If you roam a lot or enemys have a Twitch, Evelynn or Rengar? With this item you and your team are always aware where they are. Most people see this as a support item, even tho it isn't. It gives 70AP 10% CDR and 7% Movementspeed, the perfect stats for Mordekaiser.

Get this item every game. With this item it doesnt matter if the enemys stack Magic Ressist u will always burst them a lot.

In many matchups it's such a important factor to get this item, you can use your full combo use Zhonya's Hourglass and afterwards you got your cooldowns back up. It's also very important against matchups who can burst u down with a single spell like Darius or Zed. It simply denys them

If u still need magic pen after u bought Void Staff because your team is full ap, or the enemys have a lot of heal like Soraka or Dr. Mundo then Morellonomicon is a great Item, i almost get it every game because u can always need some extra magic pen.

If you want to maximize your damage you can build Rabadon's Deathcap as one of your last items. It gives you a lot of bonus AP, but it also costs a lot of gold and offers no other stats.

It's a viable option because u can proc Sheen multiple times with your low cooldowns. But it's very expensive and not that strong anymore since the Trinity Force + Sterak's Gage combo doesnt work anymore. If you need AD Damage and want to build offtank it's still a option.

If you need more health and AD Damage and play against enemy champion's that burst you within seconds then you can always get Sterak's Gage. It's a very good option vs champions like Riven Wukong Rengar or Darius.

If you need magic resistance the best item is Spirit Visage because it offers you a lot of stats you need and want. The best part about it is the passive of Spirit Visage which gives you more healing and that synergyzes very well with your W.

If the enemy team has a AD comp and you can't manage to survive without building armor and health the best option would be Dead Man's Plate except if your problem are ADC's, a Yasuo or Tryndamere then your item to go is Randuin's Omen because of the crit damage reduction.

Toplane Kaiser

Toplane Morde is the weakest lane for Morde but it's still viable and very strong because of his strong duelling power against meeles. Your job as a toplaner is about putting pressure on the map that forces the enemy team to overcommit resources to deal with you, allowing your team to have an easier time getting things done elsewhere. It's easier to do this if you have teleport since you can force people to come stop your splitpush while being able to threaten joining your team at anytime if a fight breaks out, and it's even easier if you are ahead enough to kill people who come to stop you since they then need to send multiple people to stop you.

You shouldn't be getting caught or putting yourself in a position to get collapsed on if your team isn't already in position to contest an objective by the way, if you die that way without accomplishing anything then you misplayed.

Midlane Kaiser

As Midlaner your job is to roam a lot and get objectives around the map or simply holding the enemy midlaner in lane so he can't do that. If a dragon is up you can always look to gank botlane and secure drake after it. With that drake you can push midlane or botlane tower down and most likely secure first tower gold for your team. Later in the game u always want to stay with your team and don't do any solo action because it's risky and pointless.

Botlane Kaiser

If you play Mordekaiser in the botlane you will most likely play with a Blitzcrank or Thresh because Mordekaiser has no real engage or gap closer u need Hardengage or a hook to reach them. The gameplan is very simple you want to snowball get objectives like dragon and get towers with it. First Round u hook the enemy adc and he will burn his sums. Second Round u hook and kill him. But you always have to be aware that you have all your spells up or you won't have enough damage to kill them.

Mordekaiser has a few different playstyles and jobs in a teamfight. If u play botlane Mordekaiser u have most likely a Blitzcrank in your Team. You can just wait for him to hook a enemy and ult him to turn it into a 6v4 in your favor. Or if you have anything to autoattack nearby you can start the teamfight with hitting your Q twice on a minion or ward and then flashing in with a full combo and oneshot one of the enemys.

League of Legends is a game u have to play a lot to learn it. With playing a simple champion like Mordekaiser you don't have to focus at anything like mechanics and can focus on your decision making and learning. Playing Mordekaiser is very simple but also very effective. He is at a solid position in the current meta and u should play him as long as he is good. No matter if u play him Top/Mid/Jungle or even Botlane bruiser he is a very good and a lot of fun to play.
