Hey everyone, it's your boy
The Ivern God!
The Ivern God!
I am an Ivern main on EUW and NA - peaking at Masters 150+LP in Season 7 & Season 9 - but I am branching out into other champions and lanes, to bring you well presented guides. My IGN is Mattheos (EUW). I hope you find this quick guide helpful, I will try to keep it as fresh as possible and improve it at every opportunity. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or add me in game. Senna is a new type of marksmen, that excels at dealing damage from afar with her infinite scaling due to Absolution, and supporting her allies with global shields from Dawning Shadow. She can be taken into every lane, and is adaptable to how you build, and play, her. I also have a Youtube channel and Twitch Stream. Here, I possibly have content uploaded already which you may find helpful. Alternatively, you can also reach out to me on Twitter or on my Discord. |

The best runes and keystones for Senna in Season 9 & 10, is something I will be continually testing; but I have made a number of pages so far which are viable, relatively strong, and super fun to play.
I believe Fleet Footwork or Electrocute to be the most viable keystones on Senna in toplane. She makes good use of the passive healing from Fleet Footwork, and the increased damage synergizes well with Absolution. She can also make use of Electrocute, if you want to go for a more bursty route, as you can chunk down your opponent with her combos.
Summon Aery is also a very good keystone on Senna, if you want to play more of a hybrid, supportive top laner. Aery adds a nice bit of extra poke onto your abilities and auto attacks - potentially even being that final bit to secure a kill! Summon Aery also provides you, or your allies, with a shield when you heal them with Piercing Darkness, or shield with Dawning Shadow - allowing you to be like a secondary support. I would recommend this if your support has picked a damage orientated champion such as Vel'Koz or Pyke, and you have hyper carries in your comp.
Dark Harvest is a scaling option for late game if you're going to be poking down your enemy laner consistently - for example, a melee laner. You can also collect your Dark Harvest souls from securing kills and/or assists with Dawning Shadow. You primarily will want to focus this rune if you have a late game scaling comp, and expect to burst people down quickly the later the game progresses.
Domination will be your secondary choice if you take Fleet Footwork, due to the healing and/or vision bonuses it provides, along with Ultimate Hunter - which reduces our ultimate's cooldown on every champion takedown, 1 for each enemy. We can stack this easily with our global ultimate snipe.
Resolve is a powerful, defensive rune to take with Summon Aery, offering you extra damage reduction in laning phase with Bone Plating, and extra shielding/healing with Revitalize - if you plan to go a hybrid, support build.
Dark Harvest and Electrocute both benefit from numerous secondary rune sets such as Precision with Triumph, Presence of Mind and Coup de Grace. Sorcery with Manaflow Band, Transcendence, Scorch and Gathering Storm.

Boots of Swiftness, Mercury's Treads, Ninja Tabi or Ionian Boots of Lucidity are your go to boot choices, depending on your lane match up, team composition and what role you will be adapting to play (damage, hybrid). You will want to pick up a Control Ward, and choose which item you are first going to build towards - which we will cover now. |
Item Builds

Athene's Unholy Grail is a fantastic item on Senna if you are going to go the Hybrid route. Senna's Q & R will proc Athene's Unholy Grail and grant your allies a strong, extra burst of healing. You gain CDR ( Transcendence), extra AP giving you a little more damage, and some magic resistance. Summon Aery also procs on movement speed increases, which Curse of the Black Mist provides, and Summon Aery also procs Athene's Unholy Grail! |
|
Redemption offers an aoe heal in an area, adding an health sustain for her allies outside of Piercing Darkness, or on top of. It also offers HP and Mana regen, meaning you can stay in the fights longer, recall less, and you can help out even while dead. It also offers an extra 10% shielding power, which synergizes with your Summon Aery. |
|
Umbral Blade | Umbral Blade is a new item coming with Season 10 that has taken over Duskblade of Draktharr's Blackout passive. You will gain the ability to detect wards and one shot them while Blackout is active, and you also gain more damage, lethality and our favourite stat for Hybrid Senna.. CDR. |
|
Essence Reaver could possibly be one of the best items for Senna, especially if taken with Transcendence. It offers high CDR and mana refund on basic attacks, which has amazing synergy with Absolution and the infinite scaling it provides with your attack range. You also gain 25% critical strike chance, which takes us closer to exceeding the 100% crit cap on Absolution. |
|
Youmuu's Ghostblade offers us lethality, CDR and has an increased movement speed passive, along with a movement speed active that ignores unit collision for 6 seconds. Very good for roaming, and making you slightly more mobile. |
|
Phantom Dancer will help us with survivability, while increasing our attack speed. If you're up vs a lot of AD champions, I would recommend this item as ADC/Supports are generally very squishy, and you are no exception. |
|
Much like Phantom Dancer, this gives us extra survivabilty, but in the way of a second life. Upon taking lethal damage, while off cooldown, Guardian Angel will revive you with 50% of your base health, and 30% base mana. A good item to take if there is an assassin that will be diving the backline, or if there is lethal AoE damage. |
|
The passive from Blade of the Ruined King does 8% of the target's current health bonus physical damage on hit, which stacks with our Absolution passive, allowing us to chunk out enemies at low health - and is especially strong if you take Coup de Grace. You also again life steal (great with Legend: Bloodline & Fleet Footwork, and extra damage. The active of Blade of the Ruined King allows us to slow enemies, while increasing our own movement speed, helping us to catch them slippery foes. |
Absolution
Enemy champions, large minions and large monsters that die near Senna spawn a Mist Wraith for 8 seconds. Epic monsters spawn 2 Mist Wraiths instead. Small minions and lesser monsters have a 20% chance to spawn Mist Wraiths, reduced to 5.5% chance on those that Senna kills. Senna can basic attack a Mist Wraith to destroy it, gaining 3 Gold and collecting its Mist.
Absolution (Passive) ON-TARGET COOLDOWN: 4 seconds |
INNATE -WEAKENED SOUL: Senna's attacks on enemy champions apply Mist for 4 seconds. Senna's next attack collects the Mist and deals 1% − 16% (based on level) of target's current health bonus physical damage. The same target cannot be collected more than once every few seconds. |
ABSOLUTION: Each stack of Mist grants Senna 1 bonus attack damage. For every 20 stacks, Senna also gains 25 bonus range and 15% critical strike chance. Upon exceeding 100% critical strike chance, Senna converts 35% of the excess into life steal. Additionally, Spellthief's Edge grants Adaptive Force instead of ability power.
RELIC CANNON: Senna does not gain attack damage through growth, her basic attack wind-up is only reduced by 0.6% per 1% bonus attack speed, and her critical strikes deal only 30% AD bonus physical damage, but her basic attacks deal 20% AD bonus physical damage and grant her 10 / 15 / 20% of the target's movement speed as bonus movement speed for 0.5 seconds.
Piercing Darkness
Piercing Darkness (Q) RANGE: Senna's current range EFFECT RADIUS: 1300 COST: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 MANA COOLDOWN: 15 seconds |
ACTIVE: Senna fires a spectral laser in the direction of the target unit, healing allied champions hit, and dealing physical damage to non-ward enemies hit by the center of the laser. Enemy champions hit take on-hit effects. |
- Mist Wraith's struck by the beam are collected for Senna.
- Basic attacks reduce Piercing Darkness' cooldown by 1 second.
- Valid targets also include Wards, Turrets, and Jungle plants.
Last Embrace
Last Embrace (W) RANGE: 1150 EFFECT RADIUS: COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 MANA COOLDOWN: 11 seconds |
ACTIVE: Senna throws a globule of Black Mist in the target direction, dealing physical damage and sticking onto the first enemy hit. After a 1 second delay or when the target dies, the Black Mist spreads out of the target, rooting them and nearby enemies for a few seconds. |
Curse of the Black Mist
Curse of the Black Mist (E) EFFECT RADIUS: 400 COST: 70 mana COOLDOWN: 26 / 24.5 / 23 / 21.5 / 20 STEALTH DURATION: 6 / 6.5 / 7 / 7.5 / 8 |
ACTIVE: Senna surrounds herself with an aura of mist for a duration. The mist grants camouflage to Senna and allied champions inside, as well as a Wraith Form that lasts for the remaining duration. Senna's basic attacks and abilities will briefly break her out of camouflage. Wraith Form: Gain 20% bonus movement speed and appear as an obscured wraith to enemies beyond 150 units. Performing a basic attack or casting an ability removes Wraith Form, which cannot be regained for 2 seconds. |
- Wraith Form replaces the model of the champion, rendering it indistinguishable from other champions in Wraith Form.
Dawning Shadow
Dawning Shadow (R) RANGE: Global COST: 100 mana COOLDOWN: 160 / 140 / 120 |
ACTIVE: Senna fires a broad beam of spectral light in the target direction, granting sight of the area, dealing physical damage to enemy champions hit by the center of the beam and afflicting them with Mist. SANCTUARY: Senna and allied champions caught in any part of the area are shielded for 3 seconds. |
- Unbreakable and Wind Wall will negate the entire missile if they block the center beam.
For Senna's early laning phase, you want to be harassing the enemy laner as much as possible with your range advantage, and making sure to pick off the Mist Wraith's that you leave on them after a basic attack. Make sure to keep farming up, and taking any Mist Wraith's that drop off of your last hits - they always drop from cannons, and jungle monsters!
Make sure to be saving your Curse of the Black Mist for escaping potential ganks, and don't waste your root! You have no mobility outside of the small movement speed increase from your shroud, and even though you might be playing in top lane, you're still an ADC (or support!) - meaning immobile!
You can set up ganks from your jungler with your root, and even hide them in your shroud if they're coming with you from base - low elo opponents won't even notice there is another light in there!
Your main goal in laning phase is just to farm safely, and pick off kills if your jungler or mid come to gank you. You also need to make sure to keep an eye on the map, as your ultimate is global, meaning you can safely shield allies from across the map, and net yourself some easy assist gold - or even a kill if you're lucky!
During the mid to late game, you want to be sticking with your team mostly, as said above, you're an immobile, squishy ADC so you need to treat Senna like one. You can't go around split pushing to be jumped on by 3 members, you'll probably die to just one if it's a duelist such as Fiora!
Make sure to stay in the backline of teamfights, allowing the tanks in your team to soak up the damage while you nuke the enemies down from afar. You should have substantial range built up now from your passive, allowing you to stay even further in safety. Try to root as many enemies as possible in your root - it's AoE around the first person to get caught - this is like a more annoying Morgana root (and you didn't think it could get worse!). You can also make sure to use your Q not just through enemies, but to heal your allies as well, making it a very powerful late game tool.
And that's it for our toplane Senna! I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope you managed to learn some stuff! Feel free to check out my other guides, and if you have any feedback then please leave it in the comments!
