[10.22] PH45's In-depth guide to Neeko, The Curious Chameleo

By PH45
Hello, I'm PH45, and this is my Neeko Guide.

My real name is Patrik, but you can call me either way. I am a long time League of Legends player (started back in Season 1). I'm a top lane main but I always like to play a ton of new champs and learn them thoroughly. I've been Diamond since Season 7.

My OP.GG for anyone interested

I also got multiple other accounts but right now I mainly play on my main.

Check out my YouTube channel where I occasionally post League related videos!

Pros

+ Can change looks into any champion to trick opponents
+ Has stealth
+ Has good roams/ganks
+ Has turret pushing potential with W passive
+ Has great burst
+ Has waveclear
+ Amazing ultimate with CC, damage and a shield + it gets hidden if you are camouflaged

Neeko is a very fun and trickstery champion who can trick her opponents into bad fights and situations with her camouflage and burst + CC.
Cons

- Squishy
- No dashes
- Can be predictable
- Has to get in the middle of teamfight with ult
- Falls off in late game a bit
- Mediocre range

Neeko falls off a bit during late game and she can be vulnerable vs longer range mages and ultimately vs assassins.

Flash: Best summoner spell in the game. Flash allows you to escape sticky situations, get over walls or quickly getting in range for your abilties.

Ignite: Good for lanes you want to go aggressive on. This increases your kill pressure a lot on lane.

Cleanse: Good for games where there are high amount of CC on the enemy team. Allows you to escape a gank or maybe setup a good ultimate despite initially getting CC'd.

Smite is mandatory for jungling so if you are jungling take it.

So far I think this is a pretty good page for Neeko. Electrocute helps you burst down people, Taste of Blood and Ravenous Hunter help you with sustain and Eyeball Collection gives you a bit more damage.

As far as secondary tree Sorcery is good since Manaflow Band helps you with mana issues and Transcendence in general is good for the CDR.

  • Inherent Glamour (Passive): Neeko is offered a selection of allied champions to take their appereance. Once selected, there's a 2.5 seconds delay before another champion can be selected. Taking damage or casting Blooming Burst or Tangle-Barbs breaks the illusion and puts Inherent Glamour on a cooldown. Neeko can also choose to change back to herself, putting her passive on a 2 second cooldown.
  • Blooming Burst (Q): Neeko propels a seed into a target area, which blooms after a short delay, dealing magic damage to enemies within.

If the burst kills an enemy unit or damages a champion or large monster, it will bloom again after a short delay, dealing magic damage. This cannot happen more than twice per Blooming Burst.
  • Shapesplitter (W): PASSIVE: Neeko every third basic attack deals bonus magic damage and grants her bonus movement speed for 1 second.

CAST: Neeko becomes invisible for 0.5 seconds, sending a temporary clone of her current form sprinting in a target direction for 3 seconds.

Both Neeko and the clone gain bonus movement speed for 2 seconds.
  • Tangle-Barbs (E): Neeko slings a magical spiral in a target direction, dealing magic damage and rooting the first enemy hit for 0.7/0.9/1.1/1.3/1.5 seconds, 1.8/2.1/2.4/2.7/3 seconds for all other enemies hit.
  • Pop Blossom (R): Neeko starts charging herself, channeling for 1.25 seconds. If Neeko is disguised, enemies won't see her channel. Neeko also shields herself, increased for each enemy champion nearby, as she leaps into the air for 0.6 seconds. Upon landing, Neeko bursts with spiritual energy, dealing magic damage and stunning nearby enemies for 1.25 seconds.

Out of the basic skills you want to max Blooming Burst first as it is your main source of poke and also allows you to waveclear.

Second you max Tangle-Barbs as it's your main source of CC before unlocking your ultimate.

Max Pop Blossom third, taking points on it whenever possible as it's a really strong ability for teamfights. It has a ton of AoE damage, gives you a shield and also slows and stuns nearby enemies.

Max Shapesplitter last. It gives damage on every third auto which is nice, but the other abilities are more useful and that's why we max them first, Shapesplitter is mainly used to confuse enemies.
Doran's Ring
Great starting item for any mage really, gives you some HP, AP, mana regen and also restores some mana for you when you kill an enemy unit which will help you in lane a lot during early game.

Lich Bane
This item works extremely well on Neeko. Combined with the passive on Shapesplitter weaving autos between abilities will deal a lot of damage.

Sorcerer's shoes
Pretty standard boot choice. Gives you magic pen which makes you deal more damage which always helps.

Morellonomicon,
Great item, gives you HP, good amount of HP, magic pen and a healing reduction vs targets you damage.

Rabadon's deathcap, more AP!
Great pickup once you have a couple AP items under your belt. It will increase your damage tremendously and helps you burst people even more.

Luden's echo
Great item as it gives you a lot of mana, some CDR and a nice amount of AP. Core item on Neeko.

Zhonya's Hourglass, the golden touch
Great choice as it gives you a chance to survive any assassins that come your way. Even if the opposing team doesn't have that big of an AD threat still a great pickup just because the active is so good especially in teamfights if you are getting focused down.

Void Staff, what magic resist?
If the opponents are getting some magic resist this is a extremely good item to get,
or even if they aren't getting any still a really good choice.

Liandry's Torment
Gives you good amount of HP and AP. You mostly get this item for the passives though. It helps you so much dealing with tanky champions due to it's passive. Damaging an enemy champion generates one stack every second for the next 4 seconds which makes you deal 2% increased damage for each stack, up to a maximum of 10%. The other passive applies a damage-over-time effect on your opponent with your damaging spells. The damage-over-time effect is doubled vs immobilized and slowed units.

Banshee's Veil
Get this if you are facing a high AP enemy comp/some so called ''flashy'' champions. Also good item for some burst matchups with its magic resist and the spell shield passive.
Neeko is the kind of champion who has many tricks up her sleeve.

First thing is you can hide your ult charge-up with Inherent Glamour. When you are disguised as one of your teammates Pop Blossoms charge-up is hidden, which allows you to get a sneaky ult off potentially.

You can also utilize your passive, disguising as a low HP teammate, or maybe as your support to bait an enemy into a bad fight, and then suddenly burst them with your damage.

You can also confuse your enemies by disguising into your jungler and roaming to other lanes, making them confused about your junglers position, potentially scoring you a free objective or a gank on the opposing side of the map in the meantime.

Apparently you can also use Zhonya's Hourglass during the ult charge-up and the ult will still go through, it is not sure if it's intended or not so might get fixed in future patches.

It's obviously still super early so not all tricks have been discovered/though of, will add more here when I figure stuff out and actually play her more in the live servers.

Neeko has a pretty good early laning, with her Blooming Burst she can poke around the opponents and if Blooming Burst procs again if it kills a target (like a minion) it will clear the wave faster and also might damage the opposing laner. When you get level 2 potentially look for a Tangle-Barbs root so you can freely get off procs on Blooming Burst. Once you get Shapesplitter you can also start using your every third auto to poke your opponent due to it dealing extra damage.

You should always keep vision around you in mid lane when possible and save your Shapesplitter for escape as it's your only escape ability excluding your Flash.

Once mid game arrives you should have an item or two attained already. This is the point where Neekos roaming potentiality starts to really shine, as you can trick your opponents by disguising into your jungler and just doing overall sneaky stuff with your transformations, just remember to let your team know so they don't blow your cover by showing up while you are transformed etc. Your Blooming Burst allows you to clear mid wave pretty quick so you don't lose a ton of CS and experience while you are roaming.

When late game starts arriving you should start looking to close the game if possible. Neeko starts falling off a bit during the later parts of the game as she is relatively low ranged so it will be hard for her to deal damage reliably due to her getting poked and bursted down easily. Neekos teamfighting power is still fine and as late game is about teamfights a lot you have still potential to shine.

Make sure to wait out any abilities that could screw you over/wait out the enemies dashes so you can hit as many targets with your Pop Blossom as possible.
Neeko is a really fun and diverse champion, as you can do a lot of sneaky and cool tricks and strategies with your camouflage mechanic. She has good laning strength with her waveclear using Blooming Burst. Her roams are great due to her being able to disguise herself and also she has great teamfighting power thanks to her ultimate (it's quite overloaded though).

Any feedback on this guide is highly appriciated, I will be updating this constantly whenever there is something to update or new ways of playing Neeko are discovered.

Have great time disguising yourself as your teammates and blowing your opponents minds as Neeko!
