Introduction

Why Choose Varus?

Is a high damage pick with utility with his Hail of Arrows and Chain of Corruption. Varus has the lane dominance, and ability to get picks, dish out damage to tanks due to mixed damage with Blighted Quiver. He is able to able to provide poke and burst damage. Is also high range dealing with people under tower, and is a playmaker if behind, and excels at ending mid game.

Runes

This is the best keystone for ADC right now as it provides a great amount of sustain and a burst of movement speed.
Takedowns restore 12% of your missing health and grant an additional 20 gold. This is arguably the best rune. This can keep you alive from Ignite or another champion.
Takedowns on enemies grant permanent Attack Speed. This is good for scaling into late game and have overall DPS
Deal more damage to low health enemy champions. This is good for securing kills, and executing low HP enemies with your Blighted Quiver and Piercing Arrow.

Gain increasing amounts of AD or AP, adaptive over the course of the game. This is good as it gives you a decent late game, and you scale well over the course of the game.

Gain 3% extra MS. Gain extra AP or AD, adaptive based on your bonus MS. This is good for ADC's because you gain extra move speed helping how immobile most ADC's are.

Summoner Spells

Flash is a must on almost all ADC's in all situations. It provides an escape or an engage on all champions. This is especially true for Varus because he is able to Flash Chain of Corruption the enemy champion as an engage.

Heal is used on 99% of ADC's. It is the perfect defensive summoner replacing Barrier because of its AoE heal, which is perfect for you, and your support. Heal also provides a slight burst of movement speed giving giving you an offensive of defensive option for the summoner.

Abilities

Living Vengeance, On kill or assist, Varus temporarily gains Attack Speed. This bonus is larger if the enemy is a champion.
Piercing Arrow, This ability allows you to get harass and poke in lane, as well as late game. Later in the game you use this to pop your blight stacks applying good burst damage late game. You will rarely ever charge it to full range.
Blighted Quiver, This ability is a passive and an active. Your auto attacks do bonus magic damage, and can apply 3 stacks. You can pop those stacks using Piercing Arrow. The active part empowers your Piercing Arrow doing damage based on enemy missing HP.
Hail of Arrows, allows for hard to dodge harass in lane. This ability also lowers the amount of healing someone gets if they are sitting in the AoE. This ability also applies a slow which is good for utility later on.
Chain of Corruption, this ability snares the first person it hits, and other champions around the area of the snared person, after 3 seconds they will also be snared. This ability is a great team fighting initiation, and group cc. This also helps you make your crucial picks late game.

How to play Varus

So how should you play Varus?

In lane: You want to level your Hail of Arrowsin most situations since it is very hard to miss in lane, and works well with trading efficiently. At this point you want to be pushing for level 2 immediately. At level 2 you level your Blighted Quiver to do more damage per auto. After nerfs, leveling Piercing Arrow does not provide as much damage. Level 3 is where you are strongest in lane as Varus has his burst combo, where you quickly get 3 stacks of Blighted Quiver and you pop the stacks.

After level 6/ After laning phase: This point in the game is most crucial for Varus to preform. Mid game is where you shine most with getting picks and sieging down towers after getting picks. At this point in the game you should have your completed so you should be able to shred towers. Varus tends to fall off in the late game so you must be able to get your picks mid-game especially if you are against a hyper-carry like, Twitch, or Jinx.
