AP Midalee! ~ By RuKKor ~

Context: Who I Am
Starting in season 3 when I was 10, I mainly played who I felt like, particularly Riven, Lux, Caitlyn and Jinx. Up until now I haven't tried finding my 'mains', now focusing on mid lane and improving my skill with Qyiana, Lissandra, Leblanc, Ahri and Nidalee. Because I hadn't had time to play ranked (and still don't), I've always hovered around Bronze-Silver, particially because I never understood game sense and also due to my inability to play often. However, as shown by my match history, I have had an impressive win-percentage this season, also winning 8/10 placement matches by playing my new mains. This is my first time writing a guide, fyi :P
Ability Breakdown
Nidalee's Abilities:

Passive: Prowl:
Moving through brush increases Nidalee's Move Speed by 10% for 2 seconds, increased to 30% toward visible enemy champions within 1400 range. Hitting champions or monsters with Javelin Toss or Bushwhack triggers a Hunt, granting True Sight of them for 4 seconds. During this time, Nidalee gains 10% Move Speed (increased to 30% toward the Hunted target) and her Takedown and Pounce are enhanced against them.

Human-Form Abilities:
Q: Javelin Toss
In human form, Nidalee throws a spiked javelin projectile, damaging the first target hit. Damage is increased by 0-200% depending on the distance travelled.
RANGE: 1500
WIDTH: Range model.png 80
SPEED: 1300
COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 MANA
COOLDOWN: 6 Seconds
MINIMUM DAMAGE: 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 / 150 (+ 50% AP)

W: Bushwrack:
A non-targeted trap that, when placed, takes 1.5 seconds to arm (then becoming stealthed) and damages the first target when walks over it. When placed it grants temporary sight, and lasts for 120 seconds. It deals damage over 4 seconds when triggered.
DAMAGE TYPE: Magic Damage
COST: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 MANA
COOLDOWN: 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 Seconds
Magic Damage per-tick: 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 (+ 5% AP)

E: Primal Surge:
A champion-targeted heal which revitilises the HP of the champion it was casted on (Either Nidalee or an allied champion), giving temperorary bonus attack speed for 7 seconds. This heal is increased by between 0-100% base upon the target's missing health.
COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 MANA
COOLDOWN: 12 Seconds

R: Aspect of the Cougar
COUGAR FORM: Nidalee transforms into a cougar, gaining Melee melee attacks with 125 range and access to her cougar abilities.

HUMAN FORM: Nidalee transforms into a human, gaining ranged attacks with 525 range and access to her human abilities. While in Human Form, applying a Hunted Hunted mark will Cooldown reduction reset Aspect of the Cougar's cooldown.
COOLDOWN: 3 Seconds

Cougar-Form Abilities:
Q: Takedown
An execute which gives Nidalee and empowered auto-attack with 75 bonus range. Damage is increased by every 1% of the target's missing health, with the minimum damage applied to turrets. Hunted targets recieve a bonus 40% extra damage and takedown reset's Nidalee's Auto attack timer, allowing for AA cancels.
DAMAGE TYPE: Magic Damage
DAMAGE SCALING TYPE: Magic & Physical Damage
MINIMUM BONUS DAMAGE: 5 / 30 / 55 / 80 (+ 75% AD) (+ 40% AP)
BONUS DAMAGE: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75%
PROWL BONUS DAMAGE: 7 / 42 / 77 / 112 (+ 105% AD) (+ 56% AP)

W: Pounce:
Active: Nidalee dashes a fixed distance in the targeted direction, dealing Area-of-Effect damage when landing. Nidalee's passive gives 'W' a larger radius which targets champions when they are marked by the 'hunted' passive through either a human Q or W. Killing a unit in cougar form or using 'W' on a 'hunted' target reduces its cooldown to a minimum value. This ability scales with 'Aspect of the Cougar's rank.
DAMAGE TYPE: Magic Damage
TARGET RANGE: 375 / 750
EFFECT RADIUS: 200 / 250
REDUCED COOLDOWN: 3 / 2.5 / 2 / 1.5
MAGIC DAMAGE: 60 / 110 / 160 / 210 (+ 30% AP)

E: Swipe:
Nidalee slashes and deals magic damage in an arc in the targeted direction. This hits any targets in the Area-of-Effect radius. This ability scales with 'Aspect of the Cougar's rank.
DAMAGE TYPE: Magic Damage
ANGLE: 180°
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 140 / 200 / 260 (+ 45% AP)

Descriptions from the Official League of Legends website, League Wikia & statistics from League-Wikia have been used.
Playstyle: Early Laning
Early laning should be pretty simple in thoery. Poke the melee champions with autos and look for easy engages when they're 50% HP or below, whilst trying to surprise long-rage mages from odd angles in the river or behind walls. However, each champion has their own gimick, and so laning will be different everytime. Despite this, some tips for wining early game ae as follow:
1. Bully melee match-ups incessently with Doran's Blade AAs regardless if they have D.Shield. Eventually you can zone them out of XP to gain a greater lead ready for future engages or roams. These lanes will often result in you having more dark harvest stacks than others.
2. Against long-range mages, rarely enter cougar form unless you are attempting to dodge spells or if you're about to engage. This puts you at a range disadvangage that makes you easier to bully. Try to farm in human-form, using javelin tosses as minions are about to die or between them to surprise the enemy (as the animation is very similar to your AA and has a surprisingly thin hitbox).
3. Against CC-Heavy match-ups like Vex or Ahri, bait out their most important CC. This can be done by landing a Q or W, and making it appear you want to engage but walking up. After this, you are free to go wild! (like the pun? :P)
4. Against wave-clear lanes like Lux, Vex or Malzahar, soak up XP and look for invades with your jungler or quick roams top/ bot. This is how you get your lead and can impact the map more efficiently.
Playstyle: Mid-Game
This is when you should already have a lead. If not, you need to forget about your lane and focus on helping everyone else on the map secure kills. Return to your lane in between picks or securing objectives like Herald and Dragon.

I often feel that helping bot-lane and its' effectiveness often depends on the champions they are playling; for example, helping a Samira with an engage-heavy support will be better than an Ashe with a Jannah. If you have a passive bot-lane like the latter, focus on helping your junlger and top lane, as they will usually scale quicker into the mid and late game. When you have a duelist skirmisher top-lane, helping them get ahead is much more important than securing your own lead, as they will be more effective and for a longer period throughout the match.

If your jungler has a greater synergy (CC) as illustrated previously, roaming for invades or ganks will be very effective and can secure greater pressure throughout the map. This will also increase the enemy team's sense pf risk when attempting to take objectives, deincentivising them from attempting them and giving more opportunities for your team to. Ultimately, you are an aggressive champion who needs kills more than minions, often having a smaller cs than other teammates and enemies but higher kills. This, with Treasure Hunter, will make sure your gold income is stable and you scale well throughout the mid game - furthered by dark harvest.

Of course, chose your engages accordingly, making sure you have opportunities to engage with your spear, have CC-heavy champions to secure your spear engages and the back-up damage of an ADC or jungler. Often, Midalee excells in wittling down the enemies' HP over time before engaging, with correct positioning far back and behind walls preventing engages and maximising the time they're taking spears. One example of this is at dragon. If you're on the red-side and set up before the enemy team, you will have multiple walls within the pit, inside the river and by Krugs that can pierce their HP bars and prevent them challenging for objectives. This also helps illustrate how Nidalee, regardless of role, requires your team to be aware of your strenghts, weaknesses and be mindful of their own positioning and how it impacts your playstyle.
Playstyle: Late-Game
At this point, Nidalee falls of regardless of her role, and therefore you become an artillery mage that centers on peeling for your own team and helping establish objective control by through spears from the fog of war. While your spear will deal up to 1,200-1,300K damage at max range depending on your build, this probably won't be enough to one-shot a shieldbow ADC with your courgar combo. Therefore, one example to remain useful is placing traps during teamfights while the enemy is distracted, helping to catch low-health enemies ready to be executed by a Cougar-WQ.
Combos & Tips:
General Tips for Ability Usage:
1. Your W (Bushwrack) should be used on the edges and corners of walls, as the majority of people hug walls to roam more efficiently, with one example being in Mid-lane. Here, by placing your W where the mid-lane wall enters the lane, you can catch the enemy after they've warded the brush or river. You can also place your W immediately as a minion is about to die, with their death animation hiding the abiliy, helping to set-up for a future engage.

2. Your Javeline Toss should be used to zone enemies off of objectives or entrances to the river or a lane, not just for damage. As it does so much damage, you can use this to prevent enemies from escaping ganks or a push-up lane when roaming either bot-lane or top-lane.
- As mentioned previously, using W between minions or as they die can surprise long-range match-ups, as they are inexperiences to how Nidalee works and how small the hitbox on her human-Q really is.

3. With Cloud Drake soul, using your R to change form as you roam or look to migrate for objectives is the best way to make use of the soul. As you can use the ability to no extra cost, you gain much more mobility than otherwise.

General Combos for Nidalee
A. <Human> Q (Spear) -> <Cougar> -> W (Pounce) -> Q (Takedown) -> E (Swipe)
While you might feel more inclined to use Nidalee's cougar-E prior to her Q, this is much slower and can result in you being stuned before finishing your Combo. Using Q first reduces the animation time waiting between damage.

B. <Human> W -> E
Nidalee's W (Bushwrack) animation can be cancelled with her E, helping to increase damage output or trick opponents into thinking you only used your heal.

C. <Human> AA (Auto Attack) -> Q (Spear) -> <Cougar> -> W (Pounce) -> Q (Takedown) -> E (Swipe).
This is the same as Combo 'A', but incormporates an AA into the begining. While this can help secure a kill, The added AA can be cancelled with your Q, either making the enemy mistake the Spear for a regular auto attack or just not expect it.
Note that AAs should be incorporated into extended trades in between abilities.

D. Cougar Animation Cancels!:
Cougar animation cancels are endless, but the most useful in my experience has been: <Cougar> W (Pounce) -> R (Aspect of the Cougar) -> <Human> Q (Spear). This gives the bonus of an animation cancel and an unexpected Nidalee Spear. This cancels the spear's animation, making it mor unpredictable and easier to land in some situations. This can also be used when trying to escape, helping to throw back an spear in hopes of deterring the enemy.
