Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hi there everyone, and welcome to this guide for Cho Gath solo top. I wrote this guide because of the recent new changes to the masteries. Also, after numerous trials using this build, it has brought me quite successful in pvp and would like to share this build with everyone. I hope you will all find this guide useful as Cho Gath is one of my favorite champions due to his superb tankiness and strong cc if done correctly.
Runes are very standard for tanky champions and Cho Gath is no exception
9 Greater Mark of Insight as Cho is a ap tank and these early magic penetration will help him.
9 Greater Seal of Resilience for the early defence, for those early ad harass
1 Greater Glyph of Warding for the early magic resist
8 Greater Glyph of Shielding for late game magic resist
2 Greater Quintessence of Fortitude for early game sustainability on solo top
1 Greater Quintessence of Resilience - this last quint can be whatever you like, in this case i went armor.
I went with 22 in defense to give Cho Gath the more tankiness he needs early game as a solo top champion. The key mastery i take in the mastery tree are the ones that boost Cho's running speed as he is very very slow. Therefore i put 8 point sin utility to ensure he walks faster.
I start off with a regrowth pendant and one potion and try to stay in lane as much as possible while last hitting mobs. On return i finish the philosopher stone and grab mercury boots if possible. The second item i get is the catalyst to provide early health boost and build the kindlegem and late upgrade into a shurelya reverie. After these items, your feast should be accumulating upwards towards 6 and you would want to keep that 6x feast so guardian angel is a necessity on Cho Gath. Finally the last two slots are optional depending on the opponent's team composition as AP dominant or AD dominant.
The key thing is to farm on solo top and feral scream is the way to go along with your vorpal spikes. I max feral scream to easily clean up large waves of minions. Althought you shouldn't be spamming your feral scream that much, it is helpful to clear the creep wave if you ar ebeing pushed towards the tower. After feral scream i max vorpal spikes to ensure easy last hitting and max feast whenever i can and to accumulate it to feast 6x. I put one point in rupture as a cc for ganking and maxing it last as your other skills are more beneficial.
Thanks for reading this guide, as this is my first and there will possibly more edits that will be done later to it. This guide is mainly based on the item builds and the skill level ups.
Please try this guide out with the following masteries and runes along with items if possible and i encourage to give me feedback on what i can do better.
Here's a couple of my recent games i used this build and was quite successful.
