By DixonTheGuideMaker
INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone and welcome to one of my guides! This guide contains useful information and general knowledge based on my own game experience + many open source info about the champ 💡📚📈🔍

My name is Max, but you can call me Dixon as well. I'm from Ukraine so English is not my native language and I can do some mistakes (I'm sorry for that). However, you can also write me comments and I'm able to answer you in English, German, Russian and Ukrainian languages since I understand all of them, but in different levels of knowledge. 😄

I started to play League of Legends in 2016. My highest ELO at the moment is Platinum 2 (soloQ) and 💎Diamond 4 (flexQ) on EU-West server (top 5% best players at the server).

I would like to invite you to subscribe to my YouTube channel where I'm going to make a lot of League of Legends content in English: https://www.youtube.com/c/DixonGames/videos
You will also find my streams on Twitch by following this link:
https://www.twitch.tv/dixon_leagueoflegends

I'm not a hardcore high elo player, but I enjoy this game and share this passion with all the people who find my content as interesting or useful.

I hope this guide will help you to improve your champion's understanding so it would be more fun to play!

Let me know in the comments section if you find any mistakes or outdated information so I could fix it! Thanks in advance!

Have a nice reading! 📖🤓
PROS / CONS
Pros:
- With the help of the ultimate you can delete one enemy champion from the battle.
- Or you can turn a 1v2 or 1v3 fight into 1v1.
- Great magic damage even if a more tanked build is used.
- Excellent AOE damage.
- A very strong mid game champion.
- The character is not difficult to understand and play.
- Abilities do not use mana.

Cons:
- Poor mobility. The only thing that Mordekaiser has in his arsenal is a slight acceleration from the passive, but this is clearly not enough.
- Mordekaiser can be easily kited by enemies using ranged attacks or some form of control.
- At the early stage of the game he is far from the strongest character and he can be outplayed by some champions. So it takes time to get strengh.
- Initially Mordekaiser seems simple, but for a really masterful game you will have to play a lot and constantly practice.
ABILITIES
Mordekaiser's skills do not cost mana and you are only limited to cooldown. This is a clear plus for the champion and due to this, you do not have to worry about mana regen at all and do not spare abilities when playing on the lane, but of course you need to use them wisely.

is incredibly cool passive that combines several positive qualities at once. First, each Mordekaiser's attack deals additional magic damage. And the scaling is pretty good. If you have any source of magical vampirism, then it will work for bonus magical damage. Considering the fact that for Mordekaiser is bought items for ability power, the bonus damage will really be felt. Second, when Mordekaiser hits enemy champions (or large monsters) with three basic attacks or skills he gains a buff. Under the influence of this buff a kind of whirlwind is created around the champion, which inflicts not only quantitative damage, but also a percentage depending on the enemy's health. It is very easy to activate the passive as even one successful use of Obliterate or Death's Grasp can give you the three charges you need. The passive is in effect for a full 5 seconds and the duration will be longer if you continue to deal damage. In a battle this passive not only deals good damage, but also allows you to restore health well due to magical vampirism. By the way, the passive goes very well with the Conqueror rune. If you buy the artifact Rylai's Crystal Scepter, then the created vortex will slow down enemies. Passive also goes very well with Demonic Embrace. Thirdly, having received the Darkness Rise buff Mordekaiser gets a bonus to movement speed, which is very good.

this is the main combat ability of Mordekaiser which deals good damage in area and has a relatively small cooldown. If you hit with the ability only one target, then in this case the damage will be increased. I want to draw your attention to the fact that when you hit one target, it will no longer be considered an AOE ability, but a skill that deals damage to one target. Some items will work a little differently because of this. The ability is applied with a slight delay which is a disadvantage, but in principle you can get used to it. It's a little bit annoying that the ability has not the largest width of the affected area, but otherwise the skill would be too strong. The ability can be combined with Flash. In this case the affected area will be further and thus you can, for example, finish off the fleeing enemy. I advise you to definitely practice in a special mode before using this feature in a regular match.

is a skill for protection. Dealing and receiving damage Mordekaiser charges a shield (a bar is shown under the health) and upon the first use the shield will be activated. The maximum strength of the shield is equal to 30% of Mordekaiser's health, which is not very bad. With help of the shield you can, for example, block some powerful enemy ability or absorb a tower shot. Due to the shield, Mordekaiser can very profitably exchange attacks on the lane, losing less health. If necessary, the shield can be converted to health. Even just playing on the lane, you can actively use the healing effect. For example, you started a fight and activated the shield, but the enemy moved back at long distance. In this case, it makes sense to reuse the skill and restore some of your health. After all, if you do not do this, the shield will still disappear after a while.

this skill is the main control tool in Mordekaiser's arsenal and works very interestingly. The trick is that you can not only pull enemies, but you can also adjust the pull zone. For example, if you use the ability to the maximum distance, then you will simply pull enemies towards you. And if you use the ability from a minimum distance, then in this case the enemies will be thrown behind your back. With the help of this ability you can pull enemies out from behind a wall or to throw them over an obstacle. For some reason new players use the skill exclusively as a tool for initiating a battle or in order to stop a fleeing enemy. But the skill has another good use. For example, you stand on the line and see an enemy jungler coming out of the jungle. You understand that you cannot fight now and you need to retreat. You can throw the ability under your feet and if the enemies are running after you, they will be thrown back. The method is very effective and if everything is done correctly then you will instantly stop the enemy's attack and the enemy jungler's gang will completely fail.

Mordekaiser's ultimate is one of the most unusual and spectacular in the game. A large number of different mechanics are associated with it, but we will analyze the most basic ones. The ult itself works very simply. When activated, you steal part of the enemy's characteristics and are transported to another world, where you actually fight in the arena. In this case, only you and your rival will be only living beings on the arena. All objects and structures will remain. Moreover, the towers will still be active. It will be risky to jump under the enemy tower and kill the enemy in the arena. But you can open an arena next to your tower, and in this case the allied tower will help you very much. In rare cases the ultimate can be used to exclude other enemies (leaving only one) and, for example, finish off an enemy inhibitor. Your enemy can avoid the ultimate with the help of the abilities Battle Roar, Ragnarok, Remove Scurvy, Unbreakable Will and Quicksilver Sash. These are the most obvious ways, although there are more. So you shouldn't be surprised that you used your ultimate, but nothing happened and the ability went to recharge. Ultimate of Mordekaiser allows you to turn off one enemy from the battle and there are a lot of options. You can try to send an enemy damage dealer or some other annoying enemy to the arena. There are situations when one player carries his entire team and by enclosing such a champion you automatically give a huge advantage to your allies. Sometimes it is not even necessary to kill the enemy, it is enough just to hold him in the arena, and your allies at this time will cut out the entire enemy team and then calmly destroy the last enemy champion. In rare cases the ultimate can be used in order to avoid some huge damage. After all, abilities from another world do not work in the arena. The main advantage of the ultimate is that the ability is truly versatile and can be applied in different ways. At the same time one correct usage of the ultimate can instantly turn the tide of battle and even lead you to victory in the game. You can use Death's Grasp and quickly cast Realm of Death and it's going to be very hard for the enemy to dodge your Death's Grasp since Realm of Death applies 75% slow for 0.5 sec. And don't waste your Ultimate on targets who are going to die in 1 sec anyway!
BUILDS & ITEMS

Riftmaker's passive true damage helps take down durable enemies as well as giving slight burst against fragile enemies with the increased damage. Since omnivamp applies to true damage, this means it also provides an exceptional amount of healing. These are very useful for battle mages. Constantly dealing damage to enemy champions is required in order to maintain combat and activate Riftmaker's passive. Persistent damage such as Ignite will help to keep the passive powered up throughout the duration of the fight.

buy this item to get nice amount of additional HP that will help you survive enemy's ability combo + you will be able to apply slow effects by your damaging abilities.

makes a good couple with Liandry's Torment. This is a perfect item for champions with AOE abilities and works also well against champions who buy ot stack a lot of HP during a game.

is most effectively used against abilities that have a downtime before they can affect full damage to the target like Chum the Waters, Unleashed Power, Death Mark, Life Form Disintegration Ray, Death Lotus etc.

is a particularly effective defensive option when facing down opponents whose damage is dealt primarily through basic attacks, or against opponents that utilize healing from attacks to survive fights (such as life steal). It's very useful against such champions like Aatrox, Warwick, Nasus, Darius etc.

is most commonly used by champions to protect against magical damage and to enhance healing effects. These effects include normal healing or some form of health regeneration. In other words, you will be healed more by your allies and you will heal yourself much more effectively. Also the effects of life steal will restore more health. Its passive works well with any champion that has self-healing, self-shield, omnivamp, or life steal built into their kit.

is one of the best items for those champions who benefit from ability power, attack speed and auto-attacks.

buy this item if you want to cut enemy's healings, life steal and vampirism. Together wiith Liandry's Torment the Grievous Wounds time can be extended for an additional 4 seconds.

is a strong counter against basic auto-attackers that stack well on critical strike chance, like Yasuo, Tryndamere, Yone and most of marksmen. You should consider to buy this item if the enemy team 2 or more champions who rely on critical strike damage.

buy this item if you want to have nice movement speed to roam across the map or to split push. The item provides also some HP and magic resistance that makes it a good choice for tanks and bruisers who lack mobility. It's also a good option against teams with lots of champions with magical type of damage.

is a good choice for those mages who have low mobility, but desperately need it.

Champions that need to quickly escape team fights or, vice versa, chase down escaping enemy champions will greatly benefit from the Tenacity and movement speed bonuses. Escapees will lower the risk of being pinned or killed by enemy slows or roots, and chasers will be able to keep up better with slows and traps being used against them.

are very useful against heavy AD teams or particular AD champions with strong auto-attacks. If the enemy team has at least one auto-attack based champion, you can buy these boots. However, if there is no auto-attackers at all, you can spend your money to buy other boots.
RUNES
is a usual keystone for most bruisers. It gives sustain and adaptive damage depending on long trades. The rune is a great for Mordekaiser since it allows you to dominate in longer trades, you can also stack it extremely fast using your Passive and get some easy healing.

the rune gives you extra sustain after killing opponents or getting assists. You also get an extra 20 gold from takedowns that allows to buy items faster and at the end of the day this rune is simply better for Mordekaiser than Overheal or Presence of Mind.

gives your champion good amount of tenacity. This is especially good on the TOP lane where a lot enemies have CC. This rune is the best option among others. However, if you know that the enemy team has not many CC abilities than you can take Legend: Alacrity instead for bigger damage in a hand-to-hand fight.

this rune is simply better for bruisers than Coup de Grace or Cut Down.

is a very helpful rune for laning phase. Take it when you expect your enemy to deal damage to you all the time. It's great against Kayle, Vladimir, Teemo, Quinn, Neeko, Jayce, Kennen etc. This rune can be chosen for the second rune tree. I prefer this rune more often than others. It helps so well together with Doran's Shield to survive first 15 minutes of the game.

is a good protective option against champions with fast burst damage like Renekton or Riven.

is a good scaling rune that makes you more tanky in the late game. You can take it if there is no need to get Second Wind or Bone Plating for the early game.

is a useful late game rune that will give you 200+ HP. This rune can also be chosen for the second rune tree.

is probably the best option for Mordekaiser because it works well with your ability Indestructible.
SUMMONER SPELLS
+
Flash is the most frequent choice of all players in League of Legends. Such popularity of the spell is caused by the fact that Flash is able to instantly teleport you on a short distance. This distance is enough to dodge some hostile abilities or to jump back and avoid an unexpected gank. With the help of Flash, you can overcome various obstacles like walls, pillars and other different obstacles. Flash is equally good to use for both attack and defense. This gives the spell some versatility. The summoner spell cannot be used if you have been silenced (you cannot use skills for some time). Also, Flash cannot be used under the effect of hard control abilities such as stun or fear.

Teleport is mainly used to minimize laning downtime after Recall or respawning, to prevent enemy laners from gaining an advantage. Teleport is also used to quickly switch lanes to defend an unguarded turret. Unleashed Teleport is great for ganking if the enemy commits to a fight and is around friendly minions, turrets, or wards. Another use for Unleashed Teleport is a backdoor maneuver where a high damage per second champion places a ward inside or near the enemy base and teleports himself to that ward. From there that champion will attempt to bring down as many turrets and inhibitors as possible. Unleashed Teleport can be used to prolong or save the life of an allied Zac by making one of Zac's Passive's drops ( Cell Division) invulnerable for the Teleport duration.

+
Ignite provides players an offensive utility and damage spell that scales with level. A well-placed healing reduction debuff from Ignite can severely limit the effectiveness of enemy healing items, as well as healing abilities from champions like Soraka, Aatrox, Vladimir, Volibear, and Warwick. It is considered a direct counter to Dr. Mundo, Soraka, Aatrox and Swain because they are reliant on their healing-based abilities. The healing reduction debuff also applies to life steal, omnivamp, etc.
GAMEPLAY INFORMATION & TIPS
After a global rework Mordekaiser settled confidently on the top lane. The champion can be also played in MID or jungle, but this is a little bit more difficult. To my opinion, Mordekaiser is slow for jungle role and lacks control for ganks. I advise you to start with the top line and when you get comfortable you can try other positions.

During the initial phase of the game, do not try to play too aggressively. Especially if you are just learning Mordekaiser. Stand calmly on the lane, keep an eye on the enemy and try to farm as much as possible. It is very important to buy key items as soon as possible, i.e. Rylai's Crystal Scepter, Demonic Embrace and Riftmaker. Mordekayser's abilities have a good increase in damage from ability power and after purchasing the first artifacts you will immediately notice how your damage has noticeably increased. It is highly desirable to learn how to control the minions on the lane. To understand when to push and when it is better to freeze the lane closer to your tower. These skills will allow you to stand more calmly up to level 6, even if the enemy is playing very aggressively and does not allow you to farm in peace. Be sure to pay attention to the minimap and at least try to imagine where the enemy jungler may be. If you have no wards and you didn't see jungler for a long time, so it's better to not go far away from your tower. In the case of a gank Mordekaiser can only rely on Flash and the well-used Death's Grasp. But if you are too far from your tower, then these tools will not help either. When you open the ultimate and at least some items appear in your pocket, then you will feel more relaxed on the lane. The trick is that even if two enemies attack you, you can use the ultimate and fight the enemy 1vs1. After buying the first complete item try to act more aggressively and if the ult is ready to use, then you can even start actively pushing the lane. Mordekaiser's peak of power comes around the middle of the game. So the beginning of the game we try to prepare for this and then we start to dominate hard.

If allies want a fight, then try to take part in it. Especially when there is a struggle for some important object like a Dragon or Herald\Baron. Mordekaiser is really interesting in getting dragons or barons. As a rule, when an epic monster has very little health left, then the junglers on both sides try to use Smite and finish off the target. At this moment, Mordekaiser can withdraw the enemy jungler from the fight by his ult and give him no chances left for smiting the monster. Even if at the late stage of the game you will not have enough damage or protection, you will be able still to turn fights due to the ultimate. Of course, this flexibility makes the champion more challenging. After all, you need to constantly monitor all opponents and use your ult wisely.
