I may be a dumb noob but I still don't get what AP MF can be good for. Her Q and R all scale MUCH harder with AD than AP. Only her E scales with AP but not AD, however, 10% AP is next to nothing. So, to sum up, it would seem that AD MF will have strong autos AND strong damage from spells, while AP MF will have weak autos and weaker damage from spells than AD MF anyway, with the sole exception of E, but again, its ONLY 10% AP, which is few. Why am I wrong in thinking that building AP on MF weakens autos AS WELL AS skills?

Well first, E has a total of 80% AP scaling, and 10% per tick (8 ticks total, if you position E well you should hit most of them). With that in mind, the main strength of this build comes from the fact that MF gets a substantial poke on her highest range ability, which is also easy to hit. This makes her quite safe to play.

Now for the scaling on Q and R being weaker. This is partially offset by the fact that you can generally acquire more AP than AD. And my build is actually hybrid because it includes Hextech Gunblade and Mortal Reminder!

And lastly, MF's kit (Q and E) allows to make a really good use of spell and on-hit effects (Liandry's, Luden's, Lich bane, Nashor's etc.). You should just give it a try, it's a really fun build honestly.

well to talk about the guide contenant its perfectly done runes and items but to make an adc go ap such mf full ap its wrong its not very good as much as when it goes for full AD lethalety, i played her AD and its so far better dealing damage than AP based on abilities.

Hey there! Been using this guide for a little while, thanks for introducing me to a really fun playstyle! Just wondering how much success you're having with the new runes. Do you think these new runes are better or worse for AP MF than the old ones? Off-hand, it seems like a buff since Arcane Comet, Scorch and Cheap Shot all synergize so well with her.

I feel the preseason changes as a buff, Make it Rain does more damage than before and laning phase is very strong currently. New runes provide more stats and synergy than before.

I'm seeing MF support consistently through the guides but no justification why she becomes a support. Her E is a slow and her W is only a personal escape. I can't see why anyone would take an MF support over a sona support who has group escape, a heal, and a decent poke.

I love your creative guide, so that's why I'm asking. I tried your MF mage build earlier in season 7 and found it relatively accessible for a newer player.

MF got picked as a support at last year's worlds because she performs well against Zyra. But otherwise she's not a real support, you want to get early kills and she functions as a secondary carry. But AP MF is best at mid lane, because she can farm and it is a shorter and therefore a safer lane.

tldr : what would be the ideal item in the "final build example" to replace with a defensive item? also, opinions on black cleaver + nashor's?

I feel like one of the biggest issues of AP MF is that you need a lot of stats, and you can only own 6 items. you need hextec gunblade because it's your bread and butter, you need boots or you'll feel like an old lady crossing the street, you need nashors/lb or your Q and W will feel kinda bad, you need 2 pen items because you deal both magic and physical damage, and you need rabadons to amplify your damage.

but what if they have a zed? having no zhonyas against him feels horrible, and it feels like AP MF gets hit hard if she has to build a defensive item. of course, staying alive is better than starring at the grey screen, but other mages don't need that much specific items. so, what would be the item of less importance in this build? i feel like it's rabadons, but i feel the need to ask again because im still not done with spamming the comment section of your amazing guide with questions about the meaning of life ( the last part is a joke lol )

Also, have you tested nashor's and black cleaver ( replace mortal reminder with it )? idk, it just feels so good. Your autos matter a lot more and so does your q.

You don't even need the CDR boots, since you get max cdr from these two items already. This means we can spend gold on the magic pen boots, making the rain hurt even more. Also, it's possible to expend gold on defensive boots, which are really good too!

I did a test on practice tool (on PBE), comparing lich bane, black cleaver and mortal reminder. Full build and did E+R+Gunblade+Q against target dummies:

- With The Black Cleaver the full rotation did the most damage, 4664.
- With Lich Bane it was 4659, almost the same.
- With Mortal Reminder the damage was the least amount, 4518 (it doesn't account for healing reduction)

So BC and MR if you want to focus on ulti and damaging multiple champions, but Lich bane seems to give more damage over time for single targets.

Hey, hi again :)!

I ban Zed almost always.

In a situation where I die immediately I buy a defensive item and delay my build, and usually scrap out Rabadon's (as you were thinking), in most games you don't even reach 6th item. In games where you're forced to build defensively you'll won't be the main source of damage probably. Sometimes if you recover later in the game and the enemy team stops focusing you, you can sell the def item.

I won't update my guide until preseason kicks off (it's being reworked), but I've replaced the CDR boots with Sorcerer's Shoes and Lich Bane instead of mortal reminder, she gets really bursty. Although reminder is still good vs tanky teams.

I will test BC and armor boots too and will reply back later.

With Gunblade core, do you think Glacial Augment could be a good pre-season build? While Arcane Comet boosts damage A LOT, Glacial Augment can be used for kiting quite nicely it seems. Thoughts?

Played a game and was not too impressed. Not that it was useless, but the Inspiration tree is generally pretty dull for AP MF, the only good secondary rune is Cosmic insight (5% CDR on everything).

I was actually thinking about it yesterday and can definitely see it working.
I've been trying AP MF on PBE lately and she looks quite strong. Today they've pulled back runes to prepare for 7.21, but after that I'll try Glacial Augment and write you back ;)

The new final build example is literally what I had in mind a few days ago lol. except I thought of lich bane instead of nashor's.

why was LB replaced with nashor's?

also, have you seen the new runes? I feel like there's no runes that fit AD MF ( because she goes caster route and buys lethality ), but I'm not sure what would fit AP MF better. the new runes are killing some off meta stuff, and i fear AP MF will get a lot worse. but hey! maybe they'll buff E, since AD MF can no longer abuse thunderlords.

I felt Lich Bane as somewhat lackluster - nashor's has more CDR + AS and on-hit will give similar damage over time(don't forget about your AD).

Runes are pretty interesting. Here is what I'm thinking will be best for her:
http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/preseason-update/8200-8229?build=21120123

Comet + Scorch + Cheapshot will go amazingly well with her E. Also everyone is losing 9 armor and 12 mr, so early game damage goes up(unless they buff stats).

My only problem is the adaptive damage, you can't get both AP and AD on start... If you start Doran's ring you'll have 0 extra AD - good luck with last hitting. So you'll probably have to start Blade or Longsword and later transition to AP. I think the Manaflow Band rune will help a lot early game. But we have more than a month we'll see what happens.

yeah I tested them both on sandbox mode with full build, the results are :
LB gives more damage on the first shot, while the seccond is weaker. Nashor's first shot is equal to the seccond, weaker than LB's first shot, stronger than the seccond. So I guess, take LB to burst a single squishy faster ( gotta make sure this vayne gets 100-0'ed by me and my team!!!1!1 ), and nashor's for more damage to all enemies?

oh, these will work wonders with AP MF! i'm glad she'll survive the rune changes.

btw, a rioter mentioned on reddit that MF is getting a 8 base AD buff soon!

Hey! What do you think of the new Banshee's Veil and Guardian Angel for your Mage Fortune? Do you think rushing Banshee's Veil against high-cc lanes would be a half-way good idea, and does the AD instead of M.REs make Guardian Angel more appealing for the somewhat hybrid MF playstyle?

GA is ok if you wanna survive and want more AD. Banshee's is good if you face AP burst/AP assassin( Syndra, Fizz, Veigar), but I'm not sure I' would rush it, maybe as a second core item it'll be appropriate.

Hi, I'm a fan of your guide.

Could you record a game to see how you play Miss Fortune AP?

I like to see repetitions to learn, thanks!

I would be lying if I said I'm not at least a little bit skeptical of this build. It looks nice, but I think you would simply be putting out more damage as AD MF. I am digging the lich bane idea tho. It definitely seems like a good item to incorporate into an MF build. However, don't you think that a hybrid MF with hybrid pen runes can be better than both AD and AP?

i just used your guide.
it's good the E does a great damage.
my issue before following your build. that the R was almost useless. i already knew i was doing something wrong.
but now ult is super!
i didn't have the chance to complete the build. because the enemy team was defeated.
but good build overall
