Dr. Mundo Build
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
I have been playing Mundo for a while now and this build seems to work. Of course some changes need to be made against certain team comps but generally this build prevents you from dying while getting many assists and the occasional ks ;). Please keep in mind this is my first build on mobafire and im open to suggestions :D. This build i've posted costs between 11 and 12k gold depending on how many changes you make to it (which is cheap enough for me to build almost any game).
The runes I use are generally DPS runes. I used them because I couldn't afford any tanky runes but these work. Instead of armor pen i'm sure magic pen would help his cleaver and spinny balls of death but the armor pen helps his huge masochism AD boost so i've kept them. The cooldown reduction is for massive cleaver spamming and eventually it lets you ulti heal in about 40 seconds (and if u feel like pissing your team off and getting blue buff it goes down to about 30 seconds). Dodge runes are mainly to help nimbleness and give you that speed boost when you really need it. You can get three health quints if you want but I like that extra armor pen oomf.
Tanky mundo so tanky mastery tree and the nine in offense give you a bit of magic pen so its nice. Ive seen mundo go offensive but for the job your trying to do as a tank I feel defensive is overall more useful.
Mundo's ulti+ghost+cleanse=GG. 9/10 this makes for the perfect escape and if your doing your job as a tank you should be engaging and taking the majority of the damage, which in turn leads to the necessity of a great escape. Other options are flash, exhaust, or ignite. In all honesty, summoners are personal preference for every character. It all depends on your play style.
Yes I know burning agony is a great farm technique but maxing out your cleaver is priority. I max out masochism first to help out more for early game ganks or mid game team fights. If you prefer to have a bit more of a farming advantage then switch up burning agony with masochism, but by level 9 your cleaver should either be maxed or lvl 4 at least.
Last but not least. This is the hardest part of every guide because no single build will work in every situation and people dont seem to understand that. The item build is especially hard for Mundo because there are many possibilities. The items on this build are for a very AD heavy team. I get spirit visage first no matter what because it's effects work amazingly with your ult and passive health regen. Late game I tend to sell my spirit visage for a 2nd Warmogs. Against a caster team, one or two Force of Natures work wonders and a banshees veil is heavenly, especially if you wana piss off an enemy karthus :D. I don't typically build Leviathan because i play an aggressive tank and whether I live or die is primarily up to how much my team feels like helping (we've all been in those damn solo queues before) so stacks on that can be risky. If you have a solid team I say go for it though.
If you get so fed that you have a sure victory, there are some items you can have fun with. Rylai's crystal scepter is great because it's slow effect works with your burning agony so it becomes this icyhot patch that shaq would kill a man for. On top of that, grab a Frozen Mallet and they will be sucked into the agony that is Mundo.
