Should I get black cleaver and tri-force?

Does Darius' Passive bleeding effect count as on-hit?

Not really. It applies with his abilities too. Guinsoos' doesnt apply 2 stacks.

I changed some runes to play on PBE but I loved this build! Great work!

I recently faced a Darius on Top who was more experienced than me. We both had the same summoner spells Flash and Ignite. The only difference was I took the Conqueror Rune page and he went for Predator. What would you rush in this mirror matchup as your first/core items?

Mirror matchups are a bit tricky as it all depends on who is the better player straight up. Your build should be based on whether you're losing or not. If you are losing, your job should be to stop the enemy darius from getting even more fed and if you are winning, your job should be to get as fed as possible. Tabis are a decent defensive buy but stacking health is very helpful if you are losing. In general, buying Trinity force while losing lane is very difficult to do as it is 3.7k gold. Cleaver is a lot more cheap and it is better as a single item powerspike. I mean like, the powerspike from completing Cleaver, is a lot bigger than the powerspike from completing Trinity. So if you manage to keep up in farm, you can complete cleaver and try to steal the lane back before he finishes trinity. Also, you ARE going Conqueror which is the superior rune by far. He basically has no keystone when fighting you and has the inferior domination tree. You shouldn't be losing in fights at all unless you make a mistake.

I didn't lose that lane and match, early it went ointo a kill trade where he got First Blood, but I realized in the loading screen already that I won't win this lnage by going Black Cleaver or Trinity Force so I went straight for Frozen Heart and Tabis which helped a lot! Aftwerwards I realized that Thornmail would have been even better against the opposing Darius, so I rushed at least Bramble West since I only wanted the Grievous Wounds. Besides from Jgl help I won the lane just due to the Frozen Heart and the better rune of course. What I want to say is: After this experience I highly recommend building Frozen Heart or Thornmail in a mirror Matchup. But of course I can't tell from just one game where I had a mirror matchup. Still, even when the opposing darius walked up to me just respawning from base when I overtsayed and only had about 80% HP and 60% mana, I was able to 1v1 him even with him ulting me with 5 stacks and igniting me. He did hit all of his spells, but since he tried to rush BC first while I was able to complete Frozen Heart earlier I was way tankier and therefore able to survive long enough to deal the damage also thanks to the superior rune.

Besides this, I am tbh not really convinced by Trinty Force since it ist very costly and takes quite a lot of time to get it completed. It is indeed a huge powerspike, but it's just the cost that always worries me when I play Darius

There must be something wrong in the New Glacial Darius Build: In the notes to the core tank items you say go either Spirit Visage or Abyssal Mask, but you should go Abyssal Mask if they have ability spammers like Cassio, Ryze, etc. This cant be correct since Adaptive Helmet is the must-go item against ability spammers. Please check it yourself!

Thanks for catching that. It's just a fun build that is more like the old school Darius build that I wanted people to try before the preseason killed it.

Godspeed. Even if you don't main Darius, simply knowing how to play him and how he fits into the meta with match ups and all gives you a nice pocket pick for toplane.

See an html error in your Core Items note in the overview. You are trying to do a < to denote a '<'. Looking over this guide after being out of league for 4 years. Good stuff.

Edit: I just realized the HTML code I wrote '&-l-t-;' got switched for a '<' by the helpful editor, lmao. Guess I need to do some more proofreading as well.

I'm curious why you chose Unflinching instead of Overgrowth in the Resolve rune trees.

Because Darius just LOVES movement speed and HATES hard cc (well, who likes hard cc tbh?). Unflinching along with Mercury's, Sterak's Passive if activated and Legend:Tenacity gives Darius the best hard cc reduction he can get. Due to the fact that Teleport got nerfed (it has longer CD now), Flash with Ignite pairs well with Darius' kit aiming for an early kill to snowball, procing Unflinching and making effectively use of it.

In the example build against AD you say that you shouldnt't get Randuin's Omen if they have crit damage dealers. Rather get yourself a GA, Zz'Rot, Gargoyles or even a Frozen Heart. My obvious question: Why?

I must've wrote it wrong. I meant that like, raubduins is only good against crit adcs, Yasu and trynd. But back when I wrote the bulk of the guide, crit adcs were not the main pick in botlane as you'd mostly go against guys like Lucian, Ezreal, Kaisa and non crit adcs. That's why you wouldn't build randuins all the time. Right now however, it is a better purchase as some Crit adcs are coming back.

I like the fact that you have added so many different rune setups for Darius, he really can be adapted into different power styles with this. Good job, at some point I'd like to try each and every one of them to see what I prefer.

Thanks. The playstyle with which you have the most fun is important as if you are not having fun with the game, you just stress yourself out and get burnt out quickly. Please be sure to read the notes with the runes where I explain what they are for in terms of their purpose in order to understand why you are taking them. This will just lead to you being able to choose and adapt to matchups autonomously. Thanks again for reading my guide ^-^
