Introduction

Kayle is a rather strong and most importantly, very versatile champion in this game.
Technically seen you could play her every single lane/role and it would work out.

In my opinion, she's best at both top and mid lane because of the champions you encounter and because of the great waveclear and high sustain on lane.

Kayle is strongest against melee champions that have to get close to the minions to farm and don't have an insane burst versus Kayle (so she can easily adapt & react when they're engaging).
She's also very strong versus tanks because late-game she has a great damage output and can keep them at a distance easily.

Pros / Cons

Pro's:

- High sustain/survivability due to your heal and ranged stance (E).
- High Single Target Slow.
- High healing.
- Invulnerable/Immortal with your ultimate.
- Scales great and shreds most tanks down.
- Great wave clear.

Con's:

- Useless versus heavy CC.
- Takes a while till the core items are built/bought.
- Relies heavy on items.
- No heavy CC aside from slow.

Item & Build Information

You start with a Doran's Ring in pretty much every situation, the reason for this is because it gives mana regen/hp/ability power and an on-hit bonus which is excactly what Kayle utilizes great and provides you with extra sustain on lane.

The first item you'll rush is Nashor's Tooth, the reason why this is the actual CORE of kayle's kit is because of the 20% CDR and insane Attack Speed/Dmg on basic hit (scales with AP) buff, this is where your entire build is being built around.

Secondary still in the core we build a Guinsoo's Rageblade, again... kayle is all about the basic hits (which you empower with your E ability) and this item again gives such an insane boost to the damage output that it is required to be built rather early.

Now, for boots we have various options...
In general your go-to boots are Berserker's Greaves and most of the time (even against fairly difficult match-ups) this is the best to get.
However, as Kayle you're very vulnerable to CC and therefor Mercury's Treads will be better versus heavy CC comps so you have a higher chance of surviving or popping your ultimate ability.

Wit's End is your lord and savior when your enemies build a lot of magic resist, as you can see it's passive steals magic resist from the target and gives you even more bonus damage on hit... when Lethal Tempo hits you will shred them into pieces with this sweet little blade.

Zhonya's Hourglass this item should be fairly self explainatory, aside from it granting you some armor, AP and CDR it allows you to become invulnerable for a solid 2.5 seconds, this is great when the enemy team focusses you in a teamfight and your ult has been popped to avoid them from getting you, then you can deal great damage again.

Rabadon's Deathcap this little hat amplifies your AP and gives an insane amount of AP, this is a great end-game item and boosts your damage output enormously, simply a must-have in the end-game.

Situational Stuff I'd say is really worth mentioning/highlighting:

Rylai's Crystal Scepter this item can be usefull in your build versus champions with high movement speed or escapes, this because it adds an extra slow over your Q and allows you to really hammer on the enemy champion great and keep them close.

Liandry's Torment this item is a very viable pick on Kayle due to it making you a bit more tanky, giving more AP to scale with your hits and the %hp damage passive and fight duration dmg passive on this item, it allows you to deal an increased amount of damage when fighting for a longer time and burns high hp targets with extra damage per second.

Runes

The build focusses itself around a high damage output in a short duration.
Therefor I've decided to go with the Precision Tree and Sorcery as secondary.

We'll start with the primary tree, Precision.

I've gone with Lethal Tempo rather than Press the Attack because in my opinion it's better to have an insane attack speed in some comps and shred your opponent down by going over the speed limit rather than have bonus damage on 3 hits.

IF you're playing against a heavy CC comp then I'd recommend using [Press The Attack]] instead.

Triumph is a very strong pick because if you're in a teamfight shredding down opponents OR towerdiving and your ult expires... the kill can save your live because of this, in my opinion this is great and the other runes simply didn't provide any bigger advantage.

Legend: Alacrity is just for another increment of Attack Speed, I am personally a big fan of building the champion more AP and relying on the runes to then grant the extra attack speed so your damage output is insanely big.

Coup de Grace is very usefull when 1v1ing champions or when bursting down enemies during a teamfight, this because you already deal a big amount of damage and this amplifies it when the enemy is getting low, so your Triumph pops and you can continue beating them up.

Now, for the secondary tree we have Sorcery.

I've decided to use Transcendence for the simple reason that you rely on your E and Ultimate to be up as much as possible, therefor this increment in CDR late-game is very usefull and if your build causes you to excess in CDR your damage will just increase.

Aside from that I decided to use Manaflow Band as I personally enjoy playing aggressive on Kayle and this helps you out in the early game with your sustain/mana, feel free to change this to anything as personal preference but in my opinion this is the best.

Spells

Reckoning - This skill deals a small bit of damage and slows (movement impairing) your enemy.
This is very usefull to either keep them at a distance or to keep them close to you when you're winning and they're trying to flee.

Just use this in combination with your E (Righteous Fury) to deal great damage to opponents as you can keep them in your range or on a distance whilst hitting them.

Divine Blessing - Heals and increases the movement speed of an allied champion (or yourself).

This can be used in various occasions, either to escape/engage or even to help an ally survive.
It procs with your Ability Power so the more AP you have the better this skill is, you can also use this to remain close to your enemy or flee when dueling.

Righteous Fury - This (together with the ultimate) is the CORE of Kayle's kit, this is your entire damage output.

Righteous Fury grants a passive dmg bonus per hit based on your Ability Power, besides that it even increases your range by 400 which allows you to become a short range ranged champion for a short while.
When activated it increases the range but on top of that it also amplifies your damage even more scaling on your Ability Power again.
Using Righteous Fury also causes your ability to have an AoE damage effect, this does not affect turrets but causes Kayle to have an insane waveclear.

Intervention - Together with your E this is insanely important, when fighting you want to have this up at all costs... this is because Kayle is a rather squishy champion and can be bursted down easily.
If you have intervention up the enemy team would make a mistake focussing you if they don't have sufficient CC and damage to instantly burst you down, this allows you to keep blasting them with your damage.

It grants immunity to either you or an ally for several seconds (2/2.5/3) and can be used to either protect yourself when being attacked or to save out an important team member (mid/adc) from death.

Summoner Spells

Flash, the summoner spell that saved your *** more than once if you played League of Legends before.
The reason why you use Flash and not Ghost or Heal is because flash allows you to instantly blink out of risky situations allowing you to continue your damage output.
Ghost etc. aren't necesarry because your W (Divine Blessing) boosts your movement speed and your Q (Reckoning) already slows the opponent so your abilities are sufficient here.

You use Flash on both Top and Mid, as it's usefull in both situations.

Teleport on the other hand, is a summoner spell you use for Top with the main purpose of applying pressure to the top lane, it also allows you to participate in teamfights and being able to defend/push at any given moment by teleporting to the top lane again.

Ignite is being used on the mid lane in this build, the reason why is because you want to get as fed as possible at mid lane and have a good dueling potential, ignite helps a lot with this and teleport is in my opinion not really recommended here because the teamfights will most of the time organize near mid.

Playstyle (Laning/Fighting)

Before you read this chapter I'd simply like to make a quick note..
Despite everything in here being relatively good to do/good advice, I do recommend making the champion "your own" by adding a bit of your own idea's/playstyle to it... otherwise it'll end up being a generic fight for your opponent.

First, we start of with the Early Game

Kayle is here rather weak, this is because Kayle scales hard on the late game and is heavily reliant on his core items.
You want to farm as much as you can possibly can, try not to fight unless enemies are already poked and quite low, focus on not dying or giving your enemies big advantages that could prevent you from scaling well.

Next up Mid Game as we call it

We consider this the area where your first core item Nashor's Tooth has been built and where you are able to stand your ground versus an opponent as Kayle.
Due to the high cooldown on Nashor's Tooth and good following of the Skill Sequence I put in on the top of the guide, you should now have a PERMANENT range (because your E will be up before it expires) and you can now roam/do objectives/fight or even heavily push mid (Watch out for heavy CC junglers/top roamers though).

And the place we as Kayle players love the most the Late Game

Because Kayle is so versatile you also have a lot of options late.
Splitpushing is a great option due to your high mobility and waveclear plus your ability to burst down enemy champions and invulnerability due to your ultimate.

Aside from that, you can force a teamfight (in the case your team has an advantage) and try to push an inhib or get an objective such as baron/elder drake to then end the game with it.

Now, last but not least... Teamfighting

I personally always prefer, to stay close to our most fed ally that has the highest damage output of our team... this way I can save him where necesarry and heal him so our damage output remains high.
If, in this case I would be the one with the highest damage I would simply burst down whoever is close to me OR burst their damage dealers so we win the teamfight.

Conclusion

Kayle is not only a versatile champion, but it's a very strong pick that scales heavy into the late game.

About The Author

My name is Gaetor, I've played League of Legends starting season 2 up to and including season 8, currently 19 years old and experience in MOBA for around 9 years.

Games I played in the genre are Dota2/Smite/League of Legends/Heroes of Newerth/Warcraft 3 (custom maps)/Starcraft 2 (custom maps).

Dota2 gave me great insights into the MOBA play style and how to manipulate your opponent and adapt based on your opponents decisions in the game to increase your advantage that way.
However, as a younger lad Dota2 got boring after several months/a few years due to it being a more low-pace (action/combat wise) game and not as flashy and engaging as League of Legends.
After playing League for a while I decided to stick with it and here I am.

I've peaked Diamond 2 in season 3 and never went past that, sadly enough the account got banned because I enjoyed messing around with button counters/injecting custom overlays & skins/injecting item builds into the game when it was disabled and riot decided that this was incorporating third party content to my advantage and decided to permanently suspend my account (After I didn't reinstall after a first warning... we all make stupid mistakes)

I then took a 2 season break and decided to return to League of Legends, I then made this account earlier this season.. got both flex queues up to gold and will be pushing up my solo queue next whilst streaming.

I enjoy making guides because I hope it teaches people something that they didn't know before or gives them new insights on how to play champions and what to take in account when making certain decisions.

I've started coaching some teams aswell and stream under the name JustGaetor on Twitch.
