I always enjoyed playing Gangplank and with the recent buffs he has become quite popular. Sadly most of the time I see pirates stacking Avarice Blades...

This build focusses on high sustained damage output while not being squishy as hell. A more tanky approach works better with Gangplank. However, it cannot be described as "tanky DPS" by any means.

Skill sequence:

Cannon Barrage > Parrrley > Raise Morale > Remove Scurvy
Don't forget to put one point in Remove Scurvy at level 4 (level 2 if you face two stun champs in your lane).

Last-hitting:

It is very important to last-hit as many minions as possible with your Parrrley which yields extra gold. You can also harass with it, but remember that this drains your mana a lot early game. At least 75% of your Parrrley shots should kill minions.

How to use Raise Morale's active:

• Use it before you attack (exception: Parrrley)
• Use it in teamfights to buff your entire team.
• Use it to escape.
• Use it when you and your teammate are trying to escape from Nidalee with 50hp.

How to use Cannon Barrage:

• Save yourself and your teammates.
• Save your towers.
• Cut off the way of escaping enemies.
• Use it to prepare ganks.
• You shouldn't have problems 1vs1, but **** happens. With your ulti you can turn the tide.
• In teamfights, place it where the slow and dmg is most needed. Try to hit as many enemies as possible.
• Place it on low-health champs (100hp) for a surprise kill.

Executioner's Calling
In my opinion, must-have for GP. It gives you everything you want: solid amounts of crit chance and lifesteal (18% lifesteal gives you lots of laning power and you're able to jungle), a passive that synergizes with GP's passive and an active that helps a lot against heal champs like Warwick or Mundo. Also very cheap.

Ninja Tabi
Synergizes well with your armor runes, masteries and Atma's.

Atma's Impaler
Boosts your overall damage output (18% crit chance + 20-25 attack damage) while also providing armor for added survivabilty.

Infinity Edge
Insane damage increase.

Last Whisper
Remember to buy this when you need it. In some cases this could mean before IE, sometimes you should buy it as last item. Know your enemies' resistences.

Trinity Force
Great combination of stats, although you might replace this with Guardian's Angel, Force of Nature or Banshee's Veil if you feel you're dealing enough dmg.

Negatron Cloak (situational)
Buy it somewhere inbetween if you're facing a caster heavy team!

Greater Mark of Desolation - armor pen is more viable than crit chance, even when parrrley crits
Greater Seal of Armor - synergizes well with item build
Greater Glyph of Scaling Mana Regeneration - allows you to stay in lane longer
Greater Quintessence of Desolation - same as marks
