Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Exhaust - Body slam is ofcourse a build in slow, but when you're blocked by something exhaust will be your solution. I like playing with exhaust because it gives me certain kills (which ofcourse I will give to the dps/caster when they are near).
Ghost - Its ghost, easy to get away, easy to keep up with other ghosts. Not much to say about this.
Ignite - This is an option, but as a tank you are not supposed to take the kills with ignite. You are supposed to assist your dps or caster with the kill. Take this if you feel happy with it.
Teleport - Only take this when you are forced to go 2v1 (Gragas is a VERY good 2v1 champion), Once you got chalice of harmony you do not have to go back AT ALL. Drunken rage and chalice give enough mana regen to hold the lane. And the passive makes sure of the hp.
Flash - If you expect to fail, take this "Get out of fail free"-card.
Fortify - Again, if you expect your team to lose, or if you expect that youre gonna be getting backdoored. Take this skill
Defensive masteries are obiously the good choice if you want to tank. Add the point to improved fortify if you have fortify. I think this tree speaks for itself: Armor, magic resist, dodge, health regen, extra hp. No need to be discussing this
Utility masteries is the way I like to go. It will give me extra XP, extra mana regen and extra speed. No need to discuss this either.
I like to take armor runes in red, they give the most armor than any other rune. It is very good for tanking. If you like to do some damage while tanking, take Magic Pen in here.
HP @ 18 is a very good way to go in yellow, mana regen works as well but Imo hp @ 18 wins this.
Magic resist at 18 is the best opportunity for blue, this is a very good choice for almost any kind of champion. Taking something else in blue is no option for a tank.
This itembuild is build in the order I buy it.
Usually it goes like this:
When you start off: Dorans Shield + Pot
First time back: Chalice of Harmony + Boots of Speed
Second time back: Most parts of aegis (no upgraded boots yet)
Around here, the teamfights start. When you go back now, make sure you have enough money for Aegis AND boots upgrade.
The rest of this itembuild is all situational. And I have 7 items in case the game takes AGES and you have to sell your dorans shield.
p.s. Make sure you dont ruin other people's AOE ultimates by throwing everyone out. And before every teamfight, make sure you used Drunken Rage to reduce way too much damage. Imo you should find out yourself how you like to play this guy, this build is just a general sketch on what you should get. Not on what you should do.
